[Bug 53879] Re: kppp menu entry should launch as root by default

2009-11-02 Thread samjh
Hi,

I have changed the status of this bug to "Confirmed", due to this thread on
ubuntuforums.org:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1311845

The bug has been tested by me and the result is the same as the OP of
the ubuntuforums.org thread linked above.

[Bug 345190] Re: "/bin/sh: permission denied" when building code with Qt Creator in Jaunty

For me this doesn't occur when using Nokia's installer, but it does
occur when using the qt-creator package.

[Bug 372668] [NEW] No Help Feature in Qt Creator

2009-05-06 Thread samjh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qt-creator

In Qt Creator, there is no help feature available.

To reproduce:

sudo apt-get install qt-creator qt4-doc

Open Qt Creator, click the Help icon in the left-hand vertical toolbar.
Help windows are completely blank. No contents, no index, nothing.

Unsure of what to do, I tried to configure the location of the help
files manually via the Tools -> Options -> Help -> Documentation
setting. When I tried to add /usr/share/qt4/doc/qch/qt.qch as
registered documentation, Qt Creator returns an error: "The file
/usr/share/qt4/doc/qch/qt.qch is not a valid Qt Help file!"

I've already attempted reinstalling qt-creator and qt4-doc. I have also
installed all recommended and suggested packages for qt-creator as well
as the qt4-doc-html package (just in case).

[Bug 179473] Re: Missing controls on Mozilla VLC plugin

2009-02-20 Thread samjh
I can confirm that this is still an issue with mozilla-plugin-vlc 9.4 in
Ubuntu Intrepid.

According to this mailing list thread, it seems that controls for the Mozilla
plugin is yet to be written, or that a HTML page must explicitly include code
to allow the Mozilla plugin to display appropriate controls:
http://mailman.videolan.org/pipermail/vlc-devel/2007-October/035322.html

In the meantime, you can use keyboard controls:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=535636
But beware that the plugin responds *very slowly* to the input. Pausing a
video takes a second or two. Seeking forward/reverse can take more than
several seconds, or even just freeze the screen and not respond at all. I've
given up on the Mozilla vlc plugin, and have resorted to just downloading the
media to play it using the GUI vlc instead (there are some Firefox add-ons
which allow this, like DownloadHelper).

Not a satisfactory situation, but I think this is a case of Do-It-
Yourself.

[Bug 316199] Re: PA Sound Preferences mutes Front speaker volume by default

2009-01-12 Thread samjh
Thanks for the update, Daniel.

I don't have enough download quota for another CD, as I'm testing this
week's Lenny build as well and that download has taken up nearly all of
my quota. Hopefully someone else can provide the information you seek.
If it assists your team, I installed Jaunty roughly 32 hours ago and do
not recall any pulseaudio-related updates since then (though I could
have just missed seeing them).

Could you describe what the code changes actually do?

PS: I do appreciate the difficulty of volunteering one's time to do
development. Please do not take my previous posts as expressing disrespect or
becoming unappreciative of your commitment. This goes for all devs, testers,
and supporting personnel.

In my last post "changes" in the final paragraph mean changes to the

I hope this isn't going to be another bug relegated to the final hours
prior to RC or final release, or even worse... never fixed.

2009-01-12 Thread samjh
Well, I'm not happy with the status and importance either. However,
Daniel T Chen is a member of the audio integration team, so I presume he
has better judgement than me.

It certainly is not a "Wishlist". The behaviour is definitely not
normal in comparison with current and previous Ubuntu and Debian
releases.

It certainly isn't "Incomplete". My Jaunty system is less than 24 hours
old, so unless changes have been built into today's LiveCD or uploaded
into the Jaunty repos, the behaviour I and others have been experiencing
is current and not the result of an outdated package or configuration.

Daniel,

I don't understand your post. Do you mean that the volume control is
supposed to be like the old one with individual channel controls, or the
newer "simplified" version? I've attached a screenshot of the volume
sound preferences applet on my up-to-date system.

[Bug 316199] [NEW] PA Sound Preferences mutes Front speaker volume by default

2009-01-11 Thread samjh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

On Jaunty Alpha, PulseAudio's Sound Preferences applet has the "Front"
speaker volume set to MUTE by default.

This is not desired behaviour as a large number of users depend on their
front speaker volume being unmuted in order to hear audio. For such
users, the current default setting prevents audio from being heard,
leading users to believe that their sound system is broken.

See forum thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1036868

A workaround for this is to (Gnome):
1. Right-click on Sound Preferences applet icon (usually located on the
far-right of the top panel).
2. Select Preferences.
3. In the pop-up window, select Front, and click Close.
4. Left-cick on Sound Preferences applet icon.
5. Set volume to other than mute.

[Bug 255528] Re: language-support installs thunderbird-locale

Confirmed.

Xubuntu 8.04.1

I discovered this when I was removing thunderbird-locale-en-gb. It
wanted to remove language-support-en and language-support-translations-
en. I removed thunderbird-locale-en-gb anyway (also removing the
language-support-en and language-support-translations-en packages).
Then when I tried to reinstall the language-support packages,
thunderbird-locale-en-gb got installed again!

I can't imagine why any of the language-support-* packages should be
dependent on thunderbird-locale-*.

[Bug 152277] Re: vim-runtime (Gutsy): ada.vim with syntax errors

2007-10-24 Thread samjh
Until a permanent solution is found:

Go to http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1609 and download the
latest .vba archive.
As of time of writing, it is vba-4.5.0:
http://www.vim.org/scripts/download_script.php?src_id=7686

Save the vba file to a place of your own choosing.

Fire up the vimball archive tool with superuser privileges. Example:
sudo vim ~/temp/vba-4.5.0

The vimball archive tool will open. Issue the so % command, thus:
:so %

It will install the Ada tool package for vim, including the correct
syntax high-lighter.

Same problem with ASUS P5B series. Installed on PATA HDD (Primary)

Rebooting using Live CD, cannot find HDD in /media directory. Sysguard
