[Bug 162701] Re: pidgin freezes while typing a message
This bug is also related to pulseaudio. You can demonstrate this by killing pulseaudio, which makes all applications that use sound work normal again. It's quite sad to see no progress on making pulseaudio handle this kind of situations. See somehow related bugs #226692, #230837. Next time you encounter the bug try following: $ pidof pulseaudio 6163 $ kill -9 6163 ...and to restart pulseaudio type Alt+F2 ... pulseudio It's an ugly workaround, but it works at least for me. ** Also affects: pulseaudio Importance: Undecided Status: New -- pidgin freezes while typing a message https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162701 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 213206] Re: SoundMAX AD1988B- no digital audio
Hi guys, Have you tried to adjust the volume slider marked as IEC958 or IEC958 Capture (they are the same...). This can be done from volume control application, just remember to choose alsa mixer. This worked for me, and I have Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard (which in my knowledge uses ADI AD1988 chip). I get sound through coaxial and optical. Oh, and I'm using latest hardy (2.6.24-21-generic). -- SoundMAX AD1988B- no digital audio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213206 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 230837] Re: Pulseaudio stalls and prevents other applications from starting
I have one confirmation on this bug. My friend have experienced this bug several times since his upgrade to hardy. For him it usually happens when he tries to start firefox. This bug is quite critical for him, because he's a non-technical person and this bug prevents graphical system shutdown, so he has been forced to do cold boots on his machine. I'm going to change status to confirmed. Hopefully now this bug gains the attention it certainly deserves. @Chen: I'm not quite sure how to check interaction with native ALSA apps. All I can say is that there is no sound coming from already running applications. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Pulseaudio stalls and prevents other applications from starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230837 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 230837] Re: Pulseaudio stalls and prevents other applications from starting
By stalls I mean that it doesn't respond anymore. Actually I'm quite sure about the responding thing because I can't start any applications to confirm it. It doesn't die, because I have to kill it to get my system working. Pulseaudio doesn't block all applications from starting. It seems that only applications that need some kind of audio are affected. Some applications (e.g. gnome-terminal) will start just fine, but the window of the application will remain empty until pulseaudio is killed. I have no idea how to debug this bug. There seems to be no extra information in any log files. This bug is also hard to redo because I can't pinpoint the cause. Usually it occurs when I close mythfrontend and start rhythmbox, but not every time. -- Pulseaudio stalls and prevents other applications from starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230837 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 226692] [NEW] pidgin hogs all system memory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pidgin Basically the bug is that pidgin goes mad and takes all available memory on my pc. This has happened a couple of times now. Second time, which was today, I noticed that there appeared message in dmesg, saying that pidgin has invoked oom- killer. [Bug 161873] Re: xvideo mode does not always work
I've been having this kind of problems too. The problem appears exactly as described above. Very randomly xv mode playback gets heavily distorted (attachment). Running Nvidia restricted driver (nvidia- glx_1.0.9639+2.6.22.4-14.9_i386). I've noticed that this bug usually appears after a long uptime. [Bug 172946] Re: Distortion in left channel audio, when using SPDIF I/O port
I installed the backports-modules and it seems that the bug is fixed by the new 1.0.15 alsa-driver. Thank you for the fast reply, everything is now working as it should be. Although, I had some problems after installing the package. For some reason my alsa-utils crashed and messed up the file in /var/lib/alsa/alsa.state. After this I wasn't able to play PCM through spdif. I found a solution for this problem from the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=445536. The page offered a workaround which fixed the PCM playback... However, this bug is now closed because the new alsa-driver fixed the distortion problem. [Bug 172946] Distortion in left channel audio, when using SPDIF I/O port
Public bug reported: When I connect my stereo equipment with my computer, audio plays just fine, but sound coming from the left speaker gets distorted. Notice that the sound coming from right-speaker sounds just fine. I'm using integrated s/pdif-outlet to connect to my stereo. Motherboard I'm using is ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe and it has an integrated s/pdif-outlet, which is controlled by AD1988B HD Audio CODEC.
