[Bug 667856] Re: kpackagekitsmarticon crashes with segfault in QWidget::metric
Happened on my fresh up-to-date x86 install as well. I changed sources in kpackagekit (through "edit origins") to find out if it happens only when there are updates available. Instead of crashing turning some sources off and than back on (with restarts in between) solved the problem and notifier works again. This solved the same crash on other install as well. It took me two days and and 2 testing installs to solve. [Bug 520546] Re: Alt-f2 switches to virtual terminal 2
I had the same problem. ALT-F2 switched to terminal 2, ALT-F1 (not F7) switched back to GNOME GUI, CTRL-ALT-Fx did not work at all. At the same time all texts written in GUI application were copied into tty1 as well (these texts are visible during shutdown. This includes also cursor movements. tty1 showed repeating failing login prompts fed by characters entered in GUI. After pressing CTRL-C in GUI, GDM is restarted and everything is functioning normally. To me it looks like GDM is running in tty1 and keyboard mapping is confused. Last restarts (after al upgrades) I could not reproduce problem with ALT-Fx keys to switch to different terminal, but CTRL-ALT-F7 does not switch to GUI and CTRL-ALT-F1 switches to GUI - so it still some discrepancy where the GUI is actually running. [Bug 520762] [NEW] broken login screen to KDM after KDE SC 4.4 upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace After upgrade to KDE 4.4.0 (from KDE 4.3.5) in Kubuntu 9.10, screen goes blank just before kdm login screen (sometimes it is possible to see login screen for short moment). It is possible to move with mouse cursor, but it is huge. I guess screen resolution is down to something like 640x480. Attempting to switch to ttys show color patterns and system appears to be frozen. It is possible to reboot with ALT+SYSRQ+B. After discussion with others affected on #Kubuntu channel on freenode we found following workarounds: - immediate restart of KDM with ALT+E, afterwards it works - switching to other tty and back to tty7 - using GDM or other login manager instead of KDM - boot to recovery console and start KDM manually Things which did not help: - reinstalling KDM, kubuntu-desktop, xorg-driver-fglrx - removing/renaming .kde folder All available updates are applied. After successful login using any of the workarounds ttys remain unusable filled with graphical color stripes garbage. This problem was originally reported as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=226392 and following on J. Ridell advice I am opening it here. [Bug 74362] Re: usb wireless device zd1211rw 5-2:1.0: zd_chip_control_leds error -19
The bug just manifested on my Linux 2.6.24-11-generic #1 SMP Fri Feb 29 22:08:31 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux It is not solved. O remember having this problem for long time - probably from edgy through feisty, gutsy and now in heron from alpha 1 to last update few hours ago (alpha 6 I suppose). I would suggest 2 things to all suffering from this bug: 1, do not use cable to connect your usb dongle, stick it right into usb. This way I reduced my wifi problems down to random freeze every few hours (similar to original bug text) 2, do not use power button, use ALT SYSRQ keyboard combination: http://fosswire.com/2007/09/08/fix-a-frozen-system-with-the-magic-sysrq-keys/ I suspect this bug could be the combination of hardware and software failure. First something goes wrong with dongle connection, which unregister it from the usb bus. Then zd1211rw (or kernel) does not handle this situation correctly. zd1211 continues to try reading from disconnected dongle and partly hangs the whole usb subsystem. Is there a way to restart usb subsystem without restarting the whole computer? What else could be done to investigate this? Last suggestion (to use zd1211rw-mac80211 which I tested unsuccessfully) is almost year old. I would love to help to solve it, just give me some direction what to test. -- usb wireless device zd1211rw 5-2:1.0: zd_chip_control_leds error -19 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/74362 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 157758] Re: /etc/usplash.conf contains wrong values after install
I marked my bugreport https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/160634 as duplicate of this bug report. Setting resolution in /etc/usplash.conf to my native 1024x768 and running 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure usplash' solved my problem. Having usplash set to wrong resolution severely affects boot time (on my system it took always more than 3 minutes to get to login screen - after reconfiguration it is 1 minute). I used to press CTRL-F1, which causes immediate resume of boot sequence. I did not find any signs what is done during extra 2 minutes. I just see some time gaps in log files. During boot, instead od "splash screen" screen remains blank and booting seems to halt. After pressing CTRL-ALT-F1, booting resumes in console to fully functional system (sometimes CTRL-D is needed to leave console). Card is correctly recognised and Compiz in Ubuntu works. Live CD and Gutsy system upgraded from Feisty (although I am not sure upgrade was correct - that's why I reinstalled) are not affected. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- booting with ati IGP340M stops on splash screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153388] Re: Gusty bluetooth OBEX Push (File receive)
I have the same problem with kdebluetooth. As a workaround I transferred files from mobile directly to USB key running Feisty Live CD. From the links provided by Origaman I suspect this will not be solved very soon. Could the Gutsy downgrade to Feisty kdebluetooth for the time beeing? Or can I downgrade kdebluetooth only on my computer somehow? -- Gusty bluetooth OBEX Push (File receive) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153388 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155250] Re: Update manager keeps prompting to upgrade even after the upgrade is over
I can confirm this bug. After downloading about 50 files upgrade stops on stage two saying that my system is up-to-date. ** Attachment added: "apt.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10125491/apt.log -- Update manager keeps prompting to upgrade even after the upgrade is over https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155250 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
