[Bug 1898491] [NEW] STARTTIME is incorrect in 2.2.0

2020-10-04 Thread yurx cherio
Public bug reported:

I have several up-to-date instances of Ubuntu 20.04 and one of them
consistently shows incorrect STARTTIME. The column often shows the same
timestamp for most processes with only a handful of top level exceptions
like /sbin/init and /lib/systemd/systemd.

In the same instance the old issue of process name not being completely
refreshed is back. This is very noticeable with postrgesql processes
that change process name according to the command they execute. E.g.
when a process changes state from running a SELECT to idle the process
name changes from SELECT to idleCT keeping the last 2 characters "CT" of
SELECT.

As a reference top when run with -o lstart produces correct process
start timestamp.

This issue is discussed here: https://github.com/htop-
dev/htop/issues/202. It also states that installing a DEB from debian
testing (ver 3.0.2-1) fixes the issue.

[Bug 1747878] Re: [pulseaudio] backend-ofono.c: Failed to register as a handsfree audio agent with ofono: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.ofono was not provided by any .service

2020-02-17 Thread yurx cherio
The resolution makes me chuckle. If this is a warning or an error in my
system log it means I need to pay attention to it. Otherwise the log
entry should not be a warning or at least it should have verbiage
hinting this is not really a warning for me (it even sounds oxymoron :D
)

As a side note, if a project emits too many warnings that need to be
ignored this leads to developers also ignoring or missing important and
relevant warnings that otherwise would be noticed. It is a bad practice
to leave warnings that can be ignored; its also often a sign that the
project needs more attention or lacks competent supervision.

[Bug 1453812] Re: System freeze when using LibreOffice Writer

2016-06-06 Thread yurx cherio
I might add a twist into this saga. I run some backend document
processing on a VMWare virtualized server (Ubuntu 14.04) with no UI at
all. soffice is started as a headless instance and accepts connections
on port 8100. After the upgrade to 5.1 the backend document generation
slowed down to a crawl. Now it takes 15 minutes(!!!) to build a 30-page
long document. The same process before the upgrade used to take less
than 15 seconds.

2012-06-10 Thread yurx cherio
I thought I found a safe shelter with Xubuntu but after almost a week of
uptime XFCE froze. So far I've tried Unity 3D, 2D and XFCE (installed
from scratch) and all of them freeze. I tried kernels 3.3.x and 3.4.x
with no obvious siccess.

Dell XPS Studio 8100, i7 860 (Lynnfield Nehalem), nVidia GeForce GT 220,
8Gb ram, fake (BIOS) RAID 1.

Based on this bug report it doesn't seem to be specific to GPU,
packaging (Unity/Gnome/KDE/XFCE/LXDE), architecture and software running
at the time of freezing. I am leaving Ubuntu for good. It's just too
unstable for me at this time and there is no light at the end of the
tunnel. It is a very hard decision and very disappointing.

2012-06-02 Thread yurx cherio
I have Nehalem Lynnfield i7 860 + nvidia GeForce GT 220.
My freezes occur when running either Unity 3D or 2D (64amd). Freezes persist
after upgrading to 3.3.6, 3.3.7 and 3.4.

Originally I was suspecting different culprit applications e.g. Chrome,
VirtualBox, Eclipse IDE, Totem player, etc but later I experienced
freezes when these applications were not running.

At the office I have a workstation withe SAME hardware configuration
(including nvidia model and drivers) which runs XFCE and it doesn't
freeze which points to Unity/Compiz as a potential culprit.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently

2012-05-31 Thread yurx cherio
Freezes when using google-earth? That's interesting because I noticed
freezes when I use google chrome browser. Almost 2 days ago it started
freezing (as I mentioned before it doesn't freeze immediately, it takes
several minutes to freeze while the symptoms worsen) and I managed to
kill Chrome browser before it completely froze. The freezing stopped the
system even came back and has been up for almost 2 days since. I haven't
used Chrome since that time yet.

Now that I am thinking I was using Chrome every time at the time of
freezing. My compiz CPU was going up and IO Wait was taking all
available CPU resources. I don't run Google Earth but I can imagine it
may use the same libraries under the hood as Chrome.

The problem seems to be with Unity 3D.

I run XFCE at the office and it doesn't freeze. The one at home runs
Unity 3D + compiz and it keeps freezing. Both computers have very
similar hardware, i7, nVidia, RAID0, etc.

I just can't accept that the LTS release quality is so low. I wonder how
stable 12.10 will be? Should I bail now or wait for something to happen?

2012-05-29 Thread yurx cherio
I was wrong. Upgrading to 3.3.7 DIDN'T fixed it for me. Another freeze.
Coincidentally I was using VirtualBox at that time.

It looks to me like an IO lock-up. I noticed that it doesn't freeze
completely immediately. It takes a few minutes before the total freeze.
For some time the exiting windows partially work but network
connectivity disappears (existing SSH connections stay fine), IO Wait
consumes most of cores, no application can be launched or normally
closed, compiz takes about 50% of one core. It very much sounds like
some sort of IO lock.

After upgrading to 12.04 none of my zenity scripts that rely on the "--

surprised this slipped into the LTS release.

[Bug 890586] Re: Right-clicking selected files appears to clear selection

2012-05-01 Thread yurx cherio
Disregard my previous comment. It was stupid. The reason it worked on
other files and not "1" and "2" was because "1" and "2" are very short
names and I was clicking on the white-space after the file names.

[Bug 890586] Re: Right-clicking selected files appears to clear selection

2012-05-01 Thread yurx cherio
I also noticed it depends on file names (?!?!?!). I created 2 files with
the names "1" and "2" and I had a Nautilus Script to compare selected
files. The behavior was exactly as you described. I would select these
two files and then right-click on them. As soon as I right-click the
selection disappears. It worked on the other files though. So I renamed
these files and it worked again.

BTW it is reproducible. Just create 2 files with names "1" and "2" in
the same folder, Ctrl+click-select them and then right-click on the
selection and there you go .

files on in Ubuntu and I did mark the computer as a trusted device on

[Bug 662677] [NEW] Doesn't seem to work any more after upgrading to Maverick

2010-10-18 Thread yurx cherio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alltray

AllTray stopped docking windows in Ubuntu 10.10 amd64. The OS is
installed from scratch, not via upgrade.

For the selected application it creates an icon the tray (by the way the
icon gets a very strange white background) though it doesn't dock most
of the windows I tried. The only window it docked was Google Chrome and
only when the browser uses its own decoration. As I set it to use the
standard gnome window decoration it doesn't dock any more.

It fails docking any other application I tried e.g. Thunderbird, gnome-
terminal, nautilus and a bunch more.

I am wondering if I am the only guy using Maverick who experience this
problem.

[Bug 443334] Re: Both gnome-terminal and xfce4-terminal show as "Terminal" in GNOME's menu

2009-11-16 Thread yurx cherio
I run both GNOME and Xfce and I manually renamed each terminal in the
Accessories menu to "GNOME Terminal" and "Xfce Terminal" respectively.
After all this is what they are and there is no reason why one or
another should prevail and remain just a "Terminal". Labels of both
should be updated.

There is also xterm which is present regardless of what one is running
GNOME, KDE, Xfce. xterm for that matter is even better candidate to be
named as just "Terminal".

[Bug 479631] Re: UbuntuOne is not connecting

2009-11-09 Thread yurx cherio
I think this may also be helpful - I am not using NetworkManager. In
fact I uninstalled it. I hope this shouldn't be a problem as
NetworkManager is optional anyway. At home I am using WICD, at the
office I configure network configuration files directly so that
NetworkManager is never in the picture.

I am assuming that if there was a dependency it should have been
resolved by the package manager, though relying on NetworkManager
presence wouldn't be a wise design decision (in my mind).

grayed out like that. I tried deleting ~/.config/ubuntuone files, but it doesn't
make any difference. Deleting everything under

help either. The taskbar icon shows "!" all the time.

[Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information

2009-05-08 Thread yurx cherio
I believe as a bottom line everyone agrees that if a user sets the
checkbox to check for updates then the user expects to be notified (one
way or another) about the new available updates. If I set it as
"automatic" I shouldn't go and do it manually.

Icon in the tray is appropriate when I say so by checking the
appropriate checkbox. Icon in the tray is more appropriate then balloon,
because if I leave my computer for 10 min I may miss the balloon,
however the icon will remain in the tray.

One developer mentioned that the user has to have skills to properly
recognise the update icon and the balloon is self-explanatory. Same
statement can be applicable to the rest of the icons in the tray, to the
icons associated with applications (e.g. when you use drawer on gnome
panel), it can be used to accuse nautilus icon to be non-intuitive, etc.
The solution could be simple. That update-notification icon could be
made more recognisable. Open a poll/contest for the most intuitive icon
and simply collect user input on that.

:)

[Bug 288797] Re: [Intrepid] Synaptic unusable - Can not find packages

2009-04-20 Thread yurx cherio
I can confirm the problem. It occurs on different machines when
searching for freenx package (Repository setup unstructions can be found
here ).

I can also confirm that "sudo update-apt-xapian-index" workaround is
working though it is a nuisance.

[Bug 335239] Re: Synaptic Quick Search not working

2009-04-20 Thread yurx cherio
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288797 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288797

I can confirm the problem.

When I add FreeNX repository as described here
 freenx package can only be
found via regular search but not via quick search.

My Intrepid is always up-to-date. This same behavior with freenx package
occurs on 2 different machines (one at home, one office server) so I
believe it should be reproducible elsewhere.

Hardy 8.04 amd64. I confirm the problem. It instantaneously disappears
when clicking on the result list. When launching from terminal it gives
"Segmentation fault" when crashing.
