[Bug 1851250] Re: [snap] chromium-browser snap cannot upload files outside ~
This affects me too after upgrading from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 and I fint it COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. The use of symlinks from /home to data on larger drives (which are shared between windows and linux systems, and not unix FS) is industry standard since over 30 years and this regression is atrocious. I will remove the snap and install the .DEB until it is resolved. My root disk is too small for the files i need to upload so a symlink to the storage drive which is permanently mounted in fstab under /datasjoe is necessary. The implication you have also broken access to removable media by default is likewise idiocy, any user is right in assuming he/she can acess theyir usb drves anywhere in their desktop system. Think again. please? [Bug 576602] Re: Fancontrol relies on the module load order
This affects me too on Asus z97P, since at least ubuntu 13.10 (when I bought this system). I sometimes hear fans not spin down after booting, and have been "rebooting until success" for the last 7 years... lucky it isnt too often I get the wrong order, maybe once in 10 boots or so. Since adding a new GPU recently made this problem worse, and I needed the it87 driver compiled from unofficial sources to support my board (IT8606 chip) in 20.04, I stumbled on this bug via the lm-sensors github. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576602 Title: Fancontrol relies on the module load order To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lmsensors/+bug/576602/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1863946] [NEW] Can't start the service with systemd

Executing: /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install enable softflowd Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/softflowd.service → /lib/systemd/system/softflowd.service. if you look into the softflowd.service file, it just calls /bin/true for start and stop. When you use the multi-instance version the configuration file doesn't match to the systemd unit. 1.) the path is /usr/bin/softflowd instead of /usr/sbin/softflowd. It seems this is changed between 0.9.9-3 and 1.0.0-1 and was not updated. Additionally, the variables for $interface and $options are lowercase in the systemd unit file and upper case in the configuration file. [Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record
I think I found the culprit: https://bugs.isc.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=45540 It boils down to a bug in the isc-dhcp-client. It doesn't correctly react to time synchronization events and therefore simply breaks in situations where time jumps "backwards" and the lease time in the network is relatively short. In my case I "fixed" the bug by removing the package isc-dhcp-client. The NetworkManager now uses its internal dhcp client which doesn't support as much features but at least works in my situations without breaking the network connection. ** Bug watch added: bugs.isc.org/Public/ #45540 https://bugs.isc.org/Public/Ticket/Display.html?id=45540 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1586528 Title: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avahi/+bug/1586528/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space
@dmcnutt USB disks show up here just like other disks in "df", so that's normal. /dev/dm-0 is most likely an encrypted partition. /boot cannot be in an encrypted partition because you need it for decryption. If the disk was just one big encrypted partition, you'd need to boot on a USB stick or something in order to decrypt it. If you install ubuntu on a disk using disk encryption (for example ext4), then you don't need to separate /boot on a separate partition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/798414 Title: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/initramfs-tools/+bug/798414/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space
@dmcnutt /boot is usually a separate partition, byt default around 250MB, which is way too small. Use command "df" to see how much space you have left on each partition. if /boot is nearly full, it doesn't help if / has loads of space.
Completely agree with @grey - it is unacceptable that such a simple thing will consistently create problems for ALL ubuntu users, many of which will not be comfortable with entering "sudo apt-get -y autoremove" or whatever in terminal. I do understand the issue though - each kernel is a separate package, and as such, apt can't just uninstall it without asking. So I suggest that as default, instead of linux-image-generic depending on the latest kernel package, create a new pakcage, perhaps called "linux-image-generic-current", which does not /depend/ on the latest kernel package, but /is/ the latest kernel package (or a copy at least). This way. when a new kernel is released, this package will get a new version and the kernel will be downloaded and *replace* the old one. There may be a catch here, but I am sure if there is someone knowledgeable will tell me :) It's important that this is the default, as less knowledgeable users will then avoid the issue without having to do anything. Yes, I know that this way, you can't boot on an older kernel. This is rarely an issue though, as most people don't do that. For the few cases it is needed, maybe one could add another package "linux-image-generic-previous" for the second to the last version and/or "linux-image-generic-original" for the first kernel to be released for the current version of Ubuntu? Of course it's completely possible for a user to install one specific kernel separately, which they can use in case the latest one can't boot. For people who genuinely needs the current way of always retaining the previous kernels, linux-image-generic could continue to be maintained as well as linux-image-generic-current, and either of the two can be installed, but not both. I believe this is possible with apt? I also suggest the default boot partition size to be 5% of total disk space, min 250MB (current default), max 2GB. But no matter how big you make it, eventually it will run out of space anyway, so only increasing the size of the /boot partition is just delaying the issue. Alternatively, can a cron or startup job be set up as default (on all new installations of Ubuntu), that runs "apt-get -y autoremove", perhaps only for linux-kernel packages (if possible) at boot or every month or so?

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption
OK, soon gsoc will start again. Maybe it can used to find someone who will implement OTR in telepathy. Does anybody has good connection to telepathy/gnome/fdo developers to ask if they would provide a mentor for such a project? What really annoys me about the otr integration in telepathy is the lack of information you get. People (e.g. jprvita, McVittie) come and go. Someone never hear something again about the project and the status. There are some questions in my head. Something like, is the approach of jpvita usefull for furher devlopment. If it's useful, what needs to be done to finish it? I think it would be useful to have a wiki page with such kind of informations. I can't believe that nobody is willing to code on this, so the question seems to be what keeps developers away from coding on this or vice versa what incentives must be given that someone is willing to work on otr implementation. P.S. Don't get me wrong I don't want to blame anybody with this post. [Bug 943195] Re: xpdf.real crashed with SIGSEGV in GooHash::hash()
Hello people. It's been a while since the last update. I must say that I've been trying to apply the patch in Quantal but there are others problems with libpoppler (which is a higher version than precise) that I can't fix. I've been tracking updates in Debian's bug report, but seems like this problem *is not a trivial fix* and is completely out of my Kung-Fu. [Bug 788626] Re: Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long
I have a temporary workaround until this issue is fixed. It seems indeed that it occurs on encrypted home directories, so the solution is to move the files away from that. Note that the files you move away from your encrypted home directory are (obviously) no longer encrypted... Anyway, this worked for me (execute in terminal): # 1. exit Transmission (properly exit) killall transmission ps aux | grep transmission | grep -v grep # should yield nothing # 2. move the resume directory (where transmission keeps the resume files) to a non-encrypted directory: mv ~/.config/transmission/resume /tmp/transmission-resume # 3. make a symbolic link from the original location to the new one: ln -s /tmp/transmission-resume ~/.config/transmission/resume Obviously, it's also a good idea to *save* these files with long file names in a non-encrypted directory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788626 Title: Error: Unable to save resume file: File name too long To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/transmission/+bug/788626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 953586] Re: Rhythmbox does not properly retrieve tags for multiple CD albums.
I also experience the problem described by ricotz0; it appears, however, that, when the second disc has more tracks than does the first, the correct track list is not produced. Instead, the list is the same as the first disc's but extends to the beginning of the second disc when it runs out of the first disc's tracks. Since my first disc had 8 tracks and the second 9, the last track on the second disc was shown to be what should have been the first track on that disc. I'm trying to create images for the two discs in Dan Fogelberg's The Innocent Age. The last track of the second disc should be Ghosts but is listed as Stolen Moments. Also, the play times appear to be copied from MusicBrainz instead of being generated by rhythmbox (a surprise to me). The barcode for The Innocent Age is 07464373932. Rhythmbox is 2.96. PICARD's list contains the tracks on both disks. Track numbers are distinguished by either a 1-track# or 2-track#. Unfortunately, I have to join in here. I just upgraded to Kubuntu-11.10 and Digikam no longer works with my PowerShot A2000. Great! It's stuff like this that makes me more and more nervous about upgrading any Ubuntu system at all. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Precise Pangolin. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. [Bug 954979] Re: sudo apt-get install pidgin require gnome packages in lxde
Fane, why do you think the bug was *fixed released*?. I don't see any changes in the changelog/diff files [1] that fix this issue. Pidgin pulls a lot of *Suggests dependencies* where not in a Gnome DE. The is and Opinion bug and should be marked as so. Regards. [Bug 954979] Re: sudo apt-get install pidgin require gnome packages in lxde
When you do sudo apt-get install pidgin Pidgin (like many, many others packages) will recommend you a lot of GTK dependencies if you don't have a Gnome DE (Desktop Environment). This is because the package should integrate much better with those package. To avoid this behavior and just install the package with his *dependencies* and no 'Suggests' (in debian/control file) dependencies, run this: sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends pidgin I'm marking this bug as Opinion since it's not a really bug. [Bug 947643] Re: In Precise, Pidgin creates a second icon in the launcher when opened by dash or HUD
Hi 8200. You're right. Clicking the quit option in the launcher should exit the opened instance of pidgin, but it doesn't. A quick way to quit it is to click the quit option in Buddies menu to properly exit pidgin. Please file a new bug report against pidgin. [Bug 947643] Re: In Precise, Pidgin creates a second icon in the launcher when opened by dash or HUD
I've just downloaded another precise iso, installed updates and tested this bug, but I can't reproduce it this time. Jorge, could you please try to reproduce it after applying updates (if available)? [Bug 947643] Re: In Precise, Pidgin creates a second icon in the launcher when opened by dash or HUD
Jorge, I think this is the normal behavior of pidgin in Unity. When using the close button, the instance will remain opened. You can confirm this by going to the mail notification button, and you'll see the little arrow showing that pidin is open. To completely close pidgin, go to Buddies menu and choose Quit to close it.
