information on the version you were using?

[Bug 228415] Re: Update download speed is incredibly slow for connection

2008-06-09 Thread tadowguy
Me too.

I am using Intrepid and update-manager is so slow that I've completely
given up on it. Compared to apt-get from the command-line, I'd have to
say that update-manager is 10x slower if not more. It took over an hour
to download 14 normal sized packages. Although I can't get you exact
details on what I was downloading and the speeds (right now), I can
guarantee that it's awfully slow. This is also seen by my co-workers,
and I should note that we are all behind an http proxy server (again,
though, apt-get is fast).

If there are any tests I can run to compare the speeds, like downloading
dummy packages, I'd be happy to oblige.

[Bug 227946] [NEW] cd //; pwd -- shows // when in root directory (/)

2008-05-07 Thread tadowguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bash

Today I accidentally typed this:

cd //

I was amazed to see that my prompt showed me as being in the //
directory, which was functionally equivalent to /. The pwd command also
shows //. Bash is correctly handling the case of /// and which is
as far as I tried. This is not really harmful, but strange. zsh for
one handles this properly. I did not try tcsh.

[Bug 219289] [NEW] upgrading sun-java packages breaks alternatives

2008-04-18 Thread tadowguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sun-java6-bin

This morning I upgraded to all the sun java packages to 6-06-0ubuntu1.
After the upgrade, all my java-related alternatives (java, javac, etc)
had reverted back to gjc. This is annoying and I think that the
alternatives should either stay where they are set to or it should ask
before it resets them all.

[Bug 219294] [NEW] xterm segfaults if more than 9999 scroll lines

2008-04-18 Thread tadowguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

xterm is segfaulting whenever I use more than scroll lines. I was
previously using 5 lines of scrollback and it worked fine, but now
it's broken. I would have to guess that it broke with the latest
version (229-1ubuntu1) because it has previously worked for me.

I am running 229-1ubuntu1, I will try to run an older version and see
what happens.

Here is the command line I've used for testing, although the colors
don't seem to matter:

xterm +vb -sb -sl 5000 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold -- Works
xterm +vb -sb -sl -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold -- Works
xterm +vb -sb -sl 1 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold -- segfault
xterm +vb -sb -sl 10001 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold -- segfault

I will also try to get a core dump and update the bug.

[Bug 219294] Re: xterm segfaults if more than 9999 scroll lines

2008-04-18 Thread tadowguy
Two notes:

1) I cannot seem to get a core file. The program is crashing as
follows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xterm +vb -sb -sl 5 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold
Segmentation fault
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo $?
139

I have looked all over for the core file and I have apport installed
as I found mentioned in the Wiki. It's not in /var/crash either.

2) The bug title is now inaccurate. xterm seems to like some values and
not like others. For example:

1 - works
10001 - segfault
10002 - segfault
9993 - segfault
9992 - segfault
 - segfault (sometimes)

I will run this under gdb since this is getting more and more odd.

[Bug 219294] Re: xterm segfaults if more than 9999 scroll lines

2008-04-18 Thread tadowguy
More notes.

1) I ran run this under the same args and sometimes it will fail and
sometimes succeed. I am killing the window after each run, so I am not
showing hundreds of windows (and so I'm not out of memory).

In this example, you see the same ags and they fail, then work, then
fail!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xterm +vb -sb -sl 10001 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold
Segmentation fault
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xterm +vb -sb -sl 10001 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xterm +vb -sb -sl 10001 -bg black -fg red -fn 7x13bold
Segmentation fault

2) I noticed that this keeps showing up in .xsession-errors when there
is an error. Unfortunately, I'm more of a systems programmer (think
commandline), so I'm out of my element on what this means:

X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 19
  Minor opcode: 0
  Resource id: 0x3800010

** Summary changed:

- xterm segfaults if more than scroll lines
+ xterm segfaults randomly

** Description changed:

+ UPDATE: The fault seems to be totally random since the same args can
+ succeed sometimes and will segfault on others. See the 2nd comment
+ below.

[Bug 208397] [NEW] some package names break --include or --exclude regexp

2008-03-28 Thread tadowguy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debmirror

I was trying to include the package called bonnie++ and the ++ portion
of the name is breaking in the regexp handler code. The --include
argument is specifically for regexp and not specifically for direct
package names, but in my case, I keep a file with a list of packages I
need and now I will have to scrub the package list. Another solution
might be to accept a new argument called --include_package_name which
did not use regexp.
