[Bug 641161] Re: Dell inspiron mini 1010 (Atom Z530 1Gb RAM) won't boot after installing Ubuntu
Try disconnecting all USB devices and see if you can boot. I got a blinking cursor as well after an upgrade, but in my case it seems to be a problem with Grubs UHCI driver. If I connect my keyboard to a port driven by a OHCI controller grub starts normally. -- Dell inspiron mini 1010 (Atom Z530 1Gb RAM) won't boot after installing Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/641161 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 630586] Re: GRUB will not load on install.
I have these exact symptoms. I'm running Maverick and this started about a week ago after an update. Today I discovered by chance that if I disconnect my USB keyboard before booting, the grub menu appears. I can then connect the keyboard and boot like normal. I've tried it several times with and without the keyboard connected and it's repeatable every time. This has never been a problem before so I don't think it's likely to be a hardware problem. -- GRUB will not load on install. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630586 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 366222] Re: kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse
hi, i'm sorry guys, but i've had enough. it's been more than a month since jaunty became stable. It's true that i first installed a beta release and i upgraded from there to stable. After trying a lot of things suggested here and in other forums i ended up making a clean install, just in case. The problem still persists after a month and i can't put with it anymore. As it's not the first time this is happening (a similar think happened to me with intrepid and the bug reported was rejected), 3 days ago i moved to another distro. So far, no problem at all, everything has worked out of the box, no hangs, no freezes, nothing at all. I've been an ubuntu user ever since gutsy came out, but after two bad experiences in a row i have to say goodbye. In my opinion, it's ok to say: this only happens to a 0.001% of the users and i don't know when we will find the time to fix it. But one thing that really pisses people off is the luck of information. What's more, i was promised a new kernel which would fix all my problems, and i'm still waiting for any information on where to download or how to proceed. I think i've put a lot of effort on trying to find out what the problem was and provided all the information you asked for as soon as posible... and what i've got is... silence. -- kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 366222] Re: kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse
i did what xapient suggested... and the problem still persists. I've gone from twice a day to once every two days or so. I can't deny it's a big improvement. However, the system still hangs with driver 2.4. while using the mouse, the same scenario. Last time, just 5 minutes ago while pressing on the Send button in a web form. I'll try now with the uxa command in xorg.conf, although i don't really think it's going to work, i don't have much hope left. -- kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 366222] Re: kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse
hi everyone. @xapient: thanks for the advice, I've already moved back to driver 2.4. We'll see what happens. If it doesn't hang completely in 3 o 4 days i can say it's working, as right now i still have to reboot twice a day. @marco: did that really work for you? i haven't used the non-propietary drivers cause it's not just that you are not able to run compiz. I don't really care about compiz, i just want the system to run smoothly and with the non-proprietary drivers that doesn't happen. I mean, for example while scrolling up and down with firefox or a folder with a large amount of files... kde's behaviour is curious. anyway.. what i did try was go back to nvidia 9x drivers, and i had the same kind of problems. let's hope that what xapient suggested works. thanks. -- kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 366222] [NEW] kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse
Public bug reported: Hi, first of all I'm sorry if it looks like I'm repeating the same bug that has been already reported. I've read through the whole launchpad system and people talk about graphic card or xorg related freezes, and i don't feel like I'm in the same situation. let's see... I've been using kubuntu jaunty for quite long time. I think I downloaded one of its first alpha releases. At first it was a bit of a mess... naturally!! but now almost everything has been fixed. However, I still get the system hanged from time to time, randomly without a reason. I've gone through all the logs and failed to see the reason while it keeps hanging over and over again. It's always when I use the mouse. It's funny cause I opened a bug some months ago about ubuntu 8.04. Back then, the problem was fixed by removing powernow software... and I never had this problem again. I'm using a Intel Pentium 4 processor. When I installed Jaunty, I quickly removed powernow, but still today after all the updates I get the system hanged from time to time. It's not only the X server and not only either while using Firefox. After that, I have to entirely reboot the system by pressing the button. I'm attaching all the logs I think can be useful, just let me know if you need anything else. Hi Philippe, yes, if not the same bug, they are really similar and must be somehow related. Are you also running kubuntu with an Intel processor? I can also confirm that this never happens after hours working from shell, either from inside or outside the X server (i mean Ctrl-Alt-F1). Even when I connect to my machine from work and run some tests on it... it has never hanged or showed any problem/warning/error at all. However, when I'm using the mouse for a while, it usually hangs. The problem is that, as far as I am aware of, it doesn't seem to fall into a pattern, so.. unfortunately i cannot provide any further details. [Bug 306891] [NEW] lifeview trio pci (saa7134) not working through diseqc anymore
Public bug reported: Hi everyone, i've got 2 satellite dishes home and a diseqc 2.0. i've been using ubuntu/kubuntu for quite a while now but until hardy came out, i couldn't use my lifeview pci trio pci card at all, as i want it to work throught diseqc, to get channels from both dishes, so i kept going back to windows, unfortunately. The thing is that my whole setup works, as i've got a machine with dual boot and window xp installed on one partition. Needless to say that i can , with prodvb, altdvb, etc, tune both satellites through diseqc. so... when hardy came out i decided to try again... i downloaded the cd, i386 version and installed. I almost went crazy when i launched kaffeine and i was able to tune channels from both satellites... almost out of the box!!! i hadn't been able to do this in earlier versions (well... a part from having to call modprobe saa7134 front_end=1 to use the satellite chip) so... i searched for all the channels with kaffeine and i started watching channels without any problem. Then, i had the bad idea of doing apt-get update apt-get upgrade i didn't get any error message at all... but when i ran kaffeine again. no channels could be viewed. Then i started to go crazy trying to get it working again. I deleted the whole list of channels and tried to tune again... with no luck... i would only get channels from one satellite, that on on switch 1 in the diseqc. After 2 days i loaded windows to see if i had broken something... but i hadn't, everything was working fine there. then i loaded the old kernel, linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic, then the updated one again linux-image-2.6.24-22-generic then i tried to go back to an earlier version of kaffeine (just in case) i'm using 0.8.6-0ubuntu8.3 and i went back to 0.8.6-0ubuntu8.1 and even 0.8.6-0ubuntu8 no luck with all that. and then i found out how to scan channels from command line, and i saw that no matter what switch you tell saa7134 to scan on, i will always go to switch 1 on the diseqc. here's what i got from scanning switch 1 (astra 28.2E) scan -s 1 /home/servidor/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/dvb-s/Astra-28.2E tune to: 10729:v:1:22000 0x 0x206c: pmt_pid 0x0100 BSkyB -- E4+1 (running) 0x 0x2071: pmt_pid 0x0103 BSkyB -- E4 (running) 0x 0x2077: pmt_pid 0x0101 BSkyB -- Channel 4 +1 (running) 0x 0x2078: pmt_pid 0x0102 BSkyB -- Channel 4 +1 (running) 0x 0x2079: pmt_pid 0x010f BSkyB -- Channel 4 +1 (running) 0x 0x207a: pmt_pid 0x0107 BSkyB -- Channel 4 +1 (running) 0x 0x207b: pmt_pid 0x0108 BSkyB -- Channel 4 +1 (running, scrambled) 0x 0x207c: pmt_pid 0x010a BSkyB -- Channel 4 +1 (running) 0x 0x2094: pmt_pid 0x010c BSkyB -- More4 (running) 0x 0x20c5: pmt_pid 0x0106 BSkyB -- 8389 (running, scrambled) 0x 0x23f7: pmt_pid 0x0104 BSkyB -- c4 l +1 (running) 0x 0x23f8: pmt_pid 0x0109 BSkyB -- e4 (running) switch 2 (astra 19E) scan -s 2 /home/servidor/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E tune to: 10788:v:2:22000 0x 0x283d: pmt_pid 0x0100 BSkyB -- BBC 1 W Mids (running) 0x 0x283e: pmt_pid 0x0101 BSkyB -- BBC 1 N West (running) 0x 0x283f: pmt_pid 0x0102 BSkyB -- BBC 1 YrksLin (running) 0x 0x2840: pmt_pid 0x0103 BSkyB -- BBC 1 Yorks (running) 0x 0x2841: pmt_pid 0x0104 BSkyB -- BBC 1 E Mids (running) 0x 0x2842: pmt_pid 0x0105 BSkyB -- BBC 1 East (E) (running) 0x 0x2851: pmt_pid 0x0106 BSkyB -- ETV5 (running) And this is the problem!!! on Astra-19.2 there's no BBC 1 W Mids. [Bug 305532] Re: bluetooth keyboard not working on kubuntu hardy
Hi, i've found a workaround for my problem. It's simple, i'm running the kernel with acpi=off and now i can use my keyboard or any other bluetooth device without any problem. Xorg doesn't break anymore, everything appears as it should. however, i still get the message: console-kit-daemon[5789]: WARNING: Unable to activate console: No such device or address but it's different from other user's errors, as mine doesn't apper with a SIGSEGV or anything like that, i can only see that line from console- kit-daemon every time that kubuntu boots. -- bluetooth keyboard not working on kubuntu hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 305532] Re: bluetooth keyboard not working on kubuntu hardy
Hi again, i've been looking through the log files to see what could be causing this, and i've found the message: *** console-kit-daemon[5865]: WARNING: Unable to activate console: No such device or address *** if i understand well... this has caused problems with xorg to other users as well. I haven't found anyone else who gets this message while using a bluetooth keyboard, though. -- bluetooth keyboard not working on kubuntu hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 305532] [NEW] bluetooth keyboard not working on kubuntu hardy
Public bug reported: hi, i've got my kubuntu hardy fully updated with kernel 2.6.24-22-generic in a single-core machine, 32 bits. the thing is that i've used ubuntu for some time now and i never had problems with my mouse or keyboard which talks to kubuntu through bluetooth. Right now, with hardy (and also intrepid) i'm unable to use the keyboard, while the mouse works ok. both mouse and keyboard are advent and i've tried with concentronik and also belkin usb bluetooth on my computer. The one i'm using right now show this: * # lsusb Bus 002 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0a5c:200a Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth dongle Bus 001 Device 001: ID : # The issue is quite weird and hard to explain, let's hope i put it very clear: steps to reproduce this problem: -i put my mouse on visible mode -i press right button on bluetooth icon and say add device -i find new mouse, i add it, and i'm able to use it without any more trouble. -kubunts asks me if i trust this device, i say yes, always and then i'm able to use it whenever i want without any problem. -i reboot the machine and i'm still able to use the bluetooth mouse after pressing several times any of the buttons.. i guess this is normal behaviour... but anyway... it's ok to me... -also, for example, i've got ktorrent in .kde/Autostart and it starts without problem and i can see its icon on the task bar (i'll explain later why this is important) now it comes where the problem starts: -i put my keyboard on visible mode -i press right button on bluetooth icon and say add device -i find new keyboard, i add it. -kubuntu asks me to enter a key that i set up in my bluetooth device. It's a simple keyboard, i guess it doesn't have this key (it used to work without any problem before)... so... i press empty key and after a few seconds waiting and pressing God knows how meny keys. the keyboard seems to work. -kubunts asks me if i trust this device, i say yes, always -i reboot the machine to see if kubuntu still can find both devices -when kubuntu is back... i move the mouse... and it starts working i press some keys on the keyboard but i won't work at all. even if i delete it from the trusted devices and so on and i get back to set up the device... it won't work... -i also find then that the ktorrent icon is not there anymore, although ktorrent seems to be working. Also, if i launch firefox, for example, i can't see the top bar where the X to close the window is... so i have to go File-Exit to exit firex. It looks like something is broken on kde when i use my keyboard and things don't appear propperly on the desktop. These are the logs i get from bluetooth, the seem normal to me, i can't see any problem: kern.log Dec 5 17:07:54 servidor kernel: [ 44.671726] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.11 Dec 5 17:07:54 servidor kernel: [ 44.694815] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized Dec 5 17:07:54 servidor kernel: [ 44.694819] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized Dec 5 17:07:54 servidor kernel: [ 45.002053] Bluetooth: HCI USB driver ver 2.9 Dec 5 17:08:04 servidor kernel: [ 62.190277] Bluetooth: L2CAP ver 2.9 Dec 5 17:08:04 servidor kernel: [ 62.190281] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized Dec 5 17:08:04 servidor kernel: [ 62.251413] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized Dec 5 17:08:04 servidor kernel: [ 62.251429] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized Dec 5 17:08:04 servidor kernel: [ 62.251430] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.8 Dec 5 17:08:50 servidor kernel: [ 107.471484] Bluetooth: HIDP (Human Interface Emulation) ver 1.2 Dec 5 17:08:50 servidor kernel: [ 107.472370] input: Bluetooth Mouse as /devices/pci:00/:00:04.0/usb1/1-2/1-2:1.0/hci0/acl0003C98C1BB2/input/input6 Dec 5 17:08:55 servidor kernel: [ 113.341199] input: Bluetooth Keyboard as /devices/pci:00/:00:04.0/usb1/1-2/1-2:1.0/hci0/acl0003C98C2E31/input/input7 debug Dec 5 15:48:37 servidor NetworkManager: debug [1228488517.422861] nm_hal_device_removed(): Device removed (hal udi is '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/bluetooth_acl_3c98c2e31_logicaldev_input'). [Bug 240246] Re: kubuntu hardy x64 hangs completely when using firefox 3
Hi everyone, i've been updating firefox-3.0 from apt repositories everyday. Today i already have version: firefox-3.0 3.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 and.. well... the problem persists, and it also crashed when i was using rc2. -- kubuntu hardy x64 hangs completely when using firefox 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 240246] [NEW] kubuntu hardy x64 hangs completely when using firefox 3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Hello, i've been trying firefox 3 rc1 on kubuntu hardy since it came out on 11th june. I've had so many freezes, complete OS freezes while using firefox. That hasn't happened to me using other browsers visiting the same webpages or even earlier versions of firefox 3, like beta 5. The thing is for example: I'm in a website with a simple html form. When i press on the submit button, firefox and the whole kubuntu freeze, and i have to press the reset button, there's no way to recover the system, not even with crtl+alt+supr. Other situations when i've experienced this whole hanging thing is when i've got several tabs opened and i close one by pressing the middle botton from the mouse. Also when there's a simple html link and i use the middle botton to open up the link in a new tab. As this hasn't happened to me with other browsers or firefox versions, i guess there's must be something wrong with this version of firefox, but they say that firefox can't hang the whole system, so i'm asking you guys now. Just let me know if i can provide you with any extra information you need. The details of my system are: firefox version: firefox-3.03.0~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 kubuntu version: 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kubuntu hardy x64 hangs completely when using firefox 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 90529] Re: feature request: Remove from the gnome taskbar
A workaround to make xmms disappear from the taskbar when using xmms- status-plugin is to activate Show window manager decorations in xmms' options. This has the side-effect of actually showing the wm decorations, but the whole point of the status-plugin is to get rid of the player gui anyway so maybe it doesn't matter. -- feature request: Remove from the gnome taskbar https://launchpad.net/bugs/90529 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 90761] Re: Bugs with xmms-status-plugin's yellow banner
A workaround is to turn of the balloon notification by setting the timeout to zero (under the System Tray Protocol tab in the xmms-status- plugin settings). Unfortunately, there is a bug in the plug-in that causes this setting to be discarded at load so this value has to be reset manually at each startup. Included one-line patch fixes this. Note that this doesn't fix the bug reported but merely enables a simple workaround. ** Attachment added: Fixes bug that hinders storing of option to disable balloon messages http://librarian.launchpad.net/6718798/xmms-status-plugin-balloon-disable.patch -- Bugs with xmms-status-plugin's yellow banner https://launchpad.net/bugs/90761 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
