[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs
7GB in my case. I am the only user, but what I do in a rare case is put the computer into Suspend mode. Truly stupid behavior, to fill up a log with 7GB+++ of same error, without ever showing an on-screen notification to a user (ONLY ONCE PLEASE, NOT SEVEN BILLION NOTIFICATIONS), ASSUMING this error has any significance to the user whatsover. Yes, Linux suspend behavior needs polishing. Video does not resume, etc, etc, etc. I only use it on a rare forced need, but multiple things break on resume of session after a Suspend. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846374 Title: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-340/+bug/1846374/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode
The patch of @Thomas Mayer only applies cleanly to LTS 16.04, while I run 14.04. @Sami Jaktholm: I had to add another line to your proposal in comment #3 in /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox to get it running: /dev/shm/org.chromium.* rw, /run/shm/org.chromium.* rw, Not only "/dev" but also "/run" seems to be necessary for 14.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1627239 Title: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1627239/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode
I do not think the proposed patch by @Thomas Mayer https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1659988/+attachment/4809979/+files/usr.bin.firefox.patch completely disables apparmor for firefox, but allows access to certain aspects of the system. Those access rights seem to be necessary to run with e10s. The thread author Sami proposed to just add shm/chromium rw in #3 but this workaround does not fix the issue for me. So there have to be other restrictions which prevent firefox e10s from running smoothly. [Bug 668198] [NEW] On my GForce GTX460 the movie had large tiles (flickering) specifically in action scenes
Public bug reported: On my Ubunto 10.10 (64Bit) the installation of the latest nvidia driver (which has been proposed by ) had resulted in just a black screen with mouse pointer. The mouse was working, but keyboard not - even switching to console 1 by pressing Ctrl-Alt-1 was not possible. Hint: I needed to re-install Ubuntu, because "adt-get remove nvidia-current" did not work properly. For this, I am using the older nvidia driver, which came with the DVD iso image. It looks like gramofile couldn't simply find bplay_gramo in my first attempt when nothing was happening. [Bug 200181] Re: after upgrade to 7.10 gramofile bring the followin failure /dev/dsp: invalid argument
Actually, it worked after all. One has to INSTALL the binaries. At first I just run "debian/rules build", and tried to run the resulting gramofile binary without any other actions with the results reported above. As it took me some time to figure it out, it may be useful for others who are also new at compiling packages from source, to summarize it. The easiest way is to follow this steps: 1. apt-get source gramofile 2. apt-get build-dep gramofile 3. cd gramofile-1.6 4. fakeroot debian/rules binary 5. cd .. 6 dpkg -i gramofile_1.6-8_i386.deb 7. Now you can delete the gramofile-1.6 directory and all the other intermediate files yuu don't want to keep In step 1. the downloaded archives are extracted and the patches are applied, so that the directory gramofile-1.6 created in that step actually contains the code for version 1.6-8. Step 4 creates the binary debian package gramofile_1.6-8_i386.deb that one can distribute. It contains binary gramofile and bplay_gramo that are smaller than those created by "debian/rules build". Only after I installed this debian package in step 6 as any other debian packages, did my gramofile started to work. Even my first version created by "debian/rules build". I also tried in 4. binary-arch, but it did not seem to do any difference for my system. I was able to copy my gramofile_1.6-8_i386.deb to another machine (a Dell mini 9), install it there and it worked. On both machine the binary gramofile package installed from Ubuntu did not work, gave the same message as others reported above (/dev/dsp: invalid argument) -- after upgrade to 7.10 gramofile bring the followin failure /dev/dsp: invalid argument https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200181 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 492312] [NEW] vim crashes with .vimrc
Public bug reported: This is the previous question I found (#86350): >When I have a .vimrc file, vim crashes. This happens in Karmic, up to date >as of 2009-10-19. If this is a vim or a lib problem, I >can't imagine that >I'm the only one seeing this, so I wonder what might be set up wrong. >Vim: Caught deadly signal ABRT The poster then says the problem was corrected when s/he installed a *newer* vim package. I need to build vim from source since the distro package does not include all the features I use. I notice that yesterday, by some coincidence, someone posted a follow up to this question saying he was having this same problem "using vim-7.2.tar.bz" which is the source. I have used this source more than a few times on fedora and debian systems without a problem, it has been considered stable for more than a year. Googling for this "caught deadly signal" does not produce any relevant hits besides here. I've been a member of the vim (user) mailing-list for a while, and it has not been mentioned there. I did an strace; vim does completely process the vimrc file and then aborts somewhat after that -- in any case, as per the original question, it happens with a completely empty .vimrc file. If updating the vim package back in October fixed the problem, this implies somebody at ubuntu is aware of what it was (and solved the problem by hacking the vim source -- tisk!). Any help you could provide would be much appreciated, my OS is basically a platform for vim ;) and this would make ubuntu unusable for me. ** Affects: vim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- vim crashes with .vimrc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 491557] [NEW] installer mangles partition table
Public bug reported: Having never used the ubuntu installer before (9.10) but being a long term linux user and programmer, I have some very negative thoughts about it, if you are interested: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8427882#post8427882 However, more significant than just the uninformative and misleading interface is the fact that "place partitions side by side" left me with this: Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 -> 12647 101586996 83 Linux /dev/sda2 -> 20251 2639049319550 83 Linux /dev/sda3 26391 42709 131082367+ 83 Linux /dev/sda4 42710 60801 1453239905 Extended /dev/sda5 42710 60061 139379908+ 83 Linux /dev/sda6 60062 60801 5944018+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris Notice, there is 50+ gb of "unusable free space" left between sda1 and sda2. Based on the previous size, I would say the installer: 1) resized sda2 using it's original start block. 2) resized sda1 using it's original start block, leaving a 50gb hole that is now good for nothing. The fact that the disk was half empty and only had 3 partitions on it also cries out to me that NO resizing was necessary in the first place. In any case, the purpose of the installer cannot be to just leave big gaps in the partition table, so I am filing this as a BUG. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- installer mangles partition table https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491557 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 311954] Re: suspend/hibernate stopped working after abrupt shutdown
Here are futher observations: Using a USB device interferes with suspend/hibernation. When something is plugged in my USB ports, suspend/hibernation seems to always fail (everytime I tried it so far with USB device plugged in). The I have to 'sudo update-initramfs -u' again, reboot once, and then suspend/hibernation works again. After I just plugged in a USB device, and unplugged it right away, and tried suspend, computer did not go in a complete sleep mode, but instead only after a few seconds the computer immediately came back from suspend. Even when I hibernate successfully, at the beginning of the hibernation process, I see a fleeting error message (most of the time, maybe every time?) about PCI...something failing to thaw. But otherwise everyhting seems to work as expected. The two executions of 'sudo update-initramfs -u' that I wrote about before, were not meant for two different kernel version, but it was the identical repetiotion of the same commad for the same kernel. I am not sure whether one really needs to run it twice every time, but I was suprise to see, that the size of initrd.img produced for the same kernel by consecutive runs of 'sudo update-initramfs -u' always changes between runs by a few bytes (up to a hundred bytes or so). Actually so far I did it only three times consecutively at most ... -- suspend/hibernate stopped working after abrupt shutdown https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311954 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have got the same problem (error message) as above, exactly the same output from dmesg. The above lines are generated after pluging in the Dazzle DVC-80 (Digital Video Creator) - an USB device for capturing analog video from Composite or S-video input. This device is at least partially recognized by USBvision, b ut so far I have not been able to record a single frame from it under Linux. I tried mplayer, mencoder, xawtv , ... - nothing worked with DVC-80 so far. I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-7, then upgraded to -2.6.27-9. I would be grateful for any hints (or patches, error correction) on how to make DVC-80 working. I am attacing two screenshots from the Device Manager with info on DVC-80 (which is also for ssome reason referred to in some places as DVC-800, but it is actually the same device).
