[Bug 820865] Re: pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss
Extra comments: A) This happens only when trying to cut folders (files work fine). B) This happens only when trying to paste them on a destination folder without write permission on an external usb drive (local target folders work fine). NB: When I say "it works fine" I mean that, after receiving the message "permission denied" on cut&past as described, the original copy is just kept as expected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820865 Title: pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcmanfm/+bug/820865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 820865] [NEW] pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss
Public bug reported: 1. create a folder on your desktop for example ~/Desktop/test/ 2. mount an external usb on which there's a folder on which you don't have write permission for example /media/usbdisk/nowrite/ root:root 755 3. cut your folder on the desktop & paste it on the usb folder using the gui, which simply means: - right-click on the folder "test" on your desktop and choose "cut" - use pcmanfm to go to the usb folder and right-click on it and choose "past" 4. A window with the progress bar will open with an error on it saying "test: Error creating directory: permission denied" After that the original folder "test" on the desktop disappears, and of course there's no copy on the target folder. As a consequence you loose your original folder and all data in it. The original folder is removed while the error window is shown, the removing process doesn't wait for the user to press the close button on that window. Tested with: - pcmanfm 0.9.7 on lubuntu 10.10 - pcmanfm 0.9.9 on lubuntu 11.04 - pcmanfm 0.9.9 on ubuntu 11.04 here's the discussion on ubuntuforums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1817738 ** Affects: pcmanfm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: cut-paste folder lubuntu pcmanfm write-permission -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820865 Title: pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcmanfm/+bug/820865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 692771] [NEW] [Ubuntu Maverick] Users and groups panel doesn't show the "Encrypt home folder to protect sensitive data" if one doesn't click on "Encrypt my home folder" during installation
Public bug reported: Hello, as said in title if someone installing a fresh new copy of Ubuntu Maverick doesn't click on the "Encrypt my home folder" during installation, because it's not needed for the first user, then using the "Users and groups" panel under System > Administration menu to add new users there's no way to encrypt their home folder (of new users) because there's no option "Encrypt home folder to protect sensitive data" to check when clicking the "add" button as you can find instead if you choose to encrypt the first user home folder during installation. I think that the option "Encrypt home folder to protect sensitive data" might be always available on users and groups panel because it can happen that it's not needed to encrypt home during installation and then after some time it could be needed to encrypt a new user home folder. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/692771 Title: [Ubuntu Maverick] Users and groups panel doesn't show the "Encrypt home folder to protect sensitive data" if one doesn't click on "Encrypt my home folder" during installation -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 535602] Re: adding acl option to fstab affects the gnome gui behavior
Hello! Sorry I missed your previous messages .. in the meanwhile I switched to maverick and I can confirm you the bug is still there. 1. adding a line in fstab with uuid, as for example UUID=3c5149ef-6ad0-4e86-99af-577386565507 /media/dati ext3 users,exec,acl,noauto,errors=remount-ro 0 1 will produce to have the label of the volume ("dati" in this case) listed twice under the places menu, with different icons one at very top place under "computer" with an icon like /usr/share/icons/Humanity/devices/48/drive-harddisk.svg and the other at the very bottom place with an icon like /usr/share/icons/Humanity/devices/48/drive-removable-media.svg Clicking on the first will produce an error like: title in italian (my language): "Impossibile montare «dati»" which means "It's impossible to mount «dati»" and body in english: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: mount point /media/dati does not exist so this could be a translation bug too. Clicking on the second one will produce an error whole written in italian: title "Impossibile montare «dati»" body "mount: il mount point /media/dati non esiste" which means "It's impossible to mount «dati»" and "mount: the mount point /media/dati doesn't exist". 2. specifying the dev partition number in fstab instead of its uuid, as for example /dev/sda7 /media/dati ext3users,exec,acl,noauto,errors=remount-ro 0 1 will produce to have the label of the volume listed only once as expected under the places menu, which is the first one of the previous described, but still clicking on it will produce to have the same error described above (the one with two languages). Creating a folder under /media like cd /media sudo mkdir dati sudo chown root:users dati sudo chmod 750 dati will solve any problem and the volume is mounted with acl activated. In conclusion the bug is still there but you can easily bypass it by: a. fstabbing using /dev/sdxx instead of uuid b. creating a mounting point under media However I think this could be easily fixed as well, because it would be good: a. to use uuid in fstab b. to have automatically created and deleted the mounting point when mounting or unmountung a device using the gui I think this is not an urgent bug, but it would be nice to have it fixed too in my opinion. [Bug 246790] Re: EasyCrypt 0.2.2.10 doesn't see TrueCrypt 6.0a
Same here with easycrypt 0.2.3.1 on ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. I can confirm there is no way to use this tool on lucid. Here is my experience: 1. installed easycrypt 0.2.3.1 1. installed truecrypt 6.3a and rebooted no way to make a new crypt. On opening the info window right-clicking on easycript tray icon you can see a message as "truecrypt not installed" though it is. 2. uninstalled truecrypt 6.3a and installed 6.2a and rebooted resulting in the same thing as described at previous point. 3. uninstalled truecrypt 6.2a and installed 5.1a and rebooted. Now opening the info window right-clicking on easycript tray icon you can see a message as "truecrypt found version 5.1a" but no way to make a new crypt. Same behaviour as described by the reporter: nothing happens on clicking the "new" button after having filled the password fields. Strange is that after having done this if you try to exit the icon you receive a yes|no prompt like "easy crypt still has the crypt opened. The crypt will be closed if if you close easy cript. Are you sure you want to close easy crypt?" though nothing happens if you cick on "open the crypt" under the icon menu. There's no more old version available on truecrypt website to download. I tried to found an old version of easycrypt without luck. So no way for me to use easycrypt on lucid However typing $ truecrypt in a terminal it's still possible to manage encryption through the truecrypt console but it's not so easy as easy crypt I guess :) Cheers -- EasyCrypt 0.2.2.10 doesn't see TrueCrypt 6.0a https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246790 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 576254] [NEW] lucid lynx doesn't encrypt home folders
Public bug reported: I've done a fresh new installation of the final release of Lucid Lynx on an empty partition. Release: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Gnome: 2.30.0 Kernel: 2.6.32-21-generic My system is unluckly affected by the "blank screen bug" see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/546578 Motherboard -> Intel D850GB (Garibaldi) cpu -> Intel Pentium 4 - 2.0 GHz graphic card -> ATI Radeon 9250 128 MB DDR RAM -> 2.0 GB 1024 MB (2x516) RIMM SAMSUNG 800 MHz 1024 MB (2x516) RIMM SAMSUNG 800 MHz I installed lucid creating an admin account checking the home encryption option. Once finished the installation l logged in and created other users, some of them with the command sudo adduser fou --encrypted-home others with the gui User settings tool under System > Administration > Users and groups and checking the encryption option. In my experience in none of them home encryption is working. Here is my test: 1) logged in as admin user (first user created while installing) 2) switch user to a supposed encrypted user (both using the user switcher panel applet or the indicator applet session) 3) switch back to admin and try to reach the encrypted user data using an interactive sudo session and all documents are correctly decrypted (as the encrypted user is logged) 4) switch again to encrypted user and terminate its session (both using the user switcher panel applet or the indicator applet session) 5) log again back to admin (already opened session) and find through an interactive sudo session that all the encrypted user data are still decrypted! Only 1 time over 10 tests I found them encrypted. 6) any time I found them encrypted I rebooted and logged in again as admin user (first user created while installing) and found the encrypted user data still decrypted! A few clarification: - encrypted users are testing users created with admin / desktop / personalized privileges - the interactive sudo session I use is both: a. press alt+f2 and type gksu nautillus and cd with the root window to /home/user b. or open a terminal and type sudo -i and cd to /home/user Maybe this is concerned with the mentioned blank screen bug, as it seems through forums that other lucid users, not affected by this bug, can correctly encrypt their home folders. Maybe sessions of users affected by the blank screen bug cannot be closed or suspended properly. A last note: using sysinfo tool Xorg version is signed as unknown. On rebooting the folder is not mounted, opening cryptkeeper will create the icon tray but the new encrypted folder won't be listed. As I would like to add acl support everytime a partition is mounted by any user, I tried to add acl option to fstab by adding the following line: UUID=580214b3-c7b1-4d3e-bc91-acb1c08d4793/media/dataext3 acl,users,noauto,errors=remount-ro01 but this affects the gnome gui behavior. Behavior of the gnome gui before adding the fstab line: 1. No mountig point (folder named data) is required under the media folder to mount the device; once mounted by clicking on the upper menu Places > data, you will find a folder named *data* under the media folder (containing the mounted device) which will be automatically deleted after unmounting the device by right-click on its desktop icon and selecting *unmount*. 2. The name of this not-removable device labeled *data* is listed only once under the upper menu Places and clicking on it will produce an *authentication required* to mount it. Behavior of the gnome gui after adding the fstab line: 1. Clicking on the menu Places > data will produce an error like Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: mount point /media/data does not exist until a folder is created under the media folder to be used as mounting point. This folder used as mounting point won't be deleted after unmounting the device by right-click on its desktop icon and selecting *unmount*. 2. For the presence of this folder (mount point) the name of *data* will be listed twice under the upper menu Places and clicking on one of them will produce to mount directly the device without the *authentication required*. $ uname -a Linux loyola 2.6.31-20-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 09:05:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux $ sudo apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installato: 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3 Candidato: 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3 Tabella versione: *** 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com karmic-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- adding acl option to fstab affects the gnome gui behavior https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535602 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 284162] Re: network-manager, missing icon on the system tray or notification area after switching to a different user
Hi, I did a search and found a few duplicates of this bug and I marked them as duplicates of this one only becase they are newer. But bug #284596 seems to be more followed (it has more people declared affected, more people nominated, more subscribers and so on): is it more correct to mark bug #284596 as a duplicate of this one (bug #284162) because it's newer or viceversa mark this one (bug #284162) as a duplicate of bug #284596 because it's more followed? -- network-manager, missing icon on the system tray or notification area after switching to a different user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 284162] Re: [intrepid] network-manager, missing icon on the system tray or notification area after switching to a different user
Thank you for your suggestion: I've already done it I'm the number six :) Sorry if I wrote my opinion which in fact is irrilevant as you say for degug action. Understood :) I will use other media as forums for my comments in the future. I was too angry before to think before acting and I would like to apologize my behavior because indeed I thank the developers community for all their efforts and time spent to offer all of us free staff :) -- [intrepid] network-manager, missing icon on the system tray or notification area after switching to a different user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 284162] Re: [intrepid] network-manager, missing icon on the system tray or notification area after switching to a different user
same problem here for ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala: only the first user who logs in will have the icon which is invisible to others who log after. no solution found: solved by installing another network manager (wicd works fine for me) In my opinion developers of nm must ask to the developers of wicd how to solve the problem and in the meanwhile developers of ubuntu must consider the idea to replace nm with wicd for future realeses. I wasted a lot of time trying to make an applet woking while there's another one just working fine! It's obvious to me that a fresh install must be fully working as much as possible! So give nm up and replace it with any working applet like wicd to avoid future users to loose their time on a very old and well known no-solvable bug!!! http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/2591/ I'm very angry to have wasted my time over this :| -- [intrepid] network-manager, missing icon on the system tray or notification area after switching to a different user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
