Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest version of Firefox 3.0? Thanks in

[Bug 133535] gnome-terminal doesn't show menu...

2007-08-19 Thread murrayf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Hello,

 Using gutsy tribe 4, I have noticed gnome-terminal (2.19.0) doesn't
show menu by default, the command "gnome-terminal --show-menubar" is
necessary to view it. Also, it's not possible to open tabs with the
keyboard (control-shift-T) and the option --tab doesn't work. Please fix
it!

Thanks,

Alberto.

[Bug 107322] Re: firewire hard disk only detected at boot process...

2007-08-21 Thread murrayf
Hello Stefan,

Thank you for your info, I didn't pretend to solve everybody's
firewire troubles, my intention was to inform ubuntu users, that newer
kernels can "let them manage better" firewire disks. Anyway, let's wait
for better perfomance of the new stack in future kernel releases.

Alberto.

[Bug 107322] about firewire develop in kernel...

2007-08-22 Thread murrayf
Hello again Stefan,

I understand your reasons of the earlier development of the new
stack to enable it now. I posted the "bug" because I saw how usb disks
was hotly recognized by ubuntu and my firewire disk only at boot. When I
saw the new firewire feature of kernel 2.6.23-rcX I decided to probe it
and the disk was recognized plugging it after booting (dmesg). For me
was an advantage and thought I have to publish it. My problem now is I
have to mount it manually and I don't see its icon on my desktop. I will
wait for 2.6.24.

Thanks,

Alberto.

"unknown error" than stratosphere and Fabio. Rhythmbox version is

[Bug 107322] [SOLVED] Re: firewire hard disk only detected at boot process

2007-08-10 Thread murrayf
Hello again,

This problem is solved compiling latest kernel from kernel.org
(2.6.23rc2 today) and enabling in its configuration the new experimental
firewire stack under "drivers"--> "firewire 1394". This kernel gives you
the chance to choose between this stack and the old, you can't enable
both. The new module is called "firewire_core", and is necesary to
enable also the new spb2 and the other (i don't remember now its
name...). In the latest Ubuntu kernel (2.6.22-9) this option is not
enabled, please update it for next kernel!. If you use a configuration
file (.config) the option is "CONFIG_FIREWIRE=y".

 Thanks,

Alberto.

[Bug 69752] Re: beagled-helper and beagle run away with CPU and memory (SOLVED)

2007-04-30 Thread murrayf
I have noticed the same problem in beagle 0.2.16.3 running on ubuntu feisty,
beagle-helper process loaded a lot of ram. But now I have found the solution:

First, is necessary to enable extended atributes for your file systems (as
beagle wiki says), to do that we add "user_xattr" in the options column of our
/etc/fstab and then remount file systems or reboot computer...

After that, and maybe the "key" of my problem (and hope yours too!) is
to exclude the TEMP directory of ed2k files (amule, mldonkey, etc.) in
beagle indexing preferences. Then cpu charge is normal.

Hello Joe,

Yes, you are right. This kind of files belong to temp directory of
edonkey p2p network programs (emule, amule, mldonkey...), they are
usually big temporary files of movies that you are downloading... and
beagled indexer daemon can't handle easily (I think...)

[Bug 32194] Startup programs are not saved...

2007-05-01 Thread murrayf
Hello,

I have found the same issue in Feisty. Besides that, I can't add new
entries in startup programs, they are not saved. The solution I have
found is to edit manually /home/"your_user"/.gnome2/session or session~
like this:

At the end of this file there are entries that start by a number and
look like this "12,RestartCommand=beryl-manager"... if we would like to
add for example, glipper as startup program after beryl load, then we
would select its position with the correspondent number + "," +
"RestartCommand=full path" (13,RestartCommand=/usr/bin/glipper), if
there is some doubt I attach you my /home/myuser/.gnome2/session and you
can see how the programs I want load in the order that I want...

At the end of session file there is a line called "num_clients="
after equal sign it is necessary to put the last number plus 1 (in the
attached file 16). Don't forget to save this file as
/home/"your_user"/.gnome2/session, if everything goes well you will see
the programs you want in the order you want after rebooting the
machine...

Alberto.

Hello Colin,

I reported this long time ago and as you says it was related to locked
processes or similar, I forgot to report in ubuntu bugs that the problem
was solved, I don't know exactly how I fixed it (maybe distro upgrade),
but probably the problem was mine, not a debconf bug... Consider it
closed, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Thx,

Alberto.

 Thanks,

Alberto.

2007-08-21 Thread murrayf
Hello Stefan,

Thank you for your info, I didn't pretend to solve everybody's

kernels can "let them manage better" firewire disks. Anyway, let's wait
for better perfomance of the new stack in future kernel releases.

Thanks,

Alberto.

"RestartCommand=full path" (13,RestartCommand=/usr/bin/glipper), if
there is some doubt I attach you my /home/myuser/.gnome2/session and you
can see how the programs I want load in the order that I want...

At the end of session file there is a line called "num_clients="
after equal sign it is necessary to put the last number plus 1 (in the
attached file 16). Don't forget to save this file as
/home/"your_user"/.gnome2/session, if everything goes well you will see
the programs you want in the order you want after rebooting the
machine...

Alberto.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest version of Firefox 3.0? Thanks in

[Bug 107322] firewire hard disk only detected at boot process

2007-04-17 Thread murrayf
Public bug reported:

I have an Iomega firewire external hard disk and I can only use it if I
connect it at ubuntu boot process, If the system is already loaded this
device is not recognized and I have to reboot to make it work. I don't
know if it's a specific problem of the hard disk or it can be extended
to all firewire hd's I detected it on edgy but in beta feisty still
remains...

Besides that, when the device is detected after boot process I can see
TWO equal icons in gnome desktop referring to the same device. I only
see this bug in beta feisty.

Thanks.

Thanks,

Alberto.

"RestartCommand=full path" (13,RestartCommand=/usr/bin/glipper), if
there is some doubt I attach you my /home/myuser/.gnome2/session and you
can see how the programs I want load in the order that I want...

At the end of session file there is a line called "num_clients="
after equal sign it is necessary to put the last number plus 1 (in the
attached file 16). Don't forget to save this file as
/home/"your_user"/.gnome2/session, if everything goes well you will see
the programs you want in the order you want after rebooting the
machine...

Alberto.

[Bug 248222] Re: firefox always starts in work offline mode even when clicked online mode

2008-10-11 Thread murrayf
Yes I confirm this error too, version installed 3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1.
Please correct this bug, it's a bit annoying to unmark offline-mode option
always firefox starts, and in preferences there is no the possibility to set
mode.

2008-11-14 Thread murrayf
Hello Colin,

I reported this long time ago and as you says it was related to locked
processes or similar, I forgot to report in ubuntu bugs that the problem
was solved, I don't know exactly how I fixed it (maybe distro upgrade),
but probably the problem was mine, not a debconf bug... Consider it
closed, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Thx,

Alberto.

[Bug 107322] firewire hard disk only detected at boot process

Public bug reported:

I have an Iomega firewire external hard disk and I can only use it if I
connect it at ubuntu boot process, If the system is already loaded this
device is not recognized and I have to reboot to make it work. I don't
know if it's a specific problem of the hard disk or it can be extended
to all firewire hd's I detected it on edgy but in beta feisty still
remains...

Besides that, when the device is detected after boot process I can see
TWO equal icons in gnome desktop referring to the same device. I only
see this bug in beta feisty.

Thank you for your info, I didn't pretend to solve everybody's
firewire troubles, my intention was to inform ubuntu users, that newer
kernels can "let them manage better" firewire disks. Anyway, let's wait
for better perfomance of the new stack in future kernel releases.
