[Bug 206439] Re: smb password protected share cannot be accessed

2009-01-20 Thread wolfwitch
Sorry- I just realized this was a different bug than the one I actually
meant to look up. Windows AD shares work fine now, but I don't use
password-protected SMB shares, so I can't actually confirm that this
exact bug is fixed. Sorry for the confusion.

[Bug 206439] Re: smb password protected share cannot be accessed

2009-01-20 Thread wolfwitch
I just installed Jaunty on a test machine, and the Network browser
works!!!

uPnP devices show up, and if I click on an MS-AD resource- it prompts me
for my login credentials (just like way back in Gutsy).

So- it appears this whole mess is finally fixed in Jaunty.

Thank you to everyone who worked on this!

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust

2009-03-17 Thread wolfwitch
The workaround posted near the top of this bug, submitted by Jorge
Peixoto de Morais Neto, seems to be the best fix for this for now. It
works on my laptops and home desktop when using any keyboard...

Just add:

kbdrate -r 25 -d 500

...to /etc/rc.local

I just put it right above "exit 0" at the bottom of the file.

Frankly, I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet.

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust

2009-03-17 Thread wolfwitch
@Gumby- Yes, you would need to restart. The file rc.local runs when your
computer boots up (just before Gnome loads). The one "problem" with this
fix is it briefly displays the terminal screen just before gdm loads,
which isn't nice visually, but it at least makes the computer usable.

@Rich Wales- Sorry, yes- I mean USB keyboards. I can't even remember the
last time I used a PS/2 one. I had the key repeat problem on a total of
four machines- 3 laptops and 1 desktop (mix of home and work) with USB
keyboards. This fixed the problem on all of them.

[Bug 31215] Re: Multimedia keyboard keys only partially work

2009-04-13 Thread wolfwitch
This has been on-again, off-again for me through the Alpha/Beta cycle of
Jaunty. My Natural 4000 keyboard's multimedia/launch keys will work just
fine one week, and then stop the next. I figured this close to the
release date that the yo-yo-ing would have stopped, but after a week or
two of everything working great, as of last Friday- it stopped working
again. The only "special" keys that work are the volume up/down keys.
None of the other special keys work, including Play/Pause and MUTE, and
the favorites keys that I use to toggle between desktops. I've tried
different keyboard layouts in System=>Preferences=>Keyboard and I've
also verified all of my key setups in System=>Preferences=>Keyboard
Shortcuts. I also tried installing and using the 3rd-party KeyTouch
program to no avail. I'll try the steps in Comment 13...

Since it probably makes a difference: This is a USB keyboard on a laptop
(already plagued until recently with hyper-repeating keys).

Okay, just to follow-up...

I verified that the scan codes are correct and are being read right by
Gnome, per the instructions from the link given in Comment 13. I also
verified that everything is set up properly in Gnome Setting Manager.
What is really odd is the volume controls work just fine, but mute
doesn't. Those three keys are set as:

volume_down: XF86AudioLowerVolume (Works)
volume_mute: XF86AudioMute (Doesn't work.)
volume_up: XF86AudioRaiseVolume (Works)

2008-11-20 Thread wolfwitch
One small annoyance with using the Accessibility work-around, which at
this point is less of a problem for me than the insanely repeating keys
I'm otherwise experiencing...

For some reason, enabling "slow keys" is disabling the repeat completely
on my "down" and "left" arrow keys. It is a trade-off I'm willing to
live with for now, but I hope this bug gets fixed soon.

I've actually decided, after doing some coding this morning, that it is

[Bug 85791] Re: Amarok loops through all songs when the sound device isn't available

2008-01-08 Thread wolfwitch
I just wanted to chime-in on this as it has been a persistent problem
with Amarok (and I don't necessarily believe it is a Ubuntu problem).

Amarok seems to want to completely take over the OSS (sound server), and
won't play nice with any other apps that want to use sound. You may have
also noticed that you can't use any other applications that produce
sound while Amarok is running (movies, flash, mp3 streams), and system
sounds don't work either.

And, has has already been stated- if anything does manage to grab OSS's
attention while Amarok is running- it will simply loop through the
playlist or, in some cases, just lock up.

I haven't found any fixes or solutions, nor have I found a music player
I like better than Amarok.

[Bug 209894] [NEW] Can no longer access Samba (Windows) shares with latest updates.

2008-03-31 Thread wolfwitch
Public bug reported:

I could access shares on my Windows-based network without any issues on
Friday (2008-03-28). After installing updates released since then on
Monday morning (2008-03-31), I can no longer access any network shares.
I can browse to domains/workgroups and servers- but no shares are shown
in Nautilus and if I repeatedly try to access them- my network account
gets locked-out (as if I were submitting an invalid password). My
password was previously saved, and I am not being prompted to enter/re-
enter it.

Not sure if this is a samba-client issue or a problem with Gnome or
Nautilus.

[Bug 207739] [NEW] Mouse Keys Swapped in Terminal Server Client

I use a left-hand mouse, and in previous versions of tsclient- this was
translated properly in my Windows RDP sessions. For some reason- this

it is impossible to toggle between Full Screen and Windowed mode in a

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location

2008-04-21 Thread wolfwitch
I wanted to chime in since I opened a similar bug that apparently got
deleted as a dupe...

For me, the situation is this:

Prior to Hardy, I could browse my corporate Active Directory SMB shares
using Nautilus. I was prompted for my login and password if I hadn't
previously accessed a share, saved it to my keyring, and from that point
on had no problem accessing any share I needed to (and had permissions
for). I could simply browse any server similar to "Network Neighborhood"
in Windoze.

After upgrading to Hardy, that is no longer the case. I can see the
servers, but as soon as I try to open one- I get an empty container and
my AD account gets locked out. Apparently Nautilus is trying to access
the shares with a bad or no password. It does still seem to be using my
login name (since I'm getting locked out of the AD network). If it
matters- my Ubuntu login password is different from my AD login.

Note too: While the problem with Microsoft AD is the biggest one I see,
I have the same problem on my small home network that uses SMB on a
LInux server. I can no longer browse shares on it either.

I CAN manually mount an SMB share, although sometimes I get an error:
Can't display location "smb://windowsserver/"
No application is registered as handling this file.

It is necessary on a manual mount to actually specify the share name. I
can't just mount a server to have easy access to all shares on it, like
I used to in Gutsy (and Feisty, and I believe Edgy).

Even with the error- the share shows up on my desktop (and in Places)
and I can access it for a time. It seems to timeout after about a half-
hour of inactivity though, and then I have to manually mount it again
(something else that wasn't happening before). For example- if I open a
spreadsheet on a share, and spend a half hour or so editing it, when I
try to save it- I have to enter my username and password again.

I think the problem is Nautilus or gvfs doesn't seem to be prompting for
user credentials if it cannot access a share like it used to. It also
doesn't seem to be caching them very well anymore when it does (through
a manual mount). I tried deleting my gnome keyring, so it shouldn't be
using a saved password anymore (and even if it was- it should be working
since I haven't changed it).

I don't know if any of this helps, but that's my experience. I'll gladly
provide any information I can if it helps get this fixed. This is a big
deal for anyone using or trying to use Ubuntu in a corporate
environment, most of which run Microsoft AD.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-05-28 Thread wolfwitch
I can't say how to dupe it using Samba shares, but I believe Tien's
suggestion of using "security=share" would do it.

Any share requiring authentication should cause this problem to occur.
Nautilus won't prompt for credentials, and displays a blank folder when
one tries to access a share. In Windows AD- it apparently tries to
repeatedly access the server using the Ubuntu login name without a
password, which results in the user's account being locked-out (assuming
the Ubuntu user name matches an AD user name).

The work-around is to use the "Connect to Server" dialog, but it is
necessary to specify a share name, and it falsely reports that the share
could not be mounted, even though it will then show up in the Places
list.

Prior to Hardy- shares could be accessed with ease just by browsing them
through the "Network" Place. If one tried accessing a password-protected
share- they would be prompted to provide user credentials, which could
optionally be saved to the Gnome Keyring.

My understanding, from a previous post by Sebastien on one of the many
duplicates of this bug, is that this is a problem with gvfs and it is
supposedly being worked on...

I really wish someone would get this fixed. It has pretty much killed my
push to roll out Ubuntu in a corporate environment.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-05-28 Thread wolfwitch
I had a hard time collecting all the dependencies and getting autogen to
work, but after about an hour of Googling and tinkering I was finally
able to get it the patched version of gvfsd-smb-browse compiled and
installed. I'm sure just getting the binary posted here would have
worked fine, but I generally prefer compiling things to binaries as an
old Linux server administrator.

The only problems I've noticed are there is no option to save the
username/password to the Gnome keyring, as has already been noted. I
also noticed a definite slowdown in accessing the shares, although I'm
assuming that is because of the extra overhead of determining if they
need authentication. Also- when I double-click on a server, I get the
username/domain/password dialog, but when I enter them- nothing appears
to happen. I need to double-click on the server again to actually open
it. This is probably related to the bogus "Unable to mount." issue that
is in another bug.

Just my observations. Thank you so much for coming up with this patch
Paul! It makes Ubuntu a lot more usable for me again.

I followed Renzo's instructions and the two problems I reported earlier

To clarify his steps for anyone new:
To apply the patch- cd to the "deamon" directory under the gvfs directory

authenticated shares), which backs up your experience with Samba on
Ubuntu. I believe the issue is within gvfs or nautilus, and has nothing
to do with Samba. Frankly- there are so many bugs open for this right
now- I've lost track. :)

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location

2008-04-29 Thread wolfwitch
I've noticed a couple of other things...

As said earlier- you can mount a share if you use "Places => Connect to
server" and then use an actual share name. There is no way to browse
shares through Nautilus. This is a real pain if you have a large network
with lots of servers and shares.

After successfully authenticating, you get an error dialog:

Can't display location "smb://servername/sharename/"
The specified location is not mounted.

However- the location is in-fact mounted, and shows up in the Places
menu afterwards. It also creates a desktop shortcut.

Another odd thing. If I click on the share in Places- it opens up in
Nautilus, but it also creates ANOTHER entry in Places and on my desktop.
So- for every share I mount and access- I get two entries in Places and
two desktop shortcuts. I can unmount one of them to get rid of the
clutter, but it is just really odd.

[Bug 207739] Re: Mouse Keys Swapped in Terminal Server Client

2008-05-13 Thread wolfwitch
Thanks for your post Andy. I was starting to think this went into a
black hole.

This is still a big problem for me. I manage a dozen or so servers using
rdesktop, and the dyslexic mousing is quite a bit more than just
annoying.

The change definitely happened when I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy.

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: tsclient
+ Binary package hint: tsclient, also rdesktop

  In the latest Hardy beta...

I use a left-hand mouse, and in previous versions of tsclient- this was
translated properly in my Windows RDP sessions. For some reason- this
stopped happening after I upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy. In a terminal
server session- my mouse keys get swapped back to a right-handed
configuration. I can change them on the remote server, but that then
messes up other users logging into the same account (administrator).

[Bug 221014] [NEW] Desktop displayed for approx. 30 seconds on restore from hybernate (before password prompt).

2008-04-23 Thread wolfwitch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-16-generic

When restoring from Hibernate, a dimmed desktop (with any open windows
from the hibernated session) is displayed for approx. 30 seconds before
the "Locked" dialog appears and prompts for a password. If a computer
hibernates with confidential information on the screen- this poses as
security risk because that information is displayed for a period of time
before the password prompt is displayed. It does not appear there is any
interactive access to the desktop- but clearly someone could read any
information on it without logging-in.

Normally on restore from hibernate- a blank screen (or wallpaper) is
displayed with a login prompt, with absolutely no display or access to
the hibernated desktop until the user is authenticated.

Description:Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)
Release:8.04 (RC)
Using ATI "Restricted" driver with "Normal" visual effects.

Computer is a Dell Lattitude 131L (AMD Turion 64-bit dual core) w/ 2GB RAM.

information should be stored in Launchpad.)

[Bug 221338] [NEW] SSH/SFTP Not Working in Nauilus (Another GVFS Problem?)

2008-04-24 Thread wolfwitch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Realized this because a couple of Java HTML authoring apps I used
stopped working as of this week (unable to access Web servers via
SFTP)...

I cannot connect to SFTP/SSH resources through Nautilus. I suspect this
is similar to the problems reported with SMB, in that it isn't
requesting authentication information. The resources are accessible as
expected through terminal/command line.

To duplicate:
Places => Connect to Server...
Select SSH.
Enter valid SSH server name.
Doesn't seem to matter if you enter a User Name.

Result:
Can't display location "sftp://servername";
Timed out when logging in.

Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04 RC)

Hardware profile should be on-file in Launchpad.
Please advise of any other info needed.

[Bug 272314] Re: NSPlugin Viewer ERROR: libnss3.so

2008-10-16 Thread wolfwitch
I think the problem is trying to install this on Hardy 64-bit, and not
Intrepid.

As John indicated with reference to Ari's post- one should symlink the
libraries, not copy them. In any case- I was unable to get this to work
with these instructions. I tried symlinking directly to the Firefox
libraries as-well, to no avail.

The package -is- intended for Intrepid, not Hardy, so there are
obviously some underlying problems.

Per the comments later on- disable AutoAddDevices TEMPORARILY. Adjust

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-10-27 Thread wolfwitch
Sebastien-

If you are referring to my earlier comment- I apologize. I very much
appreciate ALL of the work that the volunteer developers and organizers
put into Ubuntu. Without all of you, Ubuntu wouldn't happen, and I'm
pretty sure we all realize this. My frustration lies in the fact that
this has been a known bug for over 7 months that DOES affect a lot of
people, and makes Ubuntu a complete failure in the corporate desktop and
many small business markets. I suppose in Ubuntu's goal of being a Linux
for the masses, that may not matter, as I will concede that many home
users won't encounter this problem.

I also realize this is an upstream issue. Ubuntu's only real fault here
lies in using a faulty Gnome release to make what was believed to be the
majority of people happy. The problem is- I believe you (collectively,
not personally) are doing the opposite. System administrators, network
managers, and geeks in general (who DO work in ADS environments) are the
ones "selling" and distributing Ubuntu within their organizations and
among their friends. How am I supposed to tell the non-geek secretary
for a non-profit I work for that she needs to "patch her gvfs" just so
she can browse a network resource?

All that said- this bug was reported one month prior to the release of
Hardy. Several similar/duplicate bugs were reported within days of it,
including one of my own. It can't be said that it wasn't known about
prior to Hardy's release, and it is certainly known now, less than a
week before Intrepid gets release with the same bug.

At least it appears upstream finally took notice (they haven't touched
it since July until late last week).

Once again, Sebastien and others, I DO appreciate your work on this. My
goal is to convey my frustration in hopes that maybe someone takes
notice and fixes this problem, and I believe that is where others who
are complaining here are at too. I will be happy to help with testing or
any other information that might push this along.

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust

2008-10-29 Thread wolfwitch
"Me Too" post! I'm going to try the work-around. This is really-really-
really annoying. I thought I was going crazy at first, because
GoogleDesktopSearch keeps popping up every time I just hit the CTRL key,
and everything I didn't type really-fast has multiple spaces and/or
letters that I have to go back and edit out. I tried just disabling
Repeat Keys in keyboard preferences, and then realized how much I
actually use it. The settings for Delay and Speed seem to be completely
ignored.

It at least "seems" like this only manifested itself in the RC version.
I don't recall it in the Beta or later Alpha versions (if that helps, at
all).

The "work-around", which admitted does fix the repeating-key problem,

So- no unexpectedly repeating keys, but also no volume control, mute,

[Bug 274995] Re: storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically if non-loopback network interfaces are still up

2008-10-30 Thread wolfwitch
Just wanted to throw my name in as one of those this affects...

I had actually hoped it was a fluke that wouldn't carry out of beta, but
now that I updated to the Intrepid Release- it's still a problem.

Adding: ifconfig eth0 down
...to the top of my alsa-utils fixed it, although I really don't understand
what Alsa is doing messing with the network card.

It's a 64-bit Athlon home-brew system, with on-board audio and network.
I'm attaching my lspci dump, just in-case it helps.

There might be some other issues (related?) with the alsa driver. Sound
works great once everything is loaded, but I can be logged-in with my
desktop loading before the startup drums sound. In Hardy- they were
heard just as the login screen was displayed.

Sort-of the Microsoft philosophy on operating systems- if you don't like

Seriously though- anything from upstream on this yet? It's been 6+
months, and there have certainly been enough people complaining about
it. As has already been said by more than a few people- gvfs should have
never been used in the first place, especially on an LTS version. It is
almost unforgivable that it is being used in Intrepid, especially since
upstream doesn't seem to be in any hurry to fix it, and Ubuntu has known
about it being broken since Hardy.

[Bug 274995] Re: MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically if non-loopback network interfaces are still up

2008-11-07 Thread wolfwitch
Agreeing with the last several posts. This seems to be a growing trend-
the Milestone is more important than actual system stability/usability.
This became very noticeable to me with Hardy, which has major network
usability issues that still haven't been fixed in Intrepid.

Issues like this may be just annoyances to those of us who have used
Ubuntu and other releases for awhile, but they are deal-breakers to any
potential NEW users. Having fancy Compiz-Fusion graphics may wow them at
first- but when they realize other things they actually NEED (like good-
quality sound and being able to shut down) don't work- they look at
other distros or abandon Linux altogether.

This is a bug that has serious consequences for ongoing system stability
(including the real potential for data loss). Some of the work-arounds
work for SOME people, but they aren't a very good long-term solution,
and would be beyond the scope of the average "new" Ubuntu user.

I really love and appreciate everything the Ubuntu developers do, but I
feel someone is driving the priorities in the wrong direction.

Agreed/Ditto. I've pretty much given up on it. The best "solution" I've

pretty much impossible. This isn't really Ubuntu's fault since it is a
problem with an upstream vendor, but it's a bit ridiculous that this bug
has been know about for almost seven months now and hasn't been fixed.
It's been reworded and duped all over the place, and it seems it's being
spun more than fixed.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-08-22 Thread wolfwitch
This whole mess is actually WORSE in Intrepid right now. In Hardy, there
was at least the option of manually attaching to the share using the
"Connect to server..." dialog. That doesn't work in Intrepid.(!) One
gets the usual errant "Cannot display location..." error message, but it
shows up in Places as mounted (just like in Hardy); however- double-
clicking on the share to open it yields a very (un)helpful error
message:

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already
registered

So now- I can't access my authenticated network shares at all.

Fortunately I'm running intrepid on a secondary machine- I realize it is
only in Alpha right now, but I had expected at least SOME progress on
this problem.

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"

2008-08-22 Thread wolfwitch
Just throwing in a "ditto" here and subscribing...

This "seems" to be similar to a bug that started with Hardy, only now it
is worse. With Hardy- while you couldn't browse shares through Nautilus,
you could manually mount them using the "Connect to Server..." dialog in
Places. You would get an error message about not being able to mount the
volume, but the volume was actually mounted and you could then access it
in Places. That doesn't seem to be possible in Intrepid Alpha 3.

Just to clarify- this was a brand new install of Ibex Alpha 3 from

everything "redirected" but Apt isn't picking them up. Now I can't
update or install much of anything. I had the same problem on the same
machine earlier with Alpha 2. It's a test machine, so I wiped it and
installed Alpha 3 to see if the problem came up again.

After the volume shows mounted in "Places", if you double-click on it to
open it- you get the following error message:

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already
registered

I also can't mount any authenticated shared using the

Found this bug, which mine is pretty much a dupe of. I just had the

The problem seems to be the change to gvfs. Unfortunately- except for

My
password was previously saved, and I am not being prompted to enter/re-
enter it.

Not sure if this is a samba-client issue or a problem with Gnome or
Nautilus.

For what it is worth- I'm having the same problem on three different

If I try to attach directly (instead of just browsing) using the

I'm assuming an SMB app. got dropped or misconfigured in a recent

I hadn't tried not including a username. My experience with Windows

or I don't get prompted for a password and get locked out of the domain
(by Active Directory).

The problem is the same on my home Samba server running CentOS (with
authenticated shares), which backs up your experience with Samba on
Ubuntu. I believe the issue is within gvfs or nautilus, and has nothing
to do with Samba. Frankly- there are so many bugs open for this right

The package -is- intended for Intrepid, not Hardy, so there are

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-10-08 Thread wolfwitch
Agreed/Ditto. I've pretty much given up on it. The best "solution" I've
found is to set up shortcuts to every share I use, since browsing is
pretty much impossible. This isn't really Ubuntu's fault since it is a
problem with an upstream vendor, but it's a bit ridiculous that this bug
has been know about for almost seven months now and hasn't been fixed.
It's been reworded and duped all over the place, and it seems it's being
spun more than fixed.

I don't recall it in the Beta or later Alpha versions (if that helps, at
all).

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust

2008-10-29 Thread wolfwitch
The "work-around", which admitted does fix the repeating-key problem,
also disables any multimedia or related special keys on one's keyboard.
So- no unexpectedly repeating keys, but also no volume control, mute,
play/pause, or feature keys (like browser/email), which all work without
it. Kind of a bad trade-off. It disables all of the "Fn" (Function) keys
on my laptop's keyboard as-well.

I'll see if I can reproduce this. I reported this six months ago though,
and don't use Hibernate all that often.

2008-10-24 Thread wolfwitch
Well, I can't reproduce this at this time, but I can't reproduce the
circumstances either. This was happening with "Desktop Effects" turned
on. I'm currently running Intrepid Beta, and can't enable Desktop
Effects for some reason. (I'll fight that on another front.)

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-10-24 Thread wolfwitch
I installed Debian Etch on a test machine, and this problem doesn't
exist. Either they figured out how to fix it, or they didn't use the
same buggy gvfs implementation that Ubuntu is. I haven't tried a "from
scratch" install of Intrepid, but I do know the two machines I ran a
distro-upgrade on to Intrepid Beta still have this problem.

2008-10-24 Thread wolfwitch
Sort-of the Microsoft philosophy on operating systems- if you don't like
our shiny new broken one- please feel free to use the old rusty one that
still has the feature(s) you need...

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"

2008-11-03 Thread wolfwitch
@dawinkley: You'd have to do a 'sudo chmod' command, it is very unlikely
that is related to the problem itself, and it is always a very-bad idea
to mess with file permissions on system-created files like this. You
would likely create a stability or security issue.

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust, when AutoAddDevices is on

2008-11-01 Thread wolfwitch
Per the comments later on- disable AutoAddDevices TEMPORARILY. Adjust
the key delay/repeat until it is what is desired, then re-enable
AutoAddDevices. It's a PITA if it takes you awhile to tweak your
keyboard repeat just-right, but it works. Once you re-enable
AutoAddDevices- your multimedia, laptop function, and other special keys
should work again (assuming they did to begin with). Also- remember to
restart X after each step.

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust, when AutoAddDevices is on

2008-11-21 Thread wolfwitch
Thank you @Jorge Peixoto de Morais Neto!

That is the best work-around so-far. It was getting to be almost
impossible to work effectively because of this bug, and now I can. My
keyboard acts exactly as I expect it to now, without repeating
characters/spaces, and I can use my arrow keys (another bug discussed
earlier).

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-11-07 Thread wolfwitch
@Peter van Heun: Is the server/share you are having trouble with
requiring authentication? That's where this problem creeps up. It
(Nautilus/gvfs) works just fine on open shares, but anything requiring
authentication will fail (and in an MS ADS network- will generally get
your account locked-out).

Well, it seems silly (that we have to resort to this)- but Sarath's
solution works very well. Just be sure to set the delay all the way to
"short".

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust, when AutoAddDevices is on

2008-11-20 Thread wolfwitch
I've actually decided, after doing some coding this morning, that it is
a trade-off I'm NOT willing to live with.

It's unfortunate that with all the advances Linux has made over the last
couple of years, we now have to deal with a stupid flaky keyboard
driver. Will my mouse stop working next?

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-06-09 Thread wolfwitch
Unfortunately a gvfs update hit the repositories in the last couple of
days. This "fixed" my patched version, and the version in the
repositories is still broken. I can't believe this is taking this long
to fix.

I'm not blacklisting gvfs from updates because I keep hoping it will get
fixed, but for now- I need to go through the patch process again.
