I have nearly the same issue on a System 76 Starling (star5), where the batter indicator just displayed "estimating..." indefinitely, however if I click on "estimating..." it brings me to the Power Statistics app, where it displays the amount of energy remaining just fine. I think this error is related somehow to qtparted. The reason why I think that is this: when qtparted is started and when I click on the disk (/dev/sda), qtparted tries to read partition info (ntfs,xfs,xfs,fat32,ntfs) and then crashes.
