[Bug 367675] Re: not automount by fstab in Jaunty

2010-01-07 Thread unixnewbie
steve,
yes it does exist. i am running karmic upgraded all the way back from hardy
heron and my nfs mounts not longer auto mount. here are my fstab entries

192.168.0.5:/var/lib/mythtv /var/lib/mythtv nfs
rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr
192.168.0.5:/media/500gb /media/500gb nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr
192.168.0.5:/media/500gb1 /media/500gb1 nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr

although from reading above i noticed that my interfaces file may be
jacked up. this is what it looks like

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface

iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.3
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
dns-nameservers 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220

iface bnep0 inet dhcp

auto eth0

i changed it to look like this
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.3
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
dns-nameservers 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220

#iface bnep0 inet dhcp

#auto eth0

so the next reboot i hope they automount. either way i'll be back to let
everyone know

[Bug 478034] [NEW] package linux-image-2.6.28-16-generic 2.6.28-16.56 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.28-16-generic

i am trying to do an upgrade of the kernel just using sudo apt-get
update and then sudo apt-get upgrade and it fails trying to install the
new kernel. NOt sure why, any help would be appreciated. i had the same
issue with the -15-generic kernel and I posted about it here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1277389

i followed all the instructions for what log files I should attach but
it only allows one attachment so I had to archive them together and
attach that. hope that's ok.

[Bug 146284] Re: [Gutsy Beta] 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller Not Correctly Identiified during setup

2009-06-28 Thread unixnewbie
this still does not work. I just did a fresh install which has a Intel
Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics built in graphics card. Xorg
would only run in 800x600 or whatever. I don't even know what resolution
is my optimal hjighest res? I'll have to google around and enter it in
xorg.conf myself. I edited xorg to make it use either the i810 or the
intel driver but I wish there was a tool that would allow me to chose
the best res.

i can confirm this bug. I installed tovid.

wasn't installed.
Also, I am getting an error after it's done encoding saying that makexml can't
find the *.mpg file. I look at the directory that i chose as the new /tmp
location and there is only a file called *.tovid_encoded.mpg. Not sure what
this means. Do I need to enable the proposed repo?

[Bug 194760] Re: EDID fail

2008-04-11 Thread unixnewbie
I am still using Feisty Fawn so I don't have any issues running sudo
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg or using nvidia-settings to setup my dual
head setup running 2 seperate screens (it's a Nvidia 6200 with agp and
dvi). Now that I see this is happening, I am scared to upgrade. Please
fix this issue. I also use a kvm, my ubuntu box vga out goes into the
kvm and the dvi out goes to a lcd tv as my seperate screen. My windows
box agp out goes into the other agp on the kvm. I own a 17 Princeton
Synergy 714 and the other 17 LCD TV per xorg.conf is Philips PHL
17PF8946.

2008-03-26 Thread unixnewbie
not that I am aware of but then again I don't know exactly what ACPI does.
I use mythtv and I get this error all the time in my kern.log.
Mar 22 21:30:20 UBUNTU kernel: [747271.849283] ivtv0: All encoder MPEG stream
buffers are full. Dropping data.
Mar 22 21:30:21 UBUNTU kernel: [747271.849288] ivtv0: Cause: the application is
not reading fast enough.
I have even changed the mpeg buffers from the default to 16MB but I still get
these errors. I haven't tried a new PCI slot for the PVR-350. My recordings are
ok for the most part but it does drop some frames once in awhile.

I have attached the file you requested after performing that command.

[Bug 187483] [NEW] ivtv-utils modules.txt has incorrect parameters referenced

2008-01-30 Thread unixnewbie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ivtv-utils

I was trying to apply some parameters for my PVR-350 so I could rid my
MythTV recordings of pauses and dropped frames and according to
modules.txt located in /usr/share/doc/ivtv-utils/ (as well as the MythTV
PVR-350 Wiki) I was to be using the following parameters for increasing
the buffers.

yuv_buffers 2 32
mpg_buffers 4 16
vbi_buffers 2 16
pcm_buffers 2 16
dec_mpg_buffers 1 1
dec_yuv_buffers 1 1
dec_vbi_buffers 1 1
dec_osd_buffers 1 2

I was to add this line to my /etc/modprobe.conf
options ivtv yuv_buffers=32 mpg_buffers=16 vbi_buffers=16 pcm_buffers=16
dec_osd_buffers=2

but when using those parameters ivtv wasn't even loading. I was getting
the following error in dmesg:

ivtv: Unknown parameter `yuv_buffers'

The following is what modinfo ivtv returns:

parm: enc_mpg_buffers:Encoder MPG Buffers (in MB)
Default: 4 (int)
parm: enc_yuv_buffers:Encoder YUV Buffers (in MB)
Default: 2 (int)
parm: enc_vbi_buffers:Encoder VBI Buffers (in MB)
Default: 1 (int)
parm: enc_pcm_buffers:Encoder PCM buffers (in MB)
Default: 1 (int)
parm: dec_mpg_buffers:Decoder MPG buffers (in MB)
Default: 1 (int)
parm: dec_yuv_buffers:Decoder YUV buffers (in MB)
Default: 1 (int)
parm: dec_vbi_buffers:Decoder VBI buffers (in MB)
Default: 1 (int)

it really needed to be enc_yuv_buffers for encoder buffers and
dec_yuv_buffers for decoder buffers. I think the modules.txt file should
be updated to reflect what parameters are correct for the ivtv module.

[Bug 135279] Re: F5D7050 (2571wf chip) does NOT work in Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5

2007-09-05 Thread unixnewbie
Huh? I provided the requested info awhile ago, did this get lost
somehow? Shouldn't this be a bug that should be worked on for the
release of Gutsy? Any more info needed I would be happy to provide as
this is a major bug IMO.

[Bug 135279] F5D7050 (2571wf chip) does NOT work in Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5

2007-08-28 Thread unixnewbie
Public bug reported:

I just tried to use Gutsy Gibbon Alpha 5 (Tribe 5) and it still does not
work with the Belkin F5D7050, not sure of the version it is but it does
have a 2571wf chip in it. I am including a pastebin link which has the
lsusb output, dmesg error's, the kernel found with uname -r, and the
lsmod | grep rt command. May I ask why this is still not working as it
hasn't ever, even back to Dapper?

[Bug 122941] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in exit()

2007-08-01 Thread unixnewbie
I am having this occur when I merely start up Gutsy Tribe 3. I installed
it from the latest cd available at ubuntu website via torrent. Then last
night there were like more 60 some updates. I don't know if that did
something to screw up what I mention below. The compiz thing has been
NOT starting right from the get go.

ALso what was very weird about this is that none of my gnome-panels
appeared at all. I could do an alt-f2, then enter sudo killall gnome-
panel and then they finally appeared. Here is dmesg and syslog if that
helps.

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while

2007-07-25 Thread unixnewbie
I just had the same problem and haven't ever had this problem! It occured when
attaching a USB to SD card adapter (with a 1gb CD card made by Lexar) and also
a Internal HDD that's connected to a IDE-USB adapter (a Seagate 500gb
ST3500830A). This is what the error is in the syslog:
http://pastebin.com/m7a29e7e3
I know there is other stuff in there but it was easier to just copy and paste
it into pastebin plus I am unaware what's relevant and what's not.
Now when I plug in the USB to SD card adapter it doesn't even auto mount. NOw
what? Do I need to restart to get it to automount. If I try to manually mount it
it works fine BUT with only 1 thing attached at a time. All I was trying to do
was copy over 200 some gig worth of mythtv recordings and then I wanted to plug
in the usb-sc card adapter to burn an .iso to a cd from that cd card. Hope this
helps figure this problem out.

2007-06-12 Thread unixnewbie
May I please ask why not one person has responded to this which will have some
impact regarding it's fix or similar??? Why is this still in unconfirmed when
other users have posted that they have the same problem? How does this bug
thing work as this is the first I posted to help out with the Gutsy testing.
Can anyone from the bug team or a developer please comment on how this
works and or why there hasn't been at least a comment stating that this is
being reviewed?
Thank you.

[Bug 116996] Re: SATA disk is in PATA mode with kernel 2.6.20-16-generic (piix claiming SATA controller on ICH4/ICH5 boards)

2007-06-01 Thread unixnewbie
Don't know if this will help this bug or not but I am a ubuntuforums
member and have been trying to keep spirits high and try to console
those who feel that Ubuntu has really screwed up here, sad to say that I
don't have much of an arguement when something as large as this occurs.

Anway, back to the subject at hand, all my SATA drives are still being handled
by SCSI emulation (i think that's what it means when you see SATA devices show
up with the /dev/sdXY device id) Here is my output from lspci -vvv for my IDE
controllers.

(NOTE: I am not sure why the second IDE controller doesn't have a line for the
Interupt but it doesn't)

This is a ASRock 775dual-VSTA motherboard. And this is what shows for libata
under lsmod:
libata125720 2 sata_via,ata_generic

So this chipset does NOT have this problem, I hope this info is helpful.

[Bug 118221] Re: kernel 2.6.20-16 nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new won't load

2007-06-01 Thread unixnewbie
you'll neeed to show the output of dmesg so we can see what it says about the
NVIDIA module. Also, did you disable the nvidia restricted module within
/etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common file? put nv within the quotes and
it will load the nvidia-glx-new driver, that's how I got my GeForce 6200 128mb
to work anyway. And yes, I am using the 16 kernel as well as compiz.
Also, you are aware that you may need to uninstall it and reinstall it after
the kernel update correct? First make a copy of your xorg.conf file and then I
used these commands:
sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-glx* nvidia-kernel-*
sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx-new
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf_backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(NOTE: this is just putting a copy of the xorg.conf file that you made prior to
uninstalling nvidia back in it's place, use the name of whatever you chose when
you backed it up)
ctrl-alt-backspace
then you should now be using the new driver.
If you can't get into X-server at all, then after X fails, just login to the
command line and perform the steps above and hten do this
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
If that doesn't work, well again need to see the dmesg output.
