[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible
Still no fix, or an acceptable workaround for that matter... but Ive found some strange behaviour: the setting for the edge bindings ( in gconf) isn't set, although it is set in CCSM : /apps/compiz1/plugins/expo/screen0/options or the scale one... also, setting it up manually using gconf it doesn't fix the problem, however, if I open up the gconf editor, the expo edge will start working after 10 seconds except when a windos is touching that edge, I'm completly puzzled. unity --replace still works, sometimes unity crashes and one needs to run the command twice... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/858845 Title: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/858845/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1183213] Re: pwgen falls back to insecure entropy silently
Ok, I wasn't happy with the first patch, because some systems might not have FPUs. I've attached a patch that wastes some entropy, but still gives an unbiased /dev/urandom read. The quality of this program is fairly low overall, probably not suitable for main. The phonemes mode produces a tiny amount of entropy per- character, and that's the default for some reason. The secure mode is only getting fixed now, and could have subtly been sabotaging users. sha1 mode is just silly. passwdqc has pwqgen, which is a good random passphrase generator that can generate 26 - 81 bits worth of entropy in easily remembered passwords. For simple random password (pwgen -s style), I have a 50 line public domain python script that I could package if needed. ** Patch added: "A better patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pwgen/+bug/1183213/+attachment/3688288/+files/randnum_c_v2.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1183213 Title: pwgen falls back to insecure entropy silently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pwgen/+bug/1183213/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1183213] Re: pwgen falls back to insecure entropy silently
Attached is a patch that fixes the bug: - It will bail out with an error message and exit(1) if there's a problem with /dev/urandom and /dev/random - The modulo bias has been replaced with a fancy cast-as-double, then multiply by 1.0/2**31, then multiply by max_value and cast back as int configure.in should also be changed to get rid of the drand48 check (didn't want to spam patch) Note that pwgen is a dependency of some other packages that users might not be aware of, such as 'maas-region-controller' and openerp - perhaps a check of the apparmor policy of those packages is needed to make sure access to /dev/urandom wasn't blocked. ** Patch added: "pwgen-randnum.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pwgen/+bug/1183213/+attachment/3687536/+files/pwgen-randnum.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1183213 Title: pwgen falls back to insecure entropy silently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pwgen/+bug/1183213/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: 1st attempt installing 9.10 Karmic Koala on a Vista Home Premium laptop (Acer 2920z), I load up Ubuntu, do a search for hardware drivers to install. 2 entries for Broadcom appear. Installing the first (the one that mentions Firmware something or other) causes a kernel panic, and I'm locked out of the OS. Can't get back into Ubuntu, even in safe mode, do a fresh install, try installing the 2nd Broadcom driver this time, nothing happens, the "downloading and installing" progress bar continues to move, but there's no disk movement. Stays the same for a further 10+ minutes, I click the Crash Report logo icon that has now appeared, and end up typing this. Disappointed, previously used 8.1 on this laptop, and was hoping 9.1 would finally be the answer. [Bug 235679] Re: Asks for same password twice
No, I only have 2 filesystems (shame on me, i know) A root filesystem (/dev/sda6) and a swap filesystem (/dev/sda5). As laid out, the root filesystem is luksopen'ed from usplash (asking the password only once) and then it asks me the password for the swap partition twice (And yes I did fill in the correct password in both occasions. Eg: If i wanted to i could make cryptsetup ask me the password for the swap filesystem up to 6 times) Now could you please tell me how to turn boot logging on so that I can post the messages that cryptsetup gives me here. [Bug 235679] [NEW] Asks for same password twice
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cryptsetup --[ Ubuntu release ]-- Description: Ubuntu 8.04 Release: 8.04 --[ version of package ]-- 2:1.0.5-2ubuntu12 --[ Expected to happen ]-- When booting my laptop ubuntu is to ask the luks passwords of each and every file system (2 in my case) just once inside of usplash and hide all the nastiness it involves --[ What happened instead ]-- When I boot my laptop it asks for the password of the root file system in usplash and then switches back to a console. There it asks for the password of the swap device. luksopen works like a charm and I get a message saying something allong the lines of "/dev/sda5 contains data - cryptsetup failed". Then it asks for the password of the swap device again. cryptsetup does its thing again, gives the same complaint and the machine boots perfectly with swap enabled. Given the fact that this is a laptop, I have to boot daily. You can understand this is becoming somewhat of a nuisance. I would like to give you the full message(s) of what ever happens in boot. However /var/log/boot is empty (e.g.: It states "(Nothing has been logged yet.)") and scrolling through the giant list of boot messages on TTY8 is impossible. It will no longer adhere to the shift-pg up command. --[ Request ]-- Could you please: a) Tell me how to turn on boot logging so that I can supply a more detailed and complete description of this bug b) Start investigating the problem. [Bug 213171] [NEW] Unable to install with GUI on Fujitsu Lifebook C7651
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have an older Fujitsu Lifebook C7651 with a 1.2 Ghz Intel Pentium III - M processor, and Intel 830MG Video Chipset. I have used various flavors of linux on this laptop and each has worked well until the release of Ubuntu 7. I have had the same problem with the current release of Mandriva Linux. It seems that sometime between ubuntu 6 and ubuntu 7 the intel graphics driver was rewritten and the new software has caused problems with older intel chipsets. When I try to install the current ubuntu 8.04 beta in regular graphics mode the cd boots up and loads in non-gui mode then tries to go GUI and continues to load with a blank screen. After the CD drive quits spinning the screen dumps out to a command line. When I run the setup in "safe graphics" mode I get a hashed screen with various ghosted images, but I'm unable to see the screen enough to do any further setup. If I go back to an older Ubuntu 6 install things work fine. I found a mandriva bug -- https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=34583 that seems to address the problem and a workaround was created. I thought that this workaround would have been integrated into the new distributions to help all of us with older systems with intel chipsets be able to keep up with the latest software. It seems though that I am still having the same problem with the current 8.04 heron beta.
