[Bug 1458327] Re: Compiz on Ubuntu Mate 15.04 fails on DELL XPS 13 (9343) with external monitor
#Jason: strange that you say the issue persists, because it seems solved in my case! When reporting the bug I had on my DELL XPS13(9343) installed UbuntuMATE 15.04. I have now upgrade to UbuntuMATE 15.10 (kernel 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu x86_64) and both the external monitor issue and the suspend issue are gone: Using the MiniDisplayport-to-VGA/HDMI adapter (see orig. post) I tested both an external VGA and a HDMI monitor (the latter actually a DVI monitor DELL U2412M connected via a HDMI-to-DVI converter). I tested all 3 Window Managers (Marco, Metacity and Compiz). And every time I also tried suspend. In all 6 combinations both internal + external monitor and suspend worked! There was one glitch, though. Sometimes, when using MATE Tweak to switch from compiz to metacity the screen freezes. Mouse pointer is visible, but nothing can be clicked. I can do CTRL-ALT-F2 and login, and e.g. kill Xorg, and it continues. [Bug 1479817] [NEW] Libreoffice stalls presentation on 3-liner text block in 15.04 but not in 14.04 and not in 12.04
Public bug reported: I have a presentation originally created in Libreoffice Impress, which stalls at a certain slide. This slide has a three-line text block to be shown via user defined animation by a mouse click. However, when clicked, this text block is NOT shown, and furthermore, the whole presentation stalls, i.e. any further clicks do not result in showing further elements/pages. The full presentation could be run successfully on every Ubuntu computer I tried it on, and with various versions of libreoffice, and even runs on Windows computers after converting to the powerpoint format. The exception is my latest DELL XPS13 laptop with Ubuntu 15.04, where the stall happens. I was successful in removing almost everything from the presentation and still show the problem in a very simple presentation, basically consisting of the problematic slide only (plus 2 dummy slides). This demo presentation is attached. After the presentation is started, the first click shows the vertical, arrowed line, the second should zoom up the textbox, but does not. Strangely, when the third line of this text box is removed, it works. This demo was tested on the following systems: 12.04.5 LTS, kernel 3.13.0-58, working ok 14.04.2 LTS, kernel 3.19.0-25, working ok 15.04, , kernel 3.19.0-25, NOT working (tried with Cinnamon, Gnome Flashback, MATE desktops) Libreoffice in all cases is 4.4.5.2 40m0(Build 2) . When in the 15.04 kernel example libreoffice is started via the command line, the following output is printed in the terminal once after starting the presentation on first slide, and then the THIRD click is made: ullix@xps13m15:~$ libreoffice test3line.odp ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Unknown event notification 38 ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Unknown event notification 38 ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ** (soffice:4253): WARNING **: Invalidate all children called ullix@xps13m15:~$ ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: test3line.odp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1479817/+attachment/4436222/+files/test3line.odp -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1479817 Title: Libreoffice stalls presentation on 3-liner text block in 15.04 but not in 14.04 and not in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1479817/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1458327] [NEW] Compiz on Ubuntu Mate 15.04 fails on DELL XPS 13 (9343) with external monitor
Public bug reported: The DELL XPS13 (9343) came with Ubuntu 14.04 factory preinstalled. But it has too many bugs to be useful. In the meantime I have upgraded to Ubuntu Mate 15.04 (Vivid) with kernel 3.19.0-18-generic. The laptop has only a Mini-Displayport connector. So I use an adapter for VGA and HDMI, a no-name 3-in-1, model# 27391 from German company CSL. When the window-manager is Marco (Simple desktop effects) then I do get a connection to an external monitor as it should be. However, Using Marco results in a failure when resuming from suspend. (see bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1454651) When I use the window-manager Compiz (Advanced GPU accelerated desktop effects) I get a proper resume from suspend, but connecting an external monitor results in a black screen on both the internal and external monitor. I can still see the mouse pointer moving across both screens, but no desktop, no menus or anything clickable. Same problem for both an external VGA or an external HDMI connection. [Bug 1456585] Re: 14e4:43b1 DELL XPS 13 (9343) Only wireless 5GHz works, but not 2.4GHz
Holy Moly! It gives me real pleasure to realize living in some kind of forbidden world, like outside of North America. Channels 12 and 13 of WIFI 2.4GHz are valid channels for the whole world, perhaps with the exception of North America. There is no need to block these channels! The problem was that my router was transmitting on channel 13. And both channels 12 and 13 are NOT seen on my DELL, neither on 14.04 nor on Vivid. As iwlist finds channels 1...13 (in the previous I said 14? Not seen anymore, maybe I had mislooked). This suggests that the clipping of the 2 channels may not be done by the broadcom module, but by something else in the ubuntu configuration. I have now forced the router to channels 1...11 and wifi works well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1456585 Title: 14e4:43b1 DELL XPS 13 (9343) Only wireless 5GHz works, but not 2.4GHz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/broadcom-sta/+bug/1456585/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1456585] Re: 14e4:43b1 DELL XPS 13 (9343) Only wireless 5GHz works, but not 2.4GHz
I used mkusb following this page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/mkusb and (without pre-treating the vivid-desktop-amd64.iso with isohybrid) attempted another stick creation. And presto, it works! Tried booting on both my laptops, the present new DELL XPS13 and an old thinkpad T60, and it booted on both. Then it gets strange. On the T60 the menu under the panel network icon showed the WIFI entry, but greyed out - could not be selected. With this laptop I had never an issue with WIFI, albeit limited to 2.4GHz. On the DELL, there was not even an entry for WIFI in the panel menu. Looked into Additional Driver and found the Broadcom STA listed, but inactiv. Activated, applied and there was the WIFI menu. I can connect to my lan! Still, no sign of my 2.4GHz signal from the same router as the 5GHz signal. I verified with my Nexus7 tablet, that both signals are present. Now it gets even stranger. On the panel network icon menu I see a signal from my neighbourhood on 2.4GHz. Again, verified with the Nexus that it is indeed on 2.4GHz. I can click on it on my DELL (but it needs a password, so here it ends). But my local 2.4GHz signal is better than -30dB, while the neighbour's is very weak at -90 dB and still seen by the DELL. I believe this is a million fold difference! I inactivated my router's 5GHz signal, so that it would only offer 2.4GHz - DELL now doesn't find anything (except still the neighbour's weak signal). I tried to manually create my 2.4 network - no luck. 'iwlist wlan0 freq' finds 14 channels 2.4GHz and another 18 of 5 GHz. But this may not mean anything? Is there anything to determine whatever the wl module sees on 2.4GHz?

[Bug 1456585] [NEW] DELL XPS 13 (9343) Only wireless 5GHz works, but not 2.4GHz
Public bug reported: This laptop came factory preinstalled with Ubuntu 14.04, but it had and still has way too many problems. I have now kernel 3.16.0-37-generic running. The wireless driver is wl, installed from bcmwl-kernel-source. I have wireless working at 5GHz with good speed, everything well. However, I can't connect to wireless on 2.4GHz. Before I had kernel 3.13.0-52-generic, which had the same problem. I tried kernel 4.1.0-rc2 and rc3, but both failed on installing from bcmwl-kernel-source. Trying iwlist wlan0 freq I get a list of channels 1-14 at 2.4GHz, and 32-66 at 5GHz. Still, only the 5GHz works. [Bug 1454651] Re: Ubuntu Mate with Window Manager Marco fails to properly resume from Suspend on DELL XPS13
Ohh, Jeez, what have I gotten into with this laptop - my advice: if you want it for something else than tinkering with kernels and drivers, look elsewhere! And I thought, when it comes with a DELL installed system, it will work. Slapping myself ... As so many things I so far have taken for granted don't work, I thought it is not a problem to ruin the laptop with untested kernels. So here we go, with Ubuntu-Mate still being my desktop: Kernel 4.1.0-040100rc3-generic : Marco and Compiz do both work correctly after a resume from suspend (but even after some - not all - cold boots, I had no cursor on the desktop. happened with both Marco and Compiz) With this kernel, there is no wireless at all! With the original kernel 3.13.0-52 I had at least 5GHz, but now there is neither 2.4 nor 5, Though the proprietary Broadcom STA driver is still installed and marked as active! Bluetooth does not recognize any devices, and even the laptop, with its BT adapter name set to always visible, is not seen by other computers. Kernel 3.16.0-37-generic: Marco does NOT work after resume from suspend, Compiz does. Same behaviour as with original kernel. At least wireless is working on 5GHz (but not on 2.4GHz). Bluetooth not working at all and there is no driver under Additional Driver and non is offered to install. Kernel 3.13.0-52-generic (the one I started with) Wireless still only on 5GHz, BT not connecting to anything - though it is behaving as if it does work. On some boots even the keyboard and the touchpad isn't working, though an external usb-mouse is. [Bug 1454651] Re: Ubuntu Mate with Window Manager Marco fails to properly resume from Suspend on DELL XPS13
This laptop is very new, and I see several (proprietary ?) workarounds being factory-installed, and not available from repositories. I need this laptop in the coming weeks, and I am very reluctant to risk bricking it by toying with new kernels. Furthermore, since the suspend fails to work with Marco, but does work with Compiz on one-and-the-same kernel, I don't even see the evidence for this being a kernel problem? By the way, your link at the end is dead. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1454651 Title: Ubuntu Mate with Window Manager Marco fails to properly resume from Suspend on DELL XPS13 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1454651/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1454651] [NEW] Ubuntu Mate with Window Manager Marco fails to properly resume from Suspend on DELL XPS13
Public bug reported: I have the DELL XPS13 laptop which came factory pre-installed with Ubuntu 14.04. I changed the desktop to Ubuntu Mate. This had the Window Manager Marco (Simple desktop effects) activated. Whenever I went into Suspend, the laptop did resume, but the desktop was not redrawn, no panels, no menus and submenus, no buttons. When I moved the mouse pointer over the places where I assumed the elements to be, some of them did show up, and were clickable. After a reboot, all was normal. I then changed via System -- Control Center -- MATE Tweak -- Windows --Window Manager from Marco to Compiz (Advanced CPU accelerated desktop effects). [Bug 1426893] [NEW] qemu-kvm virtual machines crash with some but not all ubuntu flavors when vmvga video is selected
Public bug reported: I create my VMs with virt-manager and tried Video Modell vmvga in order to let the VM use my whole screen of 1920x1200. This works with some Ubuntu flavours, but others crash on login: The host is Ubuntu 12.04.05 LTS, using Gnome-classic as GUI. All VMs were updated to latest state. All VMs run, when Video Modell cirrus is selected, however, this allows only a max display resolution of 1280*1024, insufficient for some graphics work. But when running Video Modell vmvga (all being otherwise identically configured): Ubuntu Unity 14.04 .. ok Kubuntu 14.04 .. ok (occasional crashes) Ubuntu Cinnamon 14.04 . shows login screen, crashes on login (this VM was cloned from Unity, Cinnamon then added) Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 shows login screen, crashes on login (installed from fresh download) Ubuntu Mate 14.04.01 . shows login screen, crashes on login (installed from fresh download) Ubuntu Unity has such tiny fonts that usage is almost impossible. Only Kubuntu is usable in that regard, but this crashes occasionally ** Affects: util-linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1426893 Title: qemu-kvm virtual machines crash with some but not all ubuntu flavors when vmvga video is selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1426893/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1340613] Re: HWE upgrade not working in 12.04 due to missing packages
Oh dear, nothing learned from doing :-( My system can still be accessed by SSH, but screen schows nothing but could not write bytes, broken pipe. I did: sudo apt-get install libglapi-mesa which removed a lot of stuff, and added a lot of trusty stuff. Also removed was xinit (?) and google-earth-stable 6.0.3.2197-r0. Since now 2 out of 2 people had trouble with google-earth, I am wondering if this has anything to do with it? I then testet hwe-support-status --verbose and it told me that my HWE is supported until 2017. This was done BEFORE sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-trusty xserver-xorg-lts-trusty was executed, so as far as I understand I could not possibly have a working system, yet this was supported for two more years??? Then the above command was also executed, and I rebooted. Strange thing - it worked, but only 2 out of 3 times - the third time it would just show a black screen. Done at least 10 times! I then autoremoved some 206 *:386 packages, and reinstalled google-earth (which reinstalled some 213 *:386 packages). But from then on, I never could go onto the desktop. Booting into recovery mode still worked, but best I ever got was a terminal login, but in the end only the broken- pipe message was shown. Removing google-earth via SSH did not improve the situation. I noticed that /etc/X11/X (as a symlink to /usr/bin/xorg) does not exist. Is that normal for trusty? Fortunately, I did all this on a copy of my hard disk, and could go back to my out-of-support going HWE stack. And will stay there until a real solution is up! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1340613 Title: HWE upgrade not working in 12.04 due to missing packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1340613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1341272] Re: hwe-support-status crashes when option is used
I did run the apport-collect, though as far as I can see, nothing was added. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1341272 Title: hwe-support-status crashes when option is used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1341272/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
