[Bug 1901894] [NEW] One or more monitors turns off but system usable until monitor orientation change
Public bug reported: I'm having random lockups, sort of. When this happens, usually one monitor out of 3 (including laptop display) will turn off (one of the external monitors) sometimes both external monitors. Usually I can spawn new applications and the system is usable but if I try to detect the displays again or if I undock, all remaining screens go blank (normal) but don't return like usual. I'm unable to change to a new virtual console so all I can do is reboot. Sometimes I'm able to do a soft reboot (with power button), other times I have to hold the power button to do a hard shutdown. I'm not sure if it's related but I get this error in dmesg: [1.001281] BERT: Error records from previous boot: [1.001281] [Hardware Error]: event severity: fatal [1.001282] [Hardware Error]: Error 0, type: fatal [1.001283] [Hardware Error]: section type: unknown, 81212a96-09ed-4996-9471-8d729c8e69ed [1.001284] [Hardware Error]: section length: 0xc20 [1.001285] [Hardware Error]: : 0201 01002001 . .. [Bug 1834224] [NEW] grub change timeout not working
Public bug reported: after updating /etc/default/grub and running update-grub or update-grub2 the changes do not do anything. The settings changed are: GRUB_DEFAULT="0" GRUB_TIMEOUT="0" GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT="0" GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true I have mucked about with the settings above and they seem to do nothing to /boot/grub/grub.cfg When I change the 30 second timeout there after reboot I do see a change. [Bug 165521] Re: font variants information ignored
Ran into what seems to be this bug just now. I'm running 0.91 on OS X. I have four "Futura Std" styles installed: light, medium, heavy and bold. They all show up in Font Book and LibreOffice just fine. In Inkscape 0.91 only light, medium and bold are available. I also note that for the latter of the four the "Text and Font" menu shows "CSS: Bold, Face: Heavy", though I don't know if that means it is confusing the two. It is the bold variant I'm seeing. [Bug 1604313] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking
This bug is still in 16.04. I seem to be able to work around this issue by closing the display while in the bug. Let the display orientation update so only the external monitor(s) is turned on, then undock the computer and finally open the display and close it again. But undocking the computer with the display open and then trying to make the computer sleep will always make it lockup so that the cursor is the only thing that's responsive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604313 Title: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1604313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1654299] [NEW] Bootloader fails to install, then installer crashes
Public bug reported: Tried to install (from a USB stick) to an external HD connected via USB3, on a machine that has an internal SSD with existing installations of Windows and Linux Mint, and an existing Grub bootloader on /dev/sda (and, subordinate to that, a Windows bootloader on its own partition /dev/sda2 and a Linux on /dev/sda3, not sure about these numbers). [Bug 1604313] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: system freezes instead of suspend after undocking
I have the same laptop and am experiencing the same bug. I have tried upgrading to 4.8.0-30-generic but that does not fix the problem for me. I did try and turn off all monitors except the laptop monitor before undocking and that allowed me to put the laptop to sleep. [Bug 1618267] Re: RTL8821AE abruptly halts all network traffic
With the router in pure 802.11G mode, the interface just barely hangs in there. When I run SpeedTest.net, ping times go through the roof, the test sometimes gets stuck without completing, and the results are very bad. Oddly, ping reports no dropped packets. Just severely delayed ones. However, the interface does not halt completely like it does when the router is in Mixed mode, and I am able to continue using it, seemingly indefinitely. I am running these tests with 6 feet of open air between me and the AP. For comparison, some of the better WiFi clients in the house approach the full 70/70 cabled connection speed, without even being in the same room as the AP. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1618267 Title: RTL8821AE abruptly halts all network traffic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1618267/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1618267] Re: RTL8821AE abruptly halts all network traffic
Now for the WiFi bug report on the new BIOS: The problem didn't go away, as expected. They wouldn't ship a machine without working WiFi. This is clearly a Linux specific problem, which is why I'm reporting it in the first place. If a BIOS flash somehow fixes a bug that only occurs on Linux, the bug should not be considered fixed. If the Windows driver is able to work around a BIOS issue, so should the Linux driver. sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 1QCN32WW 08/18/2016 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1618267 Title: RTL8821AE abruptly halts all network traffic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1618267/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1618267] Re: RTL8821AE abruptly halts all network traffic
For others who come across this report, here are some crucial bits of information about upgrading the BIOS on this machine: 1. Download the Windows BIOS update from the Lenovo support website. 2. Install innoextract (apt-get install innoextract) and use it to extract the MS-DOS flash utility inside. 3. Get a pre-built FreeDOS image from https://www.chtaube.eu/computers/freedos/bootable-usb/ and write it to a USB drive as instructed. 4. Mount the FAT partition on the USB drive (e.g. sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt) and copy the flash image to the drive (e.g. sudo cp app/1QCN32WW.exe /mnt/). 5. Unmount (e.g. umount /mnt), reboot and mash Fn+F2 to get into the BIOS. If the system refuses to reboot, pull out the USB drive (MBR boot records seem to make the BIOS hang if it's not in Legacy Support mode). 6. Change Boot Mode to Legacy Support. 7. Exit and save changes. 8. You should now be able to boot FreeDOS. Stick with the defaults in the boot menus. 9. Type DIR to get a list of files. 10. Run the flasher utility (e.g. 1QCN32WW and return). 11. Let it do its thing. 12. You might get an Access Denied / Invalid Image error at this point. Don't panic! Your computer is not bricked. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and mash Fn+F2 to get into the BIOS again, disable the Safe Boot option, then Exit and save changes. 13. Your system will now boot again. If you're installing Ubuntu on this system, I suggest you keep Safe Boot disabled all the time. It seems to cause nothing but trouble.
I will perform the upgrade, but first, a message to Canonical: The tone in these canned responses and pages feel somewhat patronizing. You get the distinct feeling they were written by a person whose patience and good manners have been worn extremely thin. They have successfully delivered the relevant information, but they have also successfully insulted me for having the audacity of filing a bug report without having flashed my BIOS first, because apparently, this is considered bad "etiquette", and I should know that my filthy BIOS is "buggy, insecure, and outdated" and how dare I even show my face around here without taking care of such an obvious thing first? Testing on the mainline v4.8-rc3 kernel, the first thing that happens is that the NIC dies before I can even use it. I'm facing a very similar or identical issue. I'm on a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad 110 with the same RTL8821AE wifi chip. WiFi works at first but dies after a couple of minutes. With 5 GHz disabled and 2.4 GHz set to Wireless-G Only mode, the laptop's WiFi works, but everything is really slow. Hi Christopher, and thanks for the instructions for updating the BIOS - although not fruitful, the thought was appreciated. With a Windows To Go installation I was able to update to v1.09 without any dual-booting or similarly. Not surprisingly, dmidecode returns the expected data: Version 1.09 and 07/30/2014. Christopher, thanks for your follow-up. I've installed the linux-image for v3.17-rc6-utopic (Linux thor-lincoln- library 3.17.0-031700rc6-generic #201409211935 SMP Sun Sep 21 23:37:11 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux), and removed my workaround before rebooting the system. However, the symptoms are unchanged and identical (to the best of my current experience). [Bug 1371786] [NEW] Touchpad doesn't work unless middle-click is constantly pressed (on an Elantech touchpad, in a Fujitsu H730)
Public bug reported: Issue: Using a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.10, I discovered that the touchpad did not work. Steps to reproduce: Install Ubuntu 14.10 on a Fujitsu H730 and attempt to use the touchpad. Further description: However, I stumbled across bug #1300427, where there was mention of both a workaround and a fix in a newer kernel. I have been able to use the workaround -- which is basically limiting the protocol of the psmouse module, such that I remove and load psmouse with proto=exps. After this, a bit further in time, I accidentally managed to click with the touchpad. It appears that the touchpad strangely enough works quite well as long as I hold down the middle click button. While holding it down, the touchpad seems to work rather well - including multitouch features. The joy is short, as it registeres no input while depressed. Things tested: Due to the comments in bug #1300427 I've tested the mainline kernel version 3.17-rc5-utopic, and the only impact I recall was how the right-click button now also worked while pressing middle-click on the touchpad. [Bug 1300427] Re: [Fujitsu Celsius H730] Touchpad does not work on with Ubuntu 14.04
I hope in my changing of this bug's status I am not breaking any correct path of resolvement, as I can confirm the same bug happens on the same model in my case. [Bug 1166442] Re: Elantech clickpad/touchpad lacks multitouch features.
Regarding comment #137 and its effect, I feel it is worthwhile mentioning that the ldtarball does not work for the ElanTech touchpad within the Fujitsu Celsius H730. There, the touchpad does not _work at all_, unlike here where multitouch features are a miss. There's bug #1300427 for that issue though, but these two seem somewhat related. Re: [Bug 1348010] Re: psmouse serio1: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 6
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of a regression, and when this regression was introduced. If this is a regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the commit that introduced the problem. Unfortunately no: the client is brand new and was installed with a fresh image of 14.04 today. Per an added comment of mine on bug #1300427, I've tested with mainline kernel builds with only one difference regarding the Touchpad. *Based on pure guessing and assumptions, it does appear that the issue started for the few other users I've found after upgrading to 14.04, but that's only heresay from my part and without any firm ground what-so-ever.* 2014-09-16 23:45 GMT+02:00 Joseph Salisbury joseph.salisb...@canonical.com : Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? [Bug 1304001] Re: xen:balloon errors in 14.04 beta
http://marc.info/?l=xen-develm=135939492007293w=1 This option is incompatible with PCI hotplug. This is a known problem. We recommend Canonical disable this option as does upstream. From that note: Inside dom0, yes? Looking at the balloon driver, it doesn't seem to handle dom0 (or domUs with PCI devices passed-through) very well because it doesn't check the memory map before attempting to hotplug additional memory so it ends up overlapping a region that is already reserved. This is is particularly common if you booted Xen with dom0_mem=max:MMM as the host's memory beyond MMM is still in dom0's memory map (marked as UNUSABLE). Since this I've had this issue occur both on 12.04, and 12.10 (and on Mint 14), so this is still an issue. [Bug 979481] [NEW] Grub will not install, system will not boot
Public bug reported: Initial installation was 10.10 upgraded to 11.10. Worked well until upgrade to 3.0.0-14 kernel then would not boot and had to resort to previous kernels. This was the case for -15 and -16 kernels. But when -17 was installed suddenly the Nvidia drivers wouldn't work and it became impossible to boot into any previous kernel. Tried a new side-by-side installation of 11.10 on the machine. But it fails to install grub no matter where I tell grub to install to. [Bug 954918] [NEW] Missing Server input box for Sametime accounts
Public bug reported: Hi, It is no longer possible to connect to sametime server because there is no Server input box undir Sametime accounts. This happened recently and according to a freedesktop.org bug report this happened when libpurple was upgraded from 2.10 to 2.10.1. Here is the explanation from the freedesktop.org bug report: With the latest version of libpurple (2.10.1) a change was made to the Sametime protocol: + Sametime: - Separate username and server when adding new Sametime accounts Although at first this seems harmless and only affecting the pidgin client, it seems that telepathy-haze can not handle this separation. When a new account is created for Sametime, the server details are no longer displayed. Also an old account (that has all the details already) no longer works due to the same issue. Adding the missing parameter to the accounts.cfg file (mission-control) causes that this parameter is ignored and removed. Returning to libpurple 2.10.0 resolves the issue and the server can be identified again when the account is created. - Raymond Wooninck https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44631 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: empathy 3.3.90.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-18.29-generic 3.2.9 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.94.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Mar 14 11:02:27 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: empathy UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-12 (1 days ago) ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/954918 Title: Missing Server input box for Sametime accounts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/954918/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 872209] Re: Cannot change display resolution or detect secondary display
Hi, It's sort of solved. After an update later on I was able to output to a VGA so I can now use Dual head. I am not able to use DisplayPort, however, but I do believe that a bug report has been made for that issue. I guess this one can be closed then. Thanks! [Bug 817749] Re: josm is in the wrong category in the Software Centre
Well I would do it if I knew how since this grew from an ubuntu distro issue to a debian distro.
