[Bug 1934510] Re: [MIR] fuse3 as a dependency of qemu 6.0 and GNOME apps
Please also consider software that is not inside the Ubuntu repositories, but users nonetheless want to run on Ubuntu systems. Such software may still require fuse2. For example, pretty much every AppImage in existence as of today. I think it would be reasonable to announce that libfuse2 will be moved out of main at a defined date in the future x years from now (or something like that) so that the "outside world" can prepare for such an event but not to "just do it" merely because the software inside the Ubuntu repositories can handle such a move. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1934510 Title: [MIR] fuse3 as a dependency of qemu 6.0 and GNOME apps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fuse3/+bug/1934510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1965636] Re: libfuse2 no longer included in jammy, required for AppImages
Apparently this affects most if not all flavors of Ubuntu. Especially the default flavor. The AppImage format for distributing applications is centered around the idea that a user can boot the Ubuntu Live ISO, download an application in AppImage format, make it executable, and run it without having to install anything. Not having libfuse2 and fusermount on the Live ISO breaks this for all existing AppImages out there. AppImage tooling (the tools application authors use to produce AppImages of their software) will have to be updated by the AppImage project, but even once it is, it will take considerable time until all application authors release updated AppImages of their software. Hence, asking for a defined grace period until fuse2 gets removed from the Ubuntu Live ISO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965636 Title: libfuse2 no longer included in jammy, required for AppImages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-meta/+bug/1965636/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 202039] Re: Booting from USB fails on MacBook Pro 3,1
One step closer on booting Ubuntu Live from USB on the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro (MacBookPro3,1): If you format the USB device with FAT16 and put the following file there, exactly in this place and with this name /efi/boot/bootx64.efi then a reboot with the Alt key pressed *does* show the USB device as a bootable device and there is a new icon in rEFIt for booting the /efi/boot/bootx64.efi. In theory, we should be able to use any x86_64(!) EFI application as the bootx64.efi file. In practice, I don't know whether there is a working EFI application that can successfully boot Ubuntu from USB. I tried 64-bit ELILO from http://downloads.sourceforge.net/elilo/elilo-3.8-x86_64.efi and I got an elilo prompt when I selected the new "boot /efi/boot/bootx64.efi from usb" entry in rEFIt. At this prompt, I can enter exactly 1 character (which is shown on the screen), but then the keyboard freezes. When I add a /efi/boot/elilo.conf file and specify a kernel and initrd to load, then elilo does try to load them. So elilo can definitely read from USB via EFI on the MBP. However, it then displays an error message mentioning "system.c" for a millisecond and then immediately reboots. grub-efi is another EFI boot loader, but apparently grub-mkimage only creates an 32-bit efi file (even on 64-bit Ubuntu) whereas the MBP3,1 needs a x86_64 binary. [Bug 201470] [NEW] Should be a way to mount silently (no desktop icon, no window opening)
Public bug reported: Consider this operation (done on a stock Hardy Live CD): mkdir -p ~/.tmp/mnt sudo apt-get install fuseiso # need to use fuseiso since loop-mounting seems broken on Live CD fuseiso Desktop/test.iso ~/.tmp/mnt/ In Hardy (unlike earlier versions), this adds an icon to the desktop and opens a Nautilus popup window, which I do *not* want. I hear that it is supposed to be this way ONLY if you use a mount point inside /media - but unfortunately that is not the case. Please add a mount option to mount "silently", like mount -o donotshow Another option would be that if the mount point starts with a dot, then the volume is mounted without adding an icon to the desktop and without opening a Nautilus popup window. (Globally disabling desktop icons and opening windows is *not* an option, i need a way to do this per mount point.) Use case: The klik project (klikclient.googlecode.com) packages individual applications inside ISO files. Each time you launch an application, an ISO is silently mounted, from which the application then runs. This worked fine until now, but now in Hardy the Nautilus popup windows and desktop icons are very confusing. There should be a way for klik to specify that no such icons and windows are opened. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Should be a way to mount silently (no desktop icon, no window opening) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61463] Re: Script that are using bash could be broken with the new symlink
Please revert to bash. Regardless whether they are "right" or not - many script developers have silently assumed that scripts starting with #!/bin/sh is executed by bash. An operating system such as Ubuntu is supposed to be a dependable platform for 3rd party applications to run on top of it. And since there are many (legacy) applications out there that assume that scripts starting with #!/bin/sh is executed by bash, Ubuntu "breaks" those by switching away from the "de-facto standard". Please consider the situation of a non-technical end user who doesn't care whose fault it is that his app doesn't work as expected. It is changes like this that make Ubuntu less likely to solve bug #1. -- Script that are using bash could be broken with the new symlink https://launchpad.net/bugs/61463 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
