[Bug 376024] Re: alsa-utils missing asoundconf

2009-12-27 Thread maybeway36
If the ALSA default is PulseAudio, you can change PulseAudio's "default" card
with pacmd.
$ pacmd list-sinks | less
$ pacmd set-default-sink [index number]
It's really the fallback card for apps that haven't told PulseAudio what card
they want to use. One of those apps, of course, is ALSA.

Also, the Debian menu taking up the whole menu is actually
intentional, something I did not realize when I filed the bug.

I think edubuntu-desktop-kde is to be installed in place of the
regular edubuntu-desktop metapackage, but edubuntu-addon-kde is to be
installed alongside it. Why they aren't one in the same is beyond me.
Krita probably isn't appropriate for Edubuntu, it's more of a
professional product. Kolourpaint seems like it would make a nice
candidate if it can get into main in 8.10 or 9.04.

[Bug 217929] [NEW] ubuntu hardy's modified human theme does not have a name in Appearances applet - shows up as "Custom"

2008-04-15 Thread maybeway36
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: human-theme

When a user opens the Appearances applet in Ubuntu 8.10, several themes are
listed. The one currently selected is Custom, and it is the Ubuntu 8.04 default
theme. None of the eight other themes match it. The "Human" theme listed as an
option is actually the theme from Ubuntu 7.10.
If a user selects another theme (such as Clearlooks) and then wants to go back

But yes, the user/passwd database should DEFINITELY be synced.

The installation process could ask some questions like "Do you want to
require a username and password to be entered when accessing this
computer's files over the network?"
User if yes, and share if no.
The "Shared Folders" applet should also allow you to change this EASILY.

With default smb.conf:
1. I go to Places>Network
2. I go to Windows Network
3. I go to penguin palace (my SMB workgroup)
4. I go to BANANA (my computer, with a Samba server up and running)
5. Nautilus hangs for about one minute and then says:
Sorry, could not display all the contents of "Windows Network: banana."

Aha! It's a problem with my ISP. I tried smbclient -L //win2000 (a
Windows 2000 computer) and it gave:

timeout connecting to 64.158.56.56:445
timeout connecting to 64.158.56.56:139
Error connecting to 64.158.56.56 (Operation already in progress)
Connection to win2000 failed (Error NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)

And when I typed fykyfktykty in my Firefox address bar, it went to
http://www11.charter.net/search?qo=fykyfktykty&rn=0N-xs7fhaSxxxgQ
Guess what the IP address of www11.charter.net is? That's right, 64.158.56.56.
Ubuntu thinks that's the SMB server since it comes up first, and tries
to connect to it.

[Bug 162706] smb.conf resolve order messes up Nautilus

2007-11-14 Thread maybeway36
Public bug reported:

By default, the smb.conf file in Ubuntu sets the name resolve order to:
name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast
However, this makes it impossible to access SMB hosts by hostname in
Nautilus/GNOME in most home networks. Hosts can be accessed only by IP address.
This problem can be fixed by changing the line to
name resolve order = bcast
This probably introduces problems for corporate setups, however.

[Bug 157482] browsing samba shares still broken in nautilus

2007-10-26 Thread maybeway36
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. go to Places>Network
2. go to Windows Network in the new Nautilus window
3. go to your workgroup
4. go to a computer with shared folders
5. Nautilus will hang for about a minute and then say:
"Sorry, could not display all the contents of [computer name]"
This happens with every computer on the network. I most recently witnessed this
bug in Gutsy tribe 5, but have not checked since then (I am a Kubuntu user.)
However, this bug drives me crazy when I use standard GNOME Ubuntu.
P.S. Connect to Server didn't work either.

[Bug 155551] some icons don't align to grid on login

2007-10-21 Thread maybeway36
Public bug reported:

Steps to reprofuce:
1. Install Kubuntu 7.10 and frozen-bubble.
2. Add the Frozen-Bubble icon from the menu to desktop (right-click on it).
3. Right-click on the desktop, go to Icons, and check Align to Grid.
4. Log out, log back in.
The Frozen-Bubble icon is now slightly off, with the words "Frozen-Bubble" on
one line.
Moving the icon will get it back in line with the grid (where the label is on
two lines.)

[Bug 154658] kdesudo creates config files in ~ with uid 0

2007-10-19 Thread maybeway36
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdesudo

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Kubuntu 7.10.
2. Press Alt+F2 and run: kdesudo kwrite
3. Close KWrite
4. Launch KWrite normally with: kwrite
5. KWrite will complain about a read-only config file.

This has long been the reason why Ubuntu users caution not to use sudo with X11
apps. Why bring this bug into KDE?
In 7.04, it used kdesu which used the config files in /root, and all was well.
I will try removing kdesudo and see if it acts like Feisty Fawn again (my
desired behavior.)

[Bug 122937] Re: Rhythmbox desktop launcher icon appears too small

2007-10-17 Thread maybeway36
I just realized that whether or not the icons behave correctly depends on if
they are in PNG or XPM format. Firefox has a PNG icon, Rhythmbox uses an XPM
icon.
Also: check out ~/.nautilus/metafiles. The one for your desktop contains XML
entries for each icon; I added
icon_scale="2.56"
for the misbehaving icons. This makes it exactly 32x32, at least for Rhythmbox
and Movie Player.
