[Bug 1149495] Re: Dash home application icon is different from app-lens icon

2014-12-17 Thread lenooh
The bug is still present in 14.10.
Why was this marked as opinion? When the dash icons were updated in 13.04,
this one was obviously overseen.
As Ali Najafi wrote, the fix seems to be simple.

[Bug 1294844] [NEW] [ubuntu 14.04] bad launcher shadow

2014-03-19 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

In ubuntu 14.04 the window shadow size seems to have been increased.
This also affects the shadow of the launcher popups, but it looks wrong
(see attached image, shadow of the launcher popup). It looks like the
shadow has a cutoff distance and does not fade out smoothly. Also the
edges are rough.

In the image I have also added a normal window with its shadow for
comparison (which is OK).

Public bug reported:

When there is only one icon in the nautilus breadcrumbs, the wrong icon is used.
The icon does not have rounded left edges - this is the icon used, when there

is tha same for other paths as well.

[Bug 1056241] [NEW] controls in sound output settings are aligned to the output name instead of being fixed length

2012-09-25 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

In Sound Settings - Output, the sliders (Balance, Fade, ...) and the
Test Sound button seem to be aligned to the output name. As a
consequence, when I change the output, the controls also move.

I am attaching a screenshot, where I have clicked on three different
outputs. All the controls are aligned to the lenght of the output name,
thus moving depending on which output is selected.

The contols should not move when changing the output. They should be
fixed length.

[Bug 985148] [NEW] print wizard installs wrong printer (HP DesignJet 500, instead of HP Color LaserJet 500)

2012-04-18 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

I have a HP Color LaserJet 500 color M551 printer connected to the network.
When I use the printing wizard to add a new printer, it defaults to HP
DesignJet 500. So by just pressing the Forward button, you end up with the
wrong printer installed. It does not work with this driver.

To make it even worse, the actual printer is not in the list of
printers.

The printer works with the HPLIP driver, however the webpage,
confusingly, warns you that you do not need HPLIP, because HP Color
LaserJet 500 color M551 is already provided by your distribution
(Ubuntu 12.04).

[Bug 947425] Re: background color of the background options screen is wrong (color mismatch)

2012-03-13 Thread lenooh
I did some further research.

1. this bug is not present in precise alpha 1 (but the UI has changed since)
2. the color around the screen is always the same as the color around the tabs.
Changing to a theme that has both of these colors same fixes this bug (like
the provided high contrast theme).
3. I browsed the code of gnome-control-center in launchpad, and am quite
confident that the primary-color (pcolor) and secondary-color (scolor) got
mixed up. The code is in the file:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/precise/gnome-control-center/precise/view/head:/panels/background/cc-background-panel.c

[Bug 950226] [NEW] Libreoffice Writer 3.5 has empty space (gap) below page

2012-03-08 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

Libreoffice writer (version 3.5) has some empty space (gap) below the
page. This is where the left-right slider was in previous versions of
libreoffice.

I have attached a screenshot of the problem and also measured the gap in pixels.
If I move the zoom slider a little bit, the empty space disapears. This is
demonstrated at the bottom of the screenshot.
If the page is zoomed a lot, or if the window is small, a slider appears
instead of the empty space.

[Bug 947425] [NEW] background color of the background options screen is wrong (color mismatch)

2012-03-05 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

The background around the screen in the Appeatance-Look-Background is
of the wrong color. It is a different shade of gray (#F2F1F0) than the
gray everywhere else (#F7F6F6).

See attached screenshot. At the bottom of the screenshot is a high
contrast version of the same window, on which it is more obvious what is
wrong.

Using version 12.04 with all updates.

[Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.

2012-02-29 Thread lenooh
Slightly offtopic, but in comment #80 I pointed out that the window title does
not contain the filename of the opened document.
Since this problem occurs for all windows, not just libreoffice, I created a
new bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bamf/+bug/926055
but it does not seem to be getting any attention.
If you are affected by this bug (most probably), please mark that the bug
affects you. Thanks ;-)

I do not know about oneiric, but in precise the bug is still (or again?)
present. It's just like it was in the beginning. Disabling the logo
makes no difference.

All updates applied, -proposed also.

[Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.

2012-01-24 Thread lenooh
I just did some more tests on precise with all updates, and there are
still two issues:

1. if you open a document from a file manager, it gets a new white icon,
instead of the corresponding writer/calc/impress icon.

steps to reproduce:
 - open file manager
 - doubleclick any libreoffice file (.odt, .ods, .odp)
 - observe the panel creating a new white icon instead of creating a triangle
to the corresponding icon

2. if you open writer/calc/impress and select File-New-(what ever) there will
always be a triangle added to the current icon, instead of creating a new
corresponding icon.

steps to reproduce:
 - open writer
 - click File-New-Spreadsheet
 - observe the panel not create an Impress icon, but just adding a triangle to
the Writer icon

Hope this helps,
BR

There is still a problem with the latest(?) version (0.2.104+bzr423ubuntu0+392):
although the bug described is fixed (or seems to be), the name of the opened

[Bug 880293] Re: LibreOffice Writer do not shows up in UNITY Launcher

2011-11-16 Thread lenooh
As I already wrote in my bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/884683) this only happens with .odt
files. No problems with other file types. Also, the bug is present in
Unity 2D as well, so it seems it is not a compiz bug.

The bug is not present in Ubuntu 11.04, so it could be caused by the
transition to LO 3.4 or Gnome 3.2.

[Bug 884683] [NEW] sidebar and panel (global menu bar) do not work for libreoffce writer when opening .odt file

2011-11-01 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

When you open any odt file (can be empty) with libreoffice writer, the
sidebar and panel do not do anything: there is no corresponding triangle
next to the icon, and there are no close, minimize, maximize buttons. If
I install lo-menubar package, there is no menu in the panel. Other file
types (although I did not test all) work OK.

I am attaching a screenshot. You can see the lo-writer icon on the
sidebar (which is set to be there) with no triangle, and the panel
(global menu bar) shows the desktop (nautilus) menus (sorry its not in
english). If I maximize the lo-writer window, there are no close,
minimize or maximize buttons, and the menu still belongs to the desktop.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open lo-writer
2. save the (empty or with some content) document as odt
3. open the just created file by double-clicking it
4. observe the sidebar and panel not working

[Bug 883923] Re: maximized windows are restored under the top panel

2011-11-01 Thread lenooh
Some more info on the bug.

I created a new user and the bug is *not* presents. So it seems to be
caused by a certain setting.

Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the bug. I tried setting the
same settings (in compiz config settings manager), but it did not
reproduce the behaviour. So my question now is, where are these settings
stored (which file)? I want to reset them, to get rid of this annoyance.

[Bug 883923] [NEW] maximized windows are restored under the top panel

2011-10-30 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

Using ubuntu 11.10 with all updates.

If I maximize any window, then minimize it, then restore it back, it
gets placed under the top panel. Only maximized windows are not restored
in its previous positions.

Window size does not change, so at the bottom of the screen is a gap
that seems to be the same height as the top panel.

This seems to be a similar problem as bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/723760 but I am
not sure, since in my case enabling or disabling the grid plugin does
not make a difference.

I am attaching a screenshot of how a window is restored.

I agree with Christian and Patrick.

Please do something to fix the problem. This is a basic feature, much
needed, with numerous patches already contributed.

It seems to me that the maintainer of nautilus is just like the
maintainer of glibc, Ulrich Drepper, not willing to accept any patches.
Maybe he should be replaced?

I agree. It's a very confusing and annoying UI. It took me quite a while

I had the same problem, but then I noticed that it's a UI inconsistency

else.

[Bug 154943] Re: sound volume keyboard shortcut keys don't change sound volume

It's a KMilo issue (the popup that appears when you press volume related keys).

this:

[Bug 163205] Re: kubuntu: keyboard volume key always affects the main channel

2008-01-28 Thread lenooh

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149487

It seems to be a KMilo issue (the popup that appears when you press
volume related keys), that keeps coming back with newer versions of KDE.
KMilo does not have an active maintainer, so it may not be fixed. But
there are patches in the bug comments.

[Bug 154943] Re: sound volume keyboard shortcut keys don't change sound volume

2007-11-16 Thread lenooh
I have a similar problem.
Since when I upgraded to kubuntu 7.10, my keyboard volume key only controls the
main channel. The problem is, that the main channel does not affect my rear

PCM as the main channel. Now this does not work anymore.

[Bug 163205] kubuntu: keyboard volume key always affects the main channel

2007-11-16 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmix

My keyboard volume key always controls the main channel, which affects
only my front speakers (I have a 4.1 setup).

The problem is similar to these:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/34615
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-volume-manager/+bug/46007
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/control-center/+bug/50388
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/154943
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdemultimedia/+bug/106926

but I am opening a new bug, because in kubuntu pre-7.10 I could solve it
by right clicking on kmix icon and setting PCM as my master channel. In
kubuntu 7.10, this does not work anymore. My keyboard volume key always
controls the main channel, which affects only my front speakers. It's
interesting though, that the mute key IS controlling the PCM channel (or
whatever I set as the master channel). So it looks like a bug in kmix in
the version of KDE shipped with kubuntu 7.10.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konqueror

In Konqueror it is not possible to make a folder if there is already a
file with the same name.

example: a have a text file named settings, and if i rightclick and
select create new folder, write settings as the name of it, it says
file already exists.

steps to reproduce:
1. open konqueror
2. rightclick and select create new - text file. name it file
3. rightclick again and select create new - folder. name it file

[Bug 51043] Re: rightclick - paste missing in contextmenu when pointer is above files/folders

2007-05-11 Thread lenooh
I have read the comments at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94618 and it's really a shame
that they still haven't fixed that bug in all those years! (the bug was
first reported in 2002)

I really don't know why are they complicating it so much.
Like I said, the easiest solution in my opinion would be if right-mouse
clicking would not select files. Left-mouse click selects file, right-mouse
click brings up the context menu. If no file was selected before
right-clicking, then the context menu is directory related, otherwise it is
file related.

[Bug 51043] Re: rightclick - paste missing in contextmenu when pointer is above files/folders

The problem is that the menu that shows up when right clicking is that
it's related to the selected file and not the directory. So not only
paste is missing, but all other options too - create new directory,
zoom, etc...

To fix this, right clicking should not select files.

So it looks like xmms has a memory leak.

I think I know now how to reproduce the bug:

2. play a radio stream for the whole day,
3. keep an eye on xmms memory usage.

[Bug 93508] [feisty] artifact in bootsplash screen

2007-03-18 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash-theme-ubuntu

When booting Ubuntu, the bootsplash screen has a vertical line about a
pixel away from the progress bar.

The line appears after the indicator touches the left border for the
second time: the indicator first goes right to the end, then goes left
and when it starts going right again the line appears (and stays there).

** Affects: usplash-theme-ubuntu (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 93504] Re: can't type in firefox after alt-screen copy

you don't have to press alt + prt scr to make a screenshot. prt scr
should be enough.

[Bug 87502] [feisty] inconsistent keyboard icons

2007-02-24 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Feisty Herd 4 (i didn't try previous herd versions) the two
keyboard icons in the new control center are different.

The one in category Personal under Keyboard accessibility looks old and
ugly.
Then in category Hardware under Keyboard there is a cool looking icon (from
tangerine icon set I guess).

I think it makes no sense using different icons for the same thing,
especially when one is from an older icon theme (and very ugly).

[Bug 87502] Re: [feisty] inconsistent keyboard icons

2007-02-24 Thread lenooh
I am not saying it has to have an identical icon, but it should be from
the same icon theme. Because the icon under keyboard accessibility
does not look anything like the tangerine icons...

[Bug 80263] Re: system becomes unresponsive over the day

2007-02-14 Thread lenooh
Here's some more info:

$ free
 total used free sharedbuffers
cached
Mem:506480 499220 7260 0 1648 65300
-/+ buffers/cache: 432272 74208
Swap: 1775172 4993281275844
$

Notice the swap amount being used.
I don't know what exactly is in that swap, but judging by the
application/desktop responsiveness I would say that it holds all the stuff I am
currently working with. Maybe that explains the intensive CPU usage. The
computer has to constantly swap (or trash) when I switch between applications.

At the time free was measured, top displayed xmms using 38% of memory
and firefox 11%, the rest was below 5%.

Maybe it's xmms' fault after all? Or maybe a kernel misconfiguration?

[Bug 80263] Re: system becomes unresponsive over the day

2007-02-02 Thread lenooh
I've managed to make a ps aux and a top when this was happening. I
don't see anything suspicious, no process with high cpu usage, but
superkaramba showed 100% cpu usage.

I had to log out and back in to get the computer working normally again.

[Bug 80263] Re: system becomes unresponsive over the day

2007-02-02 Thread lenooh
You can see in the above attachment that xmms is using over 65% of
memory. Usually it uses below 2%. But I wouldn't blame xmms at this
point, because it happens with other apps too.

[Bug 80263] Re: system becomes unresponsive over the day

2007-01-18 Thread lenooh
I found another way to reproduce this bug:
Open the attached .pdf file, and *try* to zoom into 300%
(I use kdpf, but I guess it can be any program).

When going over 200%, the mouse starts lagging, zooming further stops
xmms from playing music, and the system becomes completely unresponsive.

This happens with any kind of file or any operation that is CPU
intensive. So it seems to me, as a process priority issue maybe...

For comparison: on similar hardware (athlon 1.9 GHz, 512MB, 1GB swap)
and with openSUSE 10.1, this does not happen.

[Bug 80263] system becomes unresponsive over the day

2007-01-17 Thread lenooh
Public bug reported:

There's a similar bug at:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/34822
but it was rejected.

Computer: Dell optiplex gx620 (P4 3.2 GHz, 512 MB, 1.5GB swap)
Desktop: KDE 3.5.5

On Kubuntu Edgy Eft (kernel 2.6.17-10-386), the system becomes (very)
unresponsive after using it for a couple of hours. It's so bad that I
can't even move the mouse (but the music still plays).

It happens for example at the end of the day, when I try to close xmms
which has been running all the time (~8 hours). It happens also when I
try to reopen an application that has been just sitting and not doing
much (like thunderbird or some documents in openoffice).

It seems as if the kernel has problems loading applications from swap
back to the memory. Superkaramba widgets show me the CPU usage at 100%,
but top or ps -aux don't show any particular process using the CPU
so intensively. After waiting for about 2 or 3 minutes, the CPU usage
cools down, and I can use the system almost normally - the CPU is at
~2%, but jumps up for any action, even right-clicking on the desktop.
Logging out, and back in puts things back to normal (I guess the swap
and memory get flushed or something).

The problem is reproducable since it happens every day. I guess the
procedure would be to open a couple of applications (thunderbird,
firefox, inkscape, amarok, konqueror, konsole and a few spreadsheet and
word documents with openoffice) and surf the web for a couple of hours
or days and then try to use any of the applications that have been lying
around.
