On a functional level perhaps it is worth considering whether Network
Manager, on stopping, should simply leave the interfaces as currently
configured instead of taking them down. I can make the argument that
Network Manager is a tool to make it easy for the user to control
network interfaces, but Network Manager is not the owner of those
interfaces, the system and user are. If the user makes a connection using
Network Manger and then disables NM, why shouldn't the interface stay
up until the user or a shutdown sequence takes it down?

Good point. However, an argument could also be made that if a user uses
Network Manager to set up and establish the network connections, the
user expects Network Manager to own and manage those connections. A
logical extension of this expectation is that, when Network Manager is
shut down, it takes its connections with it. If the user wants a more
permanent connection, then the user should set up the connection
manually. At least, that's the way I would expect things to work.

[Bug 606837] [NEW] devtmpfs is not a valid filsystem under Ubuntu 10.04

2010-07-18 Thread rancor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tiger

I got this error message from tiger --CONFIG-- [con010c] Filesystem
'devtmpfs' used by 'none' is not recognised as a valid filesystem

The script that is reporting this is gen_mounts in folder
/usr/lib/tiger/systems/Linux/2/

I created a patch witch removes the error message, however I don't know
if it creates any other unwanted side effect but it seems to work.

Running tiger version 3.2.2, 2007.08.28.00.00

@A. Walton: No, it's not the same problem.

Just go to Places, then Home Folder and click on Open the parent
folder (big yellow arrow pointing upwards). Try to get to root-folder /
without moving the mouse between the two clicks you will have to do go
get from /home/username.

2009-04-03 Thread rancor
@Sebastien Bacher: I don't know how to create this issue. I just
upgraded 8.10 to 9.04 on three machines and two of them have this
problem, the other works fine. I haven't tweaked anything manually. The
only thing I can think of is that the machines has been upgraded several
times. 8.04 - 8.10 - 9.04

I will be happy to answer and make other changes to test what's wrong if
somebody gives me questions or instructions

[Bug 348126] [NEW] ssh are using ssh-userauth but ignores private key

2009-03-24 Thread rancor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openssh-client

I'm using ssh-add to load a private key but it's used and ignored by
ssh, see verbose output ssh.txt.

I think this is the most interesting part:
debug1: Offering public key: /some/path/private-key2.txt
debug3: send_pubkey_test
debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply
debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 276
debug2: input_userauth_pk_ok: fp snipp
debug3: sign_and_send_pubkey

It works if I'm using ssh -i /some/path/private-key2.txt but not from
agent. It also worked with the agent before I upgraded to 9.04

[Bug 348126] [NEW] ssh are using ssh-userauth but ignores private key

2009-03-24 Thread rancor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openssh-client

I'm using ssh-add to load a private key but it's used and ignored by
ssh, see verbose output ssh.txt.

I think this is the most interesting part:
debug1: Offering public key: /some/path/private-key2.txt
debug3: send_pubkey_test
debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply
debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 276
debug2: input_userauth_pk_ok: fp snipp
debug3: sign_and_send_pubkey

It works if I'm using ssh -i /some/path/private-key2.txt but not from
agent. It also worked with the agent before I upgraded to 9.04

[Bug 282325] Re: nautilus-sendto doesn't support Obex Push file transfer since intrepid

2009-02-26 Thread rancor
Can't send files using Dell XPS M1210 to a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone,
same problem Obex Push file transfer unsupported. Has paired the
phone and bt-device before I tryed to make the transfer.

One issue I found before was the short time out between I could enter
the PIN in the phone and the time out in the computer. I had to try
several times before I even could make them a pair.

There is something very wrong here

How could I assist with more usefull information?

Regards rancor

Upgraded to 9.04 witch has 180.x driver default and it's working
perfect. I did not manage to upgrade 8.10 to new driver, X did not work
propertly.

There must be as Alex Murray say, that there was a bug in older Nvidia
driver 17x that was corrected in 180.x

2009-02-22 Thread rancor
Yes, it's still an issue. I can't enable Visual Effects because of the
annoying bug of the window decoration. I tested today again but it's
still there. If I turn off the effects it's okey.

I'm using version 177.82 of the Nvidia driver. I will try to upgrade to
an never but unsupported version to see if the problem exists there.

[Bug 287192] [NEW] Can't importing an OpenPGP key to launchpad.net

2008-10-21 Thread rancor
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to import my OpenPGP key to launchpad.net but either the
instructions are wrong or there is something with the standard pgp
package shipped with Ubuntu 8.10 beta fully updated.

The instructions says:
-
Change your OpenPGP keys

You can register your OpenPGP keys, which are created by software such as
GnuPG. These are used to sign codes of conduct, modify bugs through the email
interface, and to build and upload packages using Soyuz.
Importing an OpenPGP key

   1. Ensure you already have a key. In a terminal window, enter:

  gpg --list-keys [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you have no key, create one:

  gpg --gen-key

   2. Ensure the key has been uploaded to a keyserver. To do this:

  gpg --send-key key-id

   3. Enter your key fingerprint. Use:

  gpg --fingerprint key-id

Number 2, gpg --send-key XXX gives me this message in the terminal:
gpg: no keyserver known (use option --keyserver)
gpg: keyserver send failed: bad URI

[Bug 89263] Re: no update-notifier in xubuntu default install (was: no updates shown in system tray on xubuntu)

2007-08-11 Thread rancor
I haven't written a single line of C since school but I hope there is a
security and user friendly coder out there what will fix this security
issue. There are still a lot of low performance computer that needs XFCE
or similar window manager with users that are not skilled enough to
patch their system. They need something that rings the bell and tells
them to update.

[Bug 89263] Re: no update-notifier in xubuntu default install (was: no updates shown in system tray on xubuntu)

2007-03-22 Thread rancor
I thanks every body for the help and time spent on my bug.

Dear Jani.

I think this is very important issue due the security risk of a
unpatched system and I think a big portion of the responsibility leis at
the developers of the OS and in this case the Xubuntu team.

I'm sorry that I don't have the knowledge of helping you to build a
native XFCE application for this purpose.

It must not be advanced as update-notifier but some how just give the
users a notification to run Synaptic if there is important upgrades
available.

Regards rancor

[Bug 89263] Re: no updates shown in system tray on xubuntu

2007-03-21 Thread rancor
I looked and there was no update-notifier installed. I used Synaptic and
installed it.

I thought this was supposed to be a standard utility to insure that the
system was up to date but I have only used Ubuntu before, not Xubuntu.
Maybe Xubuntu does not include this app by default?

In Xubuntu the Synaptic is not shown in system tray then new updates are
about to be installed.

I have it checked to update every day and also download but not install.
I have never been asked to install updates and I must check manually.

[Bug 89263] Re: Synaptic is not shown in system tray

2007-03-02 Thread rancor
There was no file called 15adpet-periodic

Full list of files in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/
  * 01ubuntu
  * 05aptitude
  * 10periodic
  * 50unattended-upgrades
  * 70debconf

adept is not installed. I did not know that I had to install it.

I installed Xubuntu Herd2 from CD and have updated to this point and I
have never got any notification that I have to install it.

I did got a message box that I should check Synaptic and mark automatic
updates in repositories and I thought that it would fix the problem.

This may be a thing to add to Xubuntu by default?!
