[Bug 782953] Re: Software Center doesn't detect changes in sources until update-apt-xapian-index is ran by cron
Unfortunately I do not have a fix, I am just a power user not a developer. But the issue seems simple to me as I don't get the complexity of adding a condition: if one of the sources boxes has been ticked then gksudo apt-get update gets run when the close button is pressed. or just as simple, add a button next to revert:Update Changes which also runs gksudo apt-get update. The reason why I called this out is that this bug was logged 2 years ago, with multiple duplicates associated to it and not assigned to anyone. This issue is trivial enough if you are comfortable with the command line. But for an OS thats supposed to easy and have the average user in mind, having them choose a software source and then trying to install an app from that source and not finding that app just because the sources were not downloaded is an extremely bad user experience. Minor user issues like this (of which there are many) detract from the rest of the polish being done on Ubuntu. But the attitude of just letting them slip by and languish for years does not help the user's experience or Ubuntu/Canonical's image. I take the time to log issues and chase them up and that's the level of help I can provide. But from this interaction I don't even see the point of logging user bugs anymore. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782953 Title: Software Center doesn't detect changes in sources until update-apt- xapian-index is ran by cron To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/782953/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1044052] [NEW] Software Centre does run a list update after adding new sources
Public bug reported: This bug is based on the below question. It has been around for a while. When you add a new software source like partner repos there is no force apt-get update or pop-up asking you to update the package list. So the user goes back to software list and his packages are not there. Running apt-get update solves the problem, but it shouldn't have to be done. Only way to get the packages updated via gui is to either install synaptic or hit dash and launch software updater, neither of those to options should have to be done. As stated in the documentation, mention below, there should be a dialog to update the packages. Please could this dialog be replaced. I added a new repository to my apt sources list using the Ubuntu Software Centre. But I didn't found how to update the list. The package on that new repo didn't appear on the searches. I had to go to the terminal and issue the apt-get update in order to find and install the package. Reading the Ubuntu documentation I found: (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu#Adding_Ubuntu_Software_Repositories) «Adding Ubuntu Software Repositories (...) Select Close to save your changes. A dialog box should appear, asking whether you'd like to update the list of repositories. Select Reload to update the list.» This didn't happened! Hi Kamal, kernel looks right: 3.2.0-26-generic #41+kamal2~DellXPS-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 20 20:25:04 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I only created the 10-evdev.conf file and made modifications to the InputClass so that we could simulate scrolling by pressing and holding right click and then scrolling. No other modifications made. I just deleted the 10-evdev.conf file completely and rebooted. Now touchpad works again. [Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces
HI All, I can confirm as well that the flicker issue is fixed. Another old bug that I logged about it https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz- core/+bug/937700). But I too have a similar issue as Achim. This issue has actually been around for a while, hoping it was related to the flicker issue. When I try move and app to a different desktop, while in Expo mode, the mouse and the app moves but the app does not move in relation to the mouse. For instance moving the mouse 5cm will move the app 10cm in the same direction. Doesn't happen all the time, kind of like Achim, when I mouse the mouse quickly. This same issue also occurs with snapped windows while not in expo mode. I logged a bug about this quite some time ago (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/937665) Is this related? [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
I suggested the exact same thing due to this other bug: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/781931/comments/31 TOO MUCH CLICKING! Apps and menus should follow mouse over focus. Will fix many issues. I use fullscreen apps a lot. This is how I would prefer it: Default: Fullscreen apps should always show global menus. Do not hide. Minimized apps should have the menus locally integrated, less distance to travel to get to menu! Optional: Hide global menus non-locally integrated menus on minimized apps The highest foreground app must by default grab focus Any app you move your mouse over must get Menu focus, don't bring to foreground though! interacting with the focused app will bring it to foreground, like keyboard input. [Bug 781931] Re: New windows are moved to front but don't take focus
Id like to suggest a solution. I find that since Unity and global menus I tend to do a lot of clicking on the app somewhere to gain focus then activate the correct global menu. I seem to be clicking a lot more than before. Also when you close an app the next app below does not have focus either. Click on it again and now you have focus. Why not auto focus to the below app? Could we instead have an option to have windows follow mouse focus? It solves a few problems: Nautilus opens and has focus under your mouse closed apps immediately give background apps focus any app you move your mouse to activates the desired global menu and hud It's already intuitive as I often have a terminal window in the foreground with scrollable text in a window below. But just mouse over the background app and scroll wheel scrolls the text. I also use the mouse focus option in terminator, wherever the mouse is is where the focus is. [Bug 874241] Re: Wrong resolutions in lightdm login screen when using external monitor connected to laptop
Yeah I happened to notice the exact same thing today. I have REALLY unstable sessions when having dual monitors plugged in. [Bug 969233] [NEW] 12.04 - terminal apps become inaccesible when snapped to the bottom half of the screen one 2nd monitor
Public bug reported: The following problem occurs when performing these steps and conditions: multi-monitor setup with primary screen on left with resolution of 1920x1080 and secondary screen on right with resolution of 1600x900: open terminal app, either terminator or gnome-terminal using either screens launcher snap window to bottom half of screen using ctrl-alt-2 at this point terminal app looks like it has foreground focus. click on terminal app, immediately it looses foreground focus and you end up with having the terminal open but clicking on whatever is below it, whether it's the desktop or an application below it. you can't type or click anywhere on the app. To gain access to the window as a workaround I can try move to another desktop and back again but causes some other strange issues. opening a new app and playing with different apps focus seems to eventually jog the terminal back into use. I have attached a video of this, also note that when i do move to another desktop and back again the window appears on a different monitor. when i try grab that app with alt, left click and hold the app, it essentially disappears off the screen as there is an issue with where the relative location of the app is. I have logged a similar issue like this here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/937665 but so far no-one has attended to it. Note due to the resolution size totem won't play the video but despite vlc complaining it does play it in the end ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: compiz 1:0.9.7.2-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-17.27-generic 3.2.6 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-17-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.scope.cities: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/tmp/unity-scope-cities' .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 1.95-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, decor, imgpng, snap, move, compiztoolbox, unitymtgrabhandles, vpswitch, gnomecompat, regex, resize, place, grid, mousepoll, session, animation, workarounds, wall, expo, fade, ezoom, scale, unityshell, scaleaddon] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Fri Mar 30 15:26:42 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.1.10, 3.2.0-17-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Alpha amd64 (2029.1) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 912446] Re: Allow an independent context menu
I get why you would have contextually relevant menus, not a bad feature. But I would like to suggest that a simple compromise be this: if you have selected files, while holding ctrl or shift and right click anywhere in the window, then the correct menu for selected files should appear. otherwise if you right click in any empty space that context menu appears. It is really frustrating to loose a bunch of files selected by right clicking on an empty space. An empty space you have been clicking on for the last 10 years. on all kinds of OS's. it's the expected behavior. But what i also have to say is. For a long time I have wished for the feature that I can create a new folder or file without having scroll down and find empty space. That I like. But please just add, if files are selected and ctrl or shift is down, bring up copy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912446 Title: Allow an independent context menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/912446/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Sebastien Thanks, I have updated my original bug to reflect the extra info and that it's not a duplicate of this bug. Would you be able to confirm that I have supplied all the required info? [Bug 956934] Re: 12.04 Unity Video Lense uses up all disk IO when indexing
I have been using it over the weekend, and the problem actually seems worse. process now runs continuously as soon as it's activated. not at 98% disk IO but at least 50%. May I ask what it's doing? [Bug 956934] [NEW] 12.04 Unity Video Lense uses up all disk IO when indexing
Public bug reported: This issue occurs upon boot and when attempting to open the Unity video lens. The process: python /usr/lib/unity-lens-video/unity-lens-video uses all available disk IO causing full system performance decrease and application hangs (grey outs). 98-99% IO while monitoring with IOTOP. This happens for about 5 minutes on boot without clicking on the lens and once that has completed it starts to happen again when you click on the lens. The lens does not even work during this long process. This is most likely exasperated by the widely experienced kernel disk IO and scheduling bug which has been ongoing for some time now. Some improvements have been made but I'm not sure if they have all been imported into the latest stable Precise kernels. I suggest that the video lens should not be installed by default as normal users will not understand why their PC is freezing for no reason. Can anyone else confirm this issue or is it specific to my PC and amount of files. Takes about 5-10 minutes for the system to become usable again. Then the Video lens once again provides search results. [Bug 870404] Re: When navigating Dash by keyboard, sometimes titles with no function are incorrectly focused
I agree, there was a point when it was a bug and pressing down once did not indicate where the cursor is, but for a while now it has highlighted the Applications bar. The problem with your mockup comes in when you have multiple programs found that require to be expanded. You can't have the applications expand where files are, it must be kept separate. I have a very simple solution to this problem. Navigate application and file icons with the arrow keys and navigate to the title bars with TAB. It's already cycling through them when you hit tab, so why not just disable arrow keys from navigating to the title bars? So type f in the dash, whole bunch of apps, files and music comes up. one arrow key down takes you to the first found application, another down arrow takes you to the first found file, next down arrow takes you to the first found song. Similarly, typing f in the dash and then hitting TAB takes you to the applications title bar, pressing enter reveals more options, hitting arrow down takes you to the expanded list of found apps. Hitting tab again takes you to Files and again takes you to Music So NEVER navigate title bars with arrows and only navigate them with tab. Solves all issues as far as I can see and reduces tapping of keys. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870404 Title: When navigating Dash by keyboard, sometimes titles with no function are incorrectly focused To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/870404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
