I also have the same issue with a Targus mouse on 11.10. Switching to a different mouse seems to solve the issue. Again I have not had hassles with the mouse on other systems. I also don't understand why if the module is going to be included in the kernel why it cannot have the patch to allow undervolting included. By default it does nothing except show what the current settings are. If you need to undervolt your computer (like I do because it reduces my CPU temperature drastically as I can run it at 0.9V instead of 1.5V) then you can enable it by adding the relevant scripts and settings. It is not likely to cause issues with the average user suddenly breaking their machines because they accidentally undervolted it. The only solution for me at the moment would be to recompile the whole kernel that takes 4-5 hours or to get a precompiled kernel from someone such ad (ppa:linux-phc/ppa) where I am relying on them not to put a backdoor into my kernel (not that I think they would) and currently they do not compile for Maverick. This is about allowing us to undervolt to run our machines cooler and not about CPU scaling. My machine already does CPU scaling and that works fine but it still runs hot because the CPU default voltages are way too high. Please consider adding this small patch to allow undervolting. -- acpi-cpufreq/powernow-k8 should not be built-in into the kernel image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355232 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In Lucid the icon is now in the indicator applet and to show Rhythmbox you need to click on the icon then select Show Rhythmbox. Possible solutions are: 1. Double click icon to toggle Rhythmbox display 2. Make icon click toggle Rhythmbox display and right-click to bring up current click menu. [Bug 539426] Re: Rhythmbox cannot be quickly opened from Indicator Applet
It was really about reproducing the functionality that was available when Rhythmbox had the icon in the notification area rather than the indicator applet. I keep rhythmbox running by closing rather than quitting. It then closes while the icon remains. I was just used to the notification area standard of toggling show/hide window by clicking on the icon (as in pidgin, lifera, alarm clock, and rhythmbox before) Not knowing the reasoning behind moving things from the notification area to the indicator application, I just feel that the indicator application loses out by not having a right-click option. The notification area use cases seam to be click for a quick action (toggle view state, show available networks) and right-click to configure or change preferences. By having the icon to show the start of the notification area you can click on that to change the applet settings rather than right-clicking anywhere on the applet. I think the indicator application could be better by having a click and a right click action. Possibly that could be a click and a double click action. It could even be that the quick action could be configurable, e.g. in Rhythmbox it might allow show/hide or play/pause, volume might be mute/unmute or simple volume change. There is also no tool tip on the indicator application (but that might be raised as a separate enhancement) I agree with the need for consistency but visually the notification area and indicator application look the same so there is the possibility of confusion between the two as they currently behave differently. What might be a compromise for me would be to alway show the icon in the indicator application like the envelop icon is always shown and then show rhythmbox would start it if it is not already running as clicking on Pidgin does under the envelop icon. If we are going for consistency I'd make it a media icon and allow each media play to have an individual sub-menu like we have for Evolution, Microblogging and pidgin in the envelop icon. I am happy to live with the new change so if you want to mark this as won't fix or investigate as possible enhancement I am quite happy. -- Rhythmbox cannot be quickly opened from Indicator Applet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 111502] Re: network-manager unreliable with multiple APs
Hi, Just got home and tried again and has similar issues. I've attached the syslog. I waited a couple of minutes between resuming the laptop and entering in the screen-saver password to see if that made a difference. It appears from the log that when it fails to connect to the AP it assumes that the key is wrong rather than that the AP is no longer there and prompts for a new key. In this case I cancelled the key and it then appears it tries to connect to the next AP in the list which is my work list and attempted to connect to absa_connectivity1 (or something) I then selected the correct AP from the list and successfully connected to that. One possible solution would be to rescan for APs on resume and then attempt to connect to the known networks it can now find. This might slow down reconnection to the same AP if you just suspend the machine and try and reconnect on resume. It might be an option to have a quick reconnect option that will use the current behaviour where it tries to reconnect to the same AP on resume if you hardly ever connect to other APs but if you do like I do, one at work and one at home a rescan option might be preferable. [Bug 111502] Re: network-manager unreliable with multiple APs
Hi, I've attached my syslog. I unfortunately did not have debugging on which I have now done and will submit an updated one when this happens again. In the log there are two connection events. On Feb 11 after 8pm (there is a gap in log times before that) I unsuspended my laptop having been at work on the 315 AP. The machine asked from the gnome screensaver password and connected fine to the barbour AP. On Feb 12 after 6am (again there is a gap in log times before that) I again unsuspended my laptop having been on the barbour AP. It should have tried to connect to the 315 but attempted to connect to barbour. It then prompted me to re-enter my WPA key which I left waiting. I then grabbed the syslog. While I was check up on a separate machine on what else to capture I noticed the network connect. It connected to the 315 AP successfully. I captured the syslog again a bit later but there is a gap between the two. ** Attachment added: syslog.out.gz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22542992/syslog.out.gz -- network-manager unreliable with multiple APs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, I have exactly the same issue in 8.10. I also had it in 8.04. The problem comes when you do many things on start-up and it takes too long for the i8kmon window to appear so gnome-swallower does not find it. It then asks it you wish to reload which then works fine but leaves the original application running. The simplest solution is the one presented, increase the time out from 10 to say 30 seconds. Other solutions would be to make the timeout an option in the applet. Finally it could continue to poll for the window while the Reload confirmation window is being shown and if the application windows appears while the reload dialog is shown then automatically close it. Alternatively, it the user presses reload, first check it the window is there before rerunning the application. [Bug 181065] Re: Unable to unlock the screensaver
I am getting this issue since I have moved to 8.10. I have noticed that the checking does seem to take longer and just when I think I am going to have to retype my password I get in. If it hangs on checking I can kill X with ctrl-backspace. I haven't checked if I could switch to a terminal and kill screensaver. -- Unable to unlock the screensaver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181065 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid
My card on the Dell Inspiron 6000 is the Intel 910. At least I can use (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and (Ctrl-Alt-F9) to make it work again and undo all of these problems. Ray p.s. [Bug 289891] [NEW] Brighness adjustment freezes panels
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 8.10 (Installed the beta but have installed all updates as of 27 Oct 2008 15h00 UTC) I have a Dell Inspiron 6000. When I press Fn-Up/Down to increase or decrease the brightness the brightness does adjust but the pop up that appears to show the brightness level just shows the brightness is at its lowest. After adjusting the brightness I can no longer use any on the main panels. If I click on a menu, say system, the title becomes selected but the menu does not appear. I cannot use the windows panel at the bottom to select another program. I have also added the brightness applet and I cannot adjust the birghtness via this applet. [Bug 249803] Re: When Escape is pressed to dismiss Log off/Switch User screen, the desktop stays dimmed
ok, I have found some extra info. I was unable to replicate the bug with Compiz running, so I switched it off. I was then able to replicate but was unable to switch Compiz back on. In searching for a fix a came across https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/control- center/+bug/231904 and saw that the key /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager was indeed selected. By un- checking Metacity as my compositing manager I was able to get Compiz working again. The dimming issue again went away. If I then went to System-Preferences-Appearance-Visual Effects I was able to turn off Compiz and the issue was still fixed. I then went back and re-checked Metacity as my compositing manager and the problem was back. So it looks like an issue with the Metacity compositing manager interacting with the logout manager. -- When Escape is pressed to dismiss Log off/Switch User screen, the desktop stays dimmed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 249803] Re: When Escape is pressed to dismiss Log off/Switch User screen, the desktop stays dimmed
Hi, I am not sure where to find the driver in 8.04. I have a intel 910M integrated based chipset. I have noticed that on my machine when I press the green icon to bring up the menu the back ground goes half dark then gets darker rather slowly on my machine. If I press esc straight away it returns fine. If I do it on the second darkening level then it stays dark. I have found if I try to turn on Visual Effects to normal which fails on my machine, it goes back to none but the screen resets to full brightness. The mouse stays bright. It looks like there is an overlay that is dimming the background that is not getting removed. -- When Escape is pressed to dismiss Log off/Switch User screen, the desktop stays dimmed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 226823] Re: Use system proxy settings doesn't take care of proxy exceptions list in Gnome proxy settings
Hi All, On Ubuntu FF-RC2 if I use manual settings I can add entries like 127.0.0.0/8 and it will bypass proxy. If I switch to use system proxy 127.0.0.0/8 does not work but if I add 127.0.0.1 it does bypass 127.0.0.1. I could not get any form of wild cards to work on use system proxy. So you will need to add all sites individually rather than using ranges etc. Ray -- Use system proxy settings doesn't take care of proxy exceptions list in Gnome proxy settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 226823] Re: Use system proxy settings doesn't take care of proxy exceptions list in Gnome proxy settings
Hi Alexander, That appears to be the case. From myself on RC2 and Junior on RC1 it appears that the exceptions are now being read when using System Proxy as they were not in beta 5, but subnet syntax does not, e.g. 127.0.0.0/8. Domain bypass does not work either, e.g. .cnn.com. So full IPs or full host names work as per http://kb.mozillazine.org/No_proxy_for but no form of wild cards or ranges. Sorry Alexander, I only discovered yesterday that I could easily upgrade to RC Versions of Ubuntu Firefox so I do not know if it is an issue on RC1. Is there a need to test on RC1? If so I will need a few instructions how to get ahold of a RC1 version of Ubuntu Firefox.
