[Bug 1967784] [NEW] After install reboot was unsuccessful with dark screen.
Public bug reported: Installation of 21.10 beta 4-2-2022 went well. Both screens were normal and active. Reboot did not produce a screen to login, they were both dark following the DELL post screen. I apologize if this is not relevant to this blocking bug. I am trying to help a friend. Machine is dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04 Has Extended Partition where Ubuntu went into Parition 5. Machine worked fine with 18.04. Tried upgrade offered to Ubuntu 19,04 which failed and won't no longer boots to Ubuntu selection from GRUB but Windows still boots. [Bug 1612010] [NEW] Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen
Public bug reported: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen (saw it via Bug # 1292041 now closed) Ctrl=Alt+L or Super+L shortcut works and blanks the screen requiring me to type my password again to activate session. However my System-Settings -> Brightness & Lock is set to: Turn screen off when inactive for: 30 minutes Lock: OFF Lock screen after: Screen turns off (is grayed out) Require my password when waking from suspend (unchecked and grayed out) I have dual monitors. Both are Samsung and this feature is highly intermittent, meaning sometimes it works and often it doesn't. For example it hasn't worked for days but I changed the System-Settings from 30-minutes to 1-min. and it started working without a reboot. Is it possible that a kernel update changes some value that alters the setting? Then when I change the time in the window it repopulates a value? I am on Ubuntu 16.04.1 but I have seen this issue for years now. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612010 Title: Lockscreen doesn't turn off the screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1612010/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 791506] Re: Using an external USB microphone.
This bug is still happening in both 12.04 and 12.10. Simple to reproduce. Use laptop with analogue built in Microphone. Plug in a USB Microphone and switch to it. When rebooting Ubuntu the analogue microphone is re-activated and NOT the last Microphone used which was the USB Microphone. In addition going to Sound Settings and clicking on Input will cause the Microphone to fall off the USB Microphone and onto the built in Analogue Microphone forcing the user to then reselect the USB Microphone. [Bug 1198497] [NEW] Installation fails when fdisk doesn't have enough spare slots
Public bug reported: Multiple times now Ubuntu installation fails without any information when the fdisk table is full. I.E. no spare slots to create an extended partition. This has happened on multiple HP machines with WIndows 7 pre-loaded where a restore partition is present along with the normal NTFS for Windows 7 and another partition from the factory. The issue I am concerned about is that all versions of Ubuntu through 13.04 just hang and the user is left wondering what happened. I would like to see a proper check made for no fdisk partition available and a coherent message put up on the screen telling the user what has happened. Perhaps they need to install a second hard drive. In my case I used gpart to remove the restore partion since I had backup drives and then the installation went well. [Bug 1015732] [NEW] Double entry for Skype in Software Center not seen in Synaptic
Public bug reported: I am noticing that the Software Center has two entries on my system for Skype. They are both identical although different wording. Mine says: Skype (followed by stars (502)) skype (Notice the lowercase 's' in Skype. Then below is another instance that reads: Skype (followed by stars (502)) Skype Internet Telephony Both are shown as installed although only one Skype has been installed. Skype claims this is a bug in the SoftWare Center but so far I can't figure out where the entries really are and what to do about. If I delete one of these then Skype is gone and I am convinced by clicking on More Info that they are the same version of SKype. Now what I have determined is that this only happens when Ubuntu 12.04 was not freshly installed but was done via the upgrade method over the Internet. If one does a fresh install then the Software Center does not have the duplication. Does anyone else see this or have an idea how I can clean it up? I would prefer to get responses from people who have also seen this and have found a solution rather than rampant speculation. [Bug 891613] Re: Skype Icon shows twice while seaching for it at software-center
I did some testing and now have some new insight for the lucky person that might help out with this issue. If I do a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 and then bring up the Software Center it shows Skype as something I can click on. If I install Skype that way two bad things happen. 1) I get the now discontinued version of Skype instead of the new one released recently. 2) I get the double entries being discussed here once the older Skype is installed in this manor. Once I take this path even if I remove the older version and use the method described below I always get double entries. I think the older version which was public was skype-2.2.0.2.28 However, If I download from Skype the now shipping version of skype_precise_4.0.0.7-1_amd64.deb or the 32-bit version if that is what is needed and double click on it. I could easily be mis-remembering but after doing an upgrade from 10.04 - 10.10 everything worked fine. This system is an I5 64-bit installation and it has Ugh, windows 7 as a bootable partition. I never boot into Windows 7 but a relative needed something done from Windows 7 so I did allowed it to get the latest updates. After that I could no longer boot into Ubuntu or Windows 7 as Windows 7 had rewritten the MBR. To fix this I followed the following article. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows Which told me to do: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/0d104aff-ec8c-44c8-b811-92b993823444 /dev/sda Where I replaced the hex numbers with mine. This allowed me to see grub2 menus and select Ubuntu again. Re: [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
The problem is still here Lucid - Lucid. The only way it works is if all screen enhancements, i.e. Compiz is turned off. No refresh happens if any of the special Compiz features are deployed. [Bug 378918] [NEW] SAMSUNG SyncMaster 930B not recognized using Nvidia GeForce 6200
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv NVIDIA config doesn't detect my Samsung SyncMaster 930B LCD monitor. It comes up as unknown as a CRT. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 graphics adapter card. lspci | grep -i nvidia returns: 1:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44A [GeForce 6200] (rev a1) lspci -n returns: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0221 (rev a1) I am not 100% sure but I think I remember Ubuntu 8.10 did detect this monitor ok. SUSE 11.0 and 11.1 does detect the monitor. xrandr returns: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 50.0* 800x60051.0 52.0 53.0 680x38454.0 55.0 640x48056.0 576x43257.0 512x38458.0 400x30059.0 60.0 61.0 320x24062.0 Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv 1:2.1.12-1ubuntu5 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.28-11-generic (bui...@palmer) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-nv Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- SAMSUNG SyncMaster 930B not recognized using Nvidia GeForce 6200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 366535] [NEW] Kubuntu registers itself in /boot/grub/menu.lst as Ubuntu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub-choose-default I installed Ubuntu first and then Kubuntu as a dual boot on a 160-GB harddrive. All went well. The only problem is that Kubuntu registers itself in /boot/grub/menu.lst as Ubuntu so I have two Ubuntu's and I can't determine which is which without actually booting them. This is trivial I realize since anyone that knows how can edit menu.lst but none the less it makes it confusing. ** Affects: grub-choose-default (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu registers itself in /boot/grub/menu.lst as Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
