[Bug 58904] Re: Installing new theme causes 100% CPU

2007-04-13 Thread OZ
This bug is valid in Feisty as well. So far as see even if I close the
Theme Manager window the gnome-theme-manager process still runs in the
background.

[Bug 54326] Broken kdelibs4-dev package

Public bug reported:

[Bug 158944] Upgrade tool (7.04 to 7.10) sets login keyboard layout to QWERTY US

2007-10-30 Thread oz
Public bug reported:

An upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 sets the keyboard layout of the login
screen to QWERTY US.

Users with passwords containing keys that are different in this layout
will not be able to log in.

Example: A QWERTZ DE user with a Z in his password will need to type Y instead
at the login screen. But he does not know that.
Even if one account can login, it seems not possible to switch the login
screens config without manually editing config files.
Changing passwords of the accounts will only help, if users know the login
layout and its differences to the one they get after the login and choose the
keys wisely...

I cannot provide you with files, because the users wanted me to erase
the whole system, install 7.10, recreate their accounts and restore
their home directories from the backups.

This workaround has solved the problem for me, but will not for people
without backups... and I know there are some out there.

Maybe one should file a feature request for a "back me up now!" nag
screen.

occurs only with ubuntu.

[Bug 121786] Password always wrong on first try after boot

2007-06-22 Thread oz
Public bug reported:

After boot I click on my account icon in the gdm list.
Then it prompts me for the password.
I recognized the "Num Lock" keyboard LED is lit since poweron of the computer.
When I start entering my password the "Num Lock" keyboard LED switches off.
(No, there is no "Num Lock" key contained in my password.)
I press enter to finish login, but it shows the login fails.

At first I thought I typed my password wrong for weeks at the first login after
boot, but this time I did it extra slow to be sure.
Funny is, there are other people using this computer, but they seem to not have
noticed it, yet :) They will be so annoyed when they find out, too :)

[Bug 121574] Re: nvidia X crashes whenever applications use gl

2007-06-23 Thread oz
Mr. Wheeler:
This is not a support query for three reasons:
1. X crashes.
2. It's the configuration made by the installer.
3. I do not want closed source drivers. (except the installer
recommends/installs them automatically.)

"3D support" would be nice, but I do not need it. However, if I start an
application requireing "3D support" but I have no "3D support", the
application should exit and tell me that it won't run without "3D
support". Instead X crashes.

I do not want to modify stuff manually, if I would want that I'd
installd debian or gentoo.

However, I would have queried support, if I wanted to have the problem
only solved for me. Instead I want it solved for everyone. Thats the
spirit, right?

[Bug 121574] Re: Open source nv X crashes whenever applications use gl

2007-06-27 Thread oz
The Xorg.0.log.old I posted on 2007-06-26 contains the crash dump caused by
mplayer using the vo gl and exiting fullscreen mode.
This one differs. It contains the dump from mythfrontend after changing the
paint engine from QT to OpenGL.

[Bug 121574] Re: Open source nv X crashes whenever applications use gl

2007-06-27 Thread oz
I reproduced the mplayer crash.
I did a ps and found out the binary is actually named gmplayer.
It is not enough to just exit fullscreen mode, fullscreen mode must be left by
stopping playback.
The log is a little different from the last time I used gmplayer to crash X.

** Attachment added: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (after crash, gmplayer vo gl, 2nd
try)"

[Bug 121574] Re: Open source nv X crashes whenever applications use gl

2007-06-27 Thread oz
I found more apps that cause the crash:
The game nexuiz. In fact the picture is totally scrambled, and when I manage to
click the quit and yes button in this mess it crashes X.
At least the screensaver with the 3D bubbles floting upwards. It crashes X
after testing it from the screensaver configuration app in fullscreen and then
exiting fullscreen.

[Bug 121574] Re: Open source nv X crashes whenever applications use gl

2007-06-28 Thread oz
Again: I do not want to use closed source binary nvidia driver.

I do know how to configure DRI for nvidia (I ran gentoo on that box before),
but I do not want it.
I just want other users (knowing nothing about linux, not touching anything
that needs root privileges) to be able to run the system, with default
configuration, and NO crashes.
But you guys act just like the guys from Microsoft. Telling me a thousand times
about workarounds I already know and don't want to do, instead of fixing this
bloody nv or mesa bug.

In the "Restricted Devices Manager" it says something about better
support for open source drivers. Semms like that was a lie, huh?

Think about all that people, that want to switch to open source for it
is said to be more stable. They use ubuntu as an entry point, and then
it crashes, and nobody wants to fix it.

It was hard enough getting here. This bug site is like hidden.
Look at the gentoo site: Bugs is directly in the top nav.
Look at the debian site: Bug reports are directly is in the right nav.

So I said to myself: Okay let's get this ugly crash reported, so it gets
fixed and other users won't loose their unsaved work, while trying to
play some video.

The bug is still there.

Guess what mplayer would say when no GL is available:
<$ mplayer -ao null -vo gl somefile.foo>
...
VO: [gl] 384x288 => 384x288 BGRA
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".
[gl] no GLX support present
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.
VDec: vo config request - 384 x 288 (preferred colorspace: Planar YV12)
VDec: using Planar I420 as output csp (no 0)
Movie-Aspect is undefined - no prescaling applied.
VO: [gl] 384x288 => 384x288 BGRA
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0".
[gl] no GLX support present
FATAL: Cannot initialize video driver.

FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo).

Exiting... (End of file)

See what I mean: X is still up and running. No 3D. No GL, No crash.
But instead it crashes.

Please, anybody, fix this!

It appears to me leoquant is trying to tune stats.
If thats the case, let me tell everybody, that this will only have a positive
effect on short term reputation:
When it comes out to the media, it will be bad publicity.
Furthermore in long terms this will slowly destabilize this project(s).

[Bug 121574] Re: Open source nv X crashes whenever applications use gl

2010-02-23 Thread oz
So you're saying you did not fix a bug in one of the mayor GPU drivers
for 2 and a half years, and now give up on it, because there is another,
different driver available for another release, while the bug still
exists? Fsck it. That's really poor. However, there's Debian running on
the box with closed source nvidia for half a year now.

I don't have time for reporting this to freedesktop.org . I don't care
anymore. If I get this again, I'll just try BSD. Maybe they don't have
this bug in their nv.

Re: [Bug 229879] Re: USB DVB card floods the console with recv bulk message failed

2009-06-11 Thread Oz Man
I had the same bug with Mythbuntu 9.04 and Dvico Dual Digital 4 rev 2.
I saw from another thread the opinion that it was due to the -ETIMEOUT
value which was short in Ubuntu/Mythbuntu compared to Archlinux. I
erased mythbuntu and installed Linhes (which is based on Arch). The
problem disappeared.

Bug description:
Hello, I am running Ubuntu 8.04 Server (amd64) and I have a "Devico
FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual Digital". It is a PCI-card but the second tuner is
plugged in thru USB2.
The first tuner (PCI-based) is working properly. I can tune signals,
watch livetv with it and I have not found any error messages when using
it alone. The PIC-tuner is located at "/dev/dvb/adapter0"
The second tuner is only found in cold state during boot and is not
activated. To solve that I had to download the "bluebird"-firmware from
http://www.linuxtv.org/downloads/firmware/dvb-usb-bluebird-01.fw and
save it in /lib/firmware.

When I do a cold boot with the firmware available the second tuner
(USB-tuner) is found but I sometimes receive this message during boot:
"dvb-usb: bulk message failed: -71 (2/0)". The tuner is found and
activated anyway and I see the second tuner as "/dev/dvb/adapter1" with
the same nodes/files as the PCI-tuner (demux0, dvr0, frontend0, net0). I
have not tried to use it yet.

When the computer has been online, idling, for some short random time
(typically 10-15 minutes) I start to get floods of the following error
message in the consol (typically one per second): "dvb-usb: bulk message
failed: -110 (1/0)".

If I do a warm reboot I sometime reboot fine (without error messages
shown at boottime) and sometimes with some similar error messages. I
have seen "-71", "-22" and "-110".

During a forum-search I found this tread, but it does not seams related
to my problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=373192

Bug #78949 seems to be related to this one, but its old and not for my
hardware.

[Bug 478901] Re: Random crashes in Ubuntu 9.10 - may be wireless mouse & kb related.

2009-11-09 Thread Oz Man
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I was unable to give much
detail, as Ubuntu 9.10 crashed twice while I was in the middle of
writing the bug report. So on the third attempt I wrote the minimum,
attached the syslog, and posted the report before the crash. I have
been running Ubuntu since 7.04. I have found 9.10 to be the most
unstable.

As to the information requested:

(1) Specific steps or actions? I cannot be sure what causes the crash,
but my suspicion is that it is related to the logitech wireless keyboard
(mx3200) and mouse (mx600). A mouse movement, use of the scroll wheel
or keyboard entry all coincided with crashes. I should say this
behaviour occasionally happened under 8.10, but not under 9.04 and not
to this extent.

(2) Behaviour expected? I didn't expect Ubuntu to crash and restart.

(3) Actual behaviour? There is no freeze or other behaviour. It is as
if the power was turned off. The screen goes black and the computer
restarts. There is no prior warning of any problem, no hint of any kind
that something is wrong. Just sudden black screen and restart.

BTW, I am writing this reply on another computer.

[Bug 1581205] [NEW] Inconsistent naming of application binary, package and self description

2016-05-12 Thread Oz Tiram
Public bug reported:

When clicking on the about dialog in the help menus you will see the
following message:

Files

3.14.3

Access and organizer files.

This a very dumbed down message in sake of simplicity which leaves the users
wondering which package installs this application. I don't care if GNOME dev's
want to make life harder for their users. Ubuntu should strive for a better
solution.
Binary and the source packages are called nautilus, and the binary program file
is also called nautilus.

The name nautilus itself isn't very descriptive, and maybe bad for
marketing (what does nautilus Cephalopoda has to do with files???).
However, the about dialog should refer to the name of the binary
program. It should display something like:

Nautilus File Manager

3.14.3

Access and organizer files.

This message is more helpful when searching for help about the program
itself.

[Bug 332235] Re: RAID5 partitions disappear after initial reboot

2009-05-07 Thread Willow of oz
I've experienced a similar issue before.
I had a raid 6 array that I'd built with some disks, then, after it appeared to
be built okay, I grew it onto two more disks. Alas, the first set of devices
in the array were the partitions, the other two were, accidentally, the drives.
And somehow, the last two drives AND partitions contained superblocks.

Oh, and I don't know why you have two lines in your config for md0, with
different UUIDs. You should really only have one.

So one of those ARRAY lines should go.
And you should query and then erase the superblock on the drive (NOT the
partition) (assuming there's one duplicated on both).

I'd caught my two partitions appearing sometimes just after boot, but
mdadm would quickly get all confused and eject them. I'd have to
manually kill of mdadm, partprobe to get the partitions back and then
assemble by directly specifying devices (partitions) not UUIDs, until I
realised the real problem with the duplicate superblocks.

Like @orange.brian, I'm not familiar with preseeding either and am
getting the same lib6-udeb error message. Is there a simple workaround?

I tried the sed command and was left with this error:
sed: unmatched '/'

I typed it several times just to be sure that I was getting it right.
