[Bug 1742713] [NEW] Move mesa-vulkan-drivers from Univers to Main and install by default in Ubuntu 18.04
Public bug reported: A Vulkan related bug was filed at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vulkan/+bug/1742711, but in a related note, having mesa-vulkan-drivers moved from Universe to Main and installed by default in Ubuntu 18.04 is crucial. Vulkan has gotten mature and since the OpenGL drivers are installed, it will very complimentary. Having this available will aid game developers and users who load up a Vulkan application and get errors. They may not know to enable Universe in their Software Manager and to manually install mesa-vulkan-drivers for their video card. They may just load up that Vulkan application, find out it doesn't work, and then give up on it. We cannot have that for future adoption of the API. Plus, GTK and Qt are adopting Vulkan and applications like Gnome MPV are implementing experimental support for Vulkan. For Ubuntu being a leader for the desktop and a base for GNU/Linux gaming, shouldn't it be painless for Ubuntu 18.04? Especially since it is a long term release for 5 years. ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: mesa vulkan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742713 Title: Move mesa-vulkan-drivers from Univers to Main and install by default in Ubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1742713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1742711] [NEW] Move Vulkan packages from Universe to Main
Public bug reported: As of January 2018, the Vulkan packages (libvulkan1, libvulkan-dev, vulkan-utils) are currently in the Universe repository instead of Main for Ubuntu 18.04. Since the Vulkan packages are in a mature state and with future GTK and Qt development looking to adapt Vulkan, it would be important to have the Vulkan packages available. This change will affect game developers the most as they will know that Vulkan will be available to them for future development. There has been a lot of movement in Mesa 13.3 and above with the RADV driver where it has matched and exceeded the non-free alternatives. It is essential to get improved Vulkan support for GNU/Linux in general as we have finally had a great alternative to OpenGL. If possible, the movement of mesa-vulkan-drivers out of Universe as well would be a HUGE benefit. Especially if mesa-vulkan-drivers is installed by default in Ubuntu 18.04 bringing in full support for Vulkan. This is helpful especially since Ubuntu 18.04 is a long term support release. ** Affects: vulkan (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: mesa vulkan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742711 Title: Move Vulkan packages from Universe to Main To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vulkan/+bug/1742711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1704229] [NEW] Potential of creating a pypy-pip package using this source
Public bug reported: There are currently packages for "python-pip" and "python3-pip" in the repositories, but can you please consider adding a "pypy-pip" package as well to be in line with the "pypy-setuptools" package? I ask because it would be nice to have pypy added to the python plugin for Snapcraft and as of right now, the only missing package is "pypy-pip" as there are already "pypy-dev", "pypy-pkg-resources", and "pypy-setuptools" packages. Since Snapcraft only supports Ubuntu 16.04 and above, we may only need to build "pypy-pip" for Xenial and above. Please let me know if this is possible as I would love to see a greater adoption of PyPy. [Bug 1584359] [NEW] Why is this package in multiverse?
Public bug reported: When looking at the Debian changelog at http://metadata.ftp- master.debian.org/changelogs//main/c/chocolate-doom/chocolate- doom_2.2.1-2.1_changelog under "chocolate-doom (2.1.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium" they state that the package has moved from contrib to main to fix a prior bug. When comparing to the Ubuntu packages, this means that the chocolate- doom package for Ubuntu 15.10 and above should be moved to either main or universe due to Debian moving it from contrib to main. Why is this labeled as multiverse (non-free) to begin with? It is licensed under the GPLv2 meaning that it should be as free as it gets. [Bug 1561262] [NEW] Please replace this package with nvidia-364
Public bug reported: The Nvidia 361 drivers are known for performance regressions and issues with a handful of games. [Bug 1142780] [NEW] canPlayType for Opus audio reports as "maybe" without actual playback
Public bug reported: When checking if Chromium has Opus audio support, I went into the console and typed acheck = document.createElement("audio"); followed by acheck.canPlayType("audio/ogg; codecs=opus") which gave me "maybe" for the response. This can be confusing since some detection scripts look for maybe or probably and use that response as the browser supporting that codec. I have chromium-codecs-ffpeg-extra installed and I don't know if the Opus support is waiting to be integrated by Google themselves or if it is dependent on the ffmpeg tied to the Chromium browser in Ubuntu. If Google isn't having Opus support until a later version, is there any idea when it will be? If it is not possible with versions of Chromium suppored on Lucid and up, why is it reporting as "maybe" ? ** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: audio ffmpeg opus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1142780 Title: canPlayType for Opus audio reports as "maybe" without actual playback To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1142780/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1099003] Re: VLC 2.0.5 won't work with Opus. Please include libopus0 from n-muench PPA
I think including in precise-backports would be a good start in helping the adoption of this excellent and important codec for users and especially developers and AV professionals. Firefox 15 and above includes native playback of the codec and Chromium/Google Chrome will support it in an upcoming release. It is also the audio codec in the WebRTC standard and it can't hurt having it available in backports just in case an app wants to use it. Precise is supported for 5 years and it is imperative that we don't slow down its adoption as a potential Vorbis replacement. Heck, you could even import the packages and sources from https://launchpad.net/~opus-developers/+archive/stable into precise- backports and call it a day. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099003 Title: VLC 2.0.5 won't work with Opus. [Bug 1099003] Re: VLC 2.0.5 won't work with Opus. Please include libopus0 from n-muench PPA
I think that is very unfair considering that VLC advertises Opus as an included codec and the Ubuntu repository version that auto updates through apt does not include it. People will have to be forced to hold back their updates or manually select a version of VLC from a PPA. Opus works fine on Precise and that PPA is proof. On top of that, can't this be added to the precise-backports repository? That repo is there for a reason and Opus is a great candidate if you refuse to put it into the main. What is the real harm in adding a few packages to the repository? Seriously. How can VLC be advertised as an all-in-one media player if the Ubuntu team handicaps it intentionally? Especially if it is to be supported for 5 years and decisions like this can potentially handicap an open and patent free audio codec's adoption. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099003 Title: VLC 2.0.5 won't work with Opus. [Bug 1099003] [NEW] VLC 2.0.5 won't work with Opus. Please include libopus0 from n-muench PPA
Public bug reported: Recently VLC for Precise has been updated to 2.0.5, which is the latest version available. One of the big draws of VLC 2.0.4 and above was the inclusion of Opus audio support, yet the libraries to play them are not available in the Precise repositories. Opening any Opus file gives an error that there is no suitable decoder. Currently the Opus package (libopus0) is only in Quantal and above. The 2.0.5 version of VLC seems to be based off of the PPA at https://launchpad.net/~n-muench/+archive/vlc which includes libopus0 backported for Precise. I have used 2.0.4 from this PPA in the past and Opus files and audio streams worked perfectly. Another issue I have is when I updated to 2.0.5 from the Precise repositories with libopus0 installed from the n-muenich PPA, Opus playback no longer worked. I am guessing the 2.0.5 version built for Ubuntu doesn't take Opus into consideration when the 2.0.4 version from the n-muenich PPA did. Since this is a big issue with this version of VLC, it is VERY important to include libopus0 in the main Precise repositories so VLC is no longer broken. ** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: libopus0 opus vlc -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099003 Title: VLC 2.0.5 won't work with Opus. [Bug 983189] [NEW] Oneiric and Precise builds crash on startup after setting fullscreen resolution
Public bug reported: When running ZSNES on Oneiric or Precise in windowed mode, there is no problem running the games at all. When I select a fullscreen mode, quit the program, and try it up again, the program quits on start. This issue does not happen if I left it in windowed mode and only when set in a fullscreen mode in the settings. Downgrading the package to the Natty build does allow ZSNES to run in fullscreen mode all the time, but the update manager constantly wants me to upgrade to the package for my current distribution. Is this an issue with these specific builds that can be fixed? What changed in the builds from Natty to Oneiric that could have caused this issue? [Bug 968832] [NEW] 11.2 gives a missing plugin error but built in Chrome plugin fine
Public bug reported: 11.2 r202 of the Adobe Flash plugin from Canonical Partners does not load correctly on 10.04 and above and gives a "missing plugin" error in Chromium and in Firefox. If a user installs Google Chrome and uses the built in plugin, the Flash plays as it should. I also tested creating a symlink to the libgcflashplayer.so file so Firefox and Chromium can use it, and it played without issues. Even renaming libgcflashplayer.so to libflashplayer.so and placing in the /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/ had Flash movies playing as they should.
