[Bug 1800196] Re: spice-vdagent[1345]: Cannot access vdagent virtio channel /dev/virtio-ports/com.redhat.spice.0

2019-10-17 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
Thanks Yas

Your suggestion reiterated here worked for me!

Basically adding the line:
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false

To the files:
/etc/xdg/autostart/spice-vdagent.desktop
/usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/spice-vdagent.desktop

Then stop and disable the service:
$ sudo systemctl stop spice-vdagentd
$ sudo systemctl disable spice-vdagentd

Cheers, Mark

And to help you Fix these ISSUES for not me but ALL Ubuntu enthusiasts,
especially for newbies, as these workarounds are really only for those like
me who try very hard to solve problems!

Ubuntu will never get to mainstream unless it is (IDIOT Proof)

So here is my workaround which INDEED, suggests a bigger problem (I believe)

Hibernate/Suspend

 -
- However, if I manually disable the audio output output "sudo
tee /proc/acpi/nvhda <<< OFF" I'm then able to get it to sleep.
I then have to turn it on again on resume with "sudo tee
/proc/acpi/nvhda <<< ON

   -

   -
  -
 - $ sudo tee /proc/acpi/nvhda <<< OFF (*before*
 Hibernation/Suspend or Sleep)

 - $ sudo tee /proc/acpi/nvhda <<< ON (*After* Resume)

[Bug 1800118] [NEW] [OMEN X by HP Laptop 17-ap0xx, Nvidia GPU 83 HDMI/DP, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem

2018-10-26 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Below is a Cut and paste of a recent Ubuntu Forum Page where I posted the issues
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2404566
Note that though it says "Solved" it is just workarounds of Bigger ACPI Issues!

ubuntu 18.10

OK,

This is a new thread, and I will make it HUGE!
Edit Solution/ Work Around for the "2/" Problem
see Post # 4, Thanks PeterSaints

Ubuntu, Please Listen!

Nvidia, HDA WOES in the Title ... HDA stands for High Definition Audio, or HDMI
Audio, or Surround Sound 5.1-7.1 etc. ...
NVHDA stands for Nvidia HDA. Just for anyone who does not know the Jargon!

What does Work ... (and I will post ALL my Notes and Links for others below!)
1/ Everything AFTER STUPIDLY!, I need to install a Kernel PATCH! and
2/ A STUPIDLY Necessary Restart after ANY Hibernation or Suspend!

First my System, and most importantly is it is a NEW Cutting Edge Hp Omen X
Laptop with a Nvidia GTX 1080m GPU, and the latest Linux 3.18 Kernel!
-Computer-
Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7820HK CPU @ 2.90GHz
Memory : 16245MB (3330MB used)
Machine Type: Notebook
Operating System: Ubuntu 18.10
-Display-
Resolution : 1920x1080 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : GeForce GTX 1080/PCIe/SSE2
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation

-Audio Devices-
Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
-Input Devices-

Video Bus
ST LIS3LV02DL Accelerometer
HDA Intel PCH Mic
HDA Intel PCH Mic
HDA Intel PCH Headphone
HP WMI hotkeys
HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm:3
HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm:7
HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm:8
So the LATEST 2 Problems I am looking for a SOLUTION that would indeed help
THOUSANDS and/or MILLIONS of people Now and/or in the near future!
1/ Why SHOULD I need to apply a PATCH to a YEAR old KNOWN problem!
and MORE IMPORTANTLY!

2/ Why is the fixed Patch System NOT working after a Suspend or Hibernation
(Yes I am reiterating my issue once again!)
After EITHER a Suspend or Hibernation, the HDA Sound is EITHER,
1/ Not VISIBLE AGAIN! ANYWHERE! Trust me, or
2/ Visible but in a Dysfunctional State, ... Showing 3 version of the NVHDA
0,1&2 ...
and NONE of the 3 (three) WORK! to be clear NO SOUND AT ALL! when testing them.

So I will leave it here, and to show my continued Good Faith and Obvious
Continued Support For Ubuntu, below are ALL my Solutions to Date!

1st Solution -
Install the patch to get the INVISIBLE and/or Unloaded HDA Visible and/or Loaded
∘ I can confirm that kernel module, posted by
‣ Maik Freudenberg (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75985#c27),
• Kernel module to toggle audio function
∘ is working fine on my system. Thank you for the fix. The HDMI audio device
now works as it should (now detected).
∘ The steps I did to enable HDMI audio device:
• 1. Download and extract the file nvhda.tar.xz. (from above link)
• 2. Run these commands in Terminal, in the location of the extracted folder
Code:
• $ make
• $ sudo make install
• $ echo nvhda | sudo tee -a /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
• $ echo "options nvhda load_state=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/nvhda.conf
• $ sudo update-initramfs -u
‣ 3. Reboot.
## SOLVED ## ###

2nd Solution
Hibernation/Suspend Working (Not HDA Sound of Course)

Troubleshooting
‣ Prerequisites - does your kernel support suspend-to-disk?
• Kernel supports whatever is listed in /sys/power/state, so:
Code:
cat /sys/power/state
∘ Allowed (to my knowledge) entries there include: mem, standby, freeze, disk.
Explanation:
‣ mem - has several meanings, which one exactly on your system you'll find out
via cat /sys/power/mem_sleep. I have: s2idle [deep]
‣ standby - Power-On Suspend (if supported)
‣ freeze - Suspend To Idle (STI)
‣ disk - Hibernate - Suspend To Disk (STD), This - you want.
∘ mine says : freeze mem disk - PERFECT!

• Then we need to check
Code:
$ cat /sys/power/disk
‣ If (good) shows ...
‣ [platform] shutdown reboot suspend test_resume

• if : (Bad)
• [disabled]
• (not very good)
‣ Enable Hibernate and put it in menu - Easy-Peasy

• Software Prerequisites
Code:
sudo apt install pm-utils cpufrequtils
1. Edit a specific file with this command.
Code:
 sudo gedit /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla
∘ 2. Scroll down the Text Document and find the below sections:
[Disable hibernate by default in upower]
[Disable hibernate by default in logind]
‣ Change both the values from no to yes in:
ResultActive=no
(change this to yes)

• Save, Exit & Reboot - Done!

• To test if hibernate works in your computer by running command:
Code:
 sudo pm-hibernate
• After you computer turns off, switch it back on.
‣ Did your open applications re-open? If so it works, if not then hibernate
does not work. You can check if your Swappiness partition is at least as large
as your available RAM, as it may solve the problem.

3rd Solution
ACPI Woes Bandaid FIX,
ACPI stands for Advance Configuration and Power Interface (Thunderbolt)

[Bug 1558479] Re: Installation Complete Restart Now Boot Hang (VirtualBox))

2017-10-22 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1447038 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447038

Awesome - Here is my fix.

I had tried everything (10-20 different fixes, and getting frustrated -
tough to troubleshoot), but this worked.

And i will re-iterate it for others.

Reduce the timeout in `/etc/systemd/system.conf`:

**Remove #** from these lines to activate them, and change timings in
these following lines (they were 90 seconds!):

DefaultTimeoutStartSec=5s

DefaultTimeoutStopSec=5s

In terminal

sudo -H gedit /etc/systemd/system.conf

Save, Exit (reload it to confirm the changes as i had some strange
"Gedit Errors)

Then run:

sudo systemctl daemon-reload

Reboot now in 5-10 Seconds - Awesome !

Say Thanks, Mark

[Bug 1723288] Re: Re: My first Personal Bug

2017-10-13 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
w.r.t. "wayland and nvidia" - ya I should not have diffused this with that
misleading update info - My Bad.
I am sadly aware that Wayland is not supported in Optimus Laptop YET, but I
never knew it does not work with Nvidia either, H. Interesting.

w.r.t. 'ubuntu-bug' script
other than submitting bugs that popup on my screen, and adding "Developer
Option", I don't know how to make one. Perhaps you can enlighten me.

Even if it is moot because the problem is at boot up (before grub) where
I don't think I can copy/paste anything.

If there is anyway to add more info please tell me, and I will be glad
to add it and/or recreate it the problem and add it.

Cheers, Mark

[Bug 1723288] Re: Re: My first Personal Bug

2017-10-13 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
For troubleshooting, I went back into the BIOS, and put "USB HDD" as top
priority as I have always had it on EVERY computer I have EVER booted from a
USB device (only a few hundred),
and the problem
"boot error>"
AGAIN

It is almost (and I am just guessing here) as if grub is looking on the
wrong device and/or getting stuck on the "USB HDD" and NOT going to the
next priority "notebook HDD".

SO NOT FIXED! Thanks for saying thanks - a new way to help others - AWESOME
p.s. I have been using Ubuntu Forums, and Steam Forums for years trying to
help so many, and fell I am falling on deaf ears.

It is nice to see this is actively looked at.
p.s.s. I will always try to help as much as possible!!

[Bug 1723288] Re: Re: My first Personal Bug

2017-10-13 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
It Appears to be fixed - though too soon to be sure. A new update to
xwayland and xorg and similar things may have fixed it. It was somewhat
inconsistent.

It may be that I changed my boot order in boot devices so the "notebook
Hdd" is at the top. (Not the USB Hdd). I will restart again with the
BIOS changed back to the way I have ALWAYS had it with "USB Hdd" as
first priority.

Another likely related problem is hanging reboot (not shutting down
without playing around with C+A+F1-F3)

[Bug 411688] Re: pulseaudio floods network with multicast packets

2016-02-23 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
Wow Thanks You

3 installs later just to find it creep into my system after a couple of
days, and nothing on the web unless you know the phrase "flooded" the
network.

And indeed using System Monitor it tricked me to believing it was other things,
then finally who would have guessed - PulseAudio, after using it for 8 years,
indeed no Airtunes here, perhaps it started after installing Audacity - I don't
know for sure, but kinda makes sense know.

indeed paprefs - Multicast/RTP - DISable "Multicast/RTP sender"
and/or gconf editor : pulseaudio -> modules -> rtp-send -Uncheck "enabled

How is this still a problem 5 years later - WOW

Thanks again

[Bug 1303462] Re: [Regression] Window titlebars placed behind panel

2015-05-07 Thread markackerm...@gmail.com
Easy Peasy Solution

You need to set the appropriate option in the Compiz Place Windows
plugin.

Open CCSM (make sure you have it installed first).
Find the Place Windows plugin:
CSSM
Now, in the options, make sure that smart placement is selected.
Smarty

This option is usually set by default, but sometimes for some reason it
is not. I am not 100% certain as to the cause (still trying to find it).
If you do not have the place windows plugin, make sure to check that you
have any additional compiz plugins installed in the software centre.
