[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-11 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
I suspect there are also other related problems here. I always used the
right control (while pressed) option, but since 13.10 it seems to
identify the Right CTRL key the same as Right ALT on my keyboard. Is
that normal???

Gnome-tweak-tool does not work here either, nothing I set there takes
effect.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-11 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Sorry, the Right CTRL thing was unrelated...

The PPA does the job, but obviously it's not the same as the good old
options.

Why the hell did they have to remove the button that brought up the
advanced keyboard options from the Gnome settings? I just HATE when
they keep removing good old things that worked, just to show people that
they are actually doing something...

I wish there was no workaround for this big otherwise it would have been
solved long ago. But if there's a workaround, Canonical thinks there is no
need to work out the solution... obviously

same here, I can also activate bluetooth from the System settings, but
this makes the panel icon virtually useless, which is a shame after it

earlier the workaround with removing the ominous line didn't work for me,
so I tried to set it to false as carl davis suggested in comment #23 and
and it works. it looks like this method should work for anyone. it somehow
removes the line anyway.
Sry, I just want to note that removing system-ca-certs=true from
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections solved the problem for me!

upgrading is not good. try to fire up a usb image and try if it it can
connect in the live mode. the problem is probably with the upgrade. but
first try to connect to a hidden network.

problem is not related to my account. I'll check if it works with an

[Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to Eduroam (worldwide WiFi network for university students)

2013-03-24 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
I'm marking this again as new, cause the definition of invalid says that
it should be a support request which it is not, because canonical cannot
provide support to solve it.

most people don't know what a CA certificate is, so you can't leave it
this way, cause they will say, that ubuntu just cannot connect and they
are moving back to windows... you have to consider what normal people
will think about this.

[Bug 956305] Re: The line Enable wireless disappears when unticked

2012-07-18 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Nothing has changed so far...

So, the problem is:
1. switching off wireless is a one-step procedure, but switching it back on is
a two-step one.
2. when switching it off, the line Enable wireless disappears giving no
obvious way how to turn it back on. A normal user would be LOST!

Still not enough reasons for fixing it?

[Bug 956305] [NEW] The line Enable wireless disappears when unticked

2012-03-15 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

This is unpleasant, because the only way of turning wireless back on is
to go to the network settings and disable the airplane mode. Not
everyone whows that there is a keyboard shortcut for this too...

Solution: the line Enable wireless should't disappear and one should
be able to reenable wireless form the nm-applet window

2012-01-07 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
@Nyjk Kyjn

I changed permissions on the folder '/usr/local/lexmark/lxk08/bin',
then everything seems to go on right way

could you explain how exactly did you change the permissions? with which
command or so...

I tried Ubuntu 11.04 and I can confirm that my printer works there too and in
any previous Ubuntu release. so, the
problem happened sometime between CUPS 1.4.6 and 1.5.0!

my behaviour is 99% the same as Nyjk's, but for me the red exclamation
mark next to the printer's icon never vanishes, but that one time when I
managed to remove it, the subsequent message was something like no
connection to the printer, so this is the only difference between our
cases.

@John Johansen

I disabled apparmor at startup as you suggested in comment #10, so it is
not apparmor that causes this. do you agree to remove it from the
affected projects?

[Bug 912702] [NEW] the window Wireless Network Authentication Required keeps popping up until the end of times even though the previous one was not closed

2012-01-06 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

I left the computer turned on for the night and in the morning I found
not less than 65, yes 65!! instances of the same window. my system
was responding very slowly. and closing one took more than a minute, so
I had to kill it manually. take a look on my screenshots, they look
really weird.

this is very annoying

solution: this window shouldn't pop up when the previous one was not
closed!

[Bug 912442] [NEW] If text in Panel's pop-up contains the _ character, the character disappears when pointer leaves the window

2012-01-05 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

usually the character _ disappears completely (joining more words into
one), other times it turns into an underline of the following character.
this happens also sometimes when the pointer leaves the window without
losing the focus (no subwindow opens), the most likely in the
Bookmarks menu on the Desktop or in Nautilus, if you have a bookmarked
folder containing this character in the name.

this is obviously caused by the fact that the underlines of a letter
mark the keyboard shortcuts to activate a function without clicking on
it,, but when the window loses the focus, this character disappears even
if it is a regular part of the text...

2011-12-30 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
@John Johansen:

I have tried all u suggested and the problem will indeed not be in
Apparmor. In ur suggestion #3 I pressed e on the bootloader screen,
then navigated to the bottom and added the line apparmor=0. was that
the right way to do that?

@Christian Boltz:

My first idea was to remove those options

I have a stupid question: where from should I remove those lines? e.g.
what is the path to that cups config file? my googling (as u suggested)
turned up some results, but nothing useful, all I have found was just
changing permissions for different folders to and fro... none of which
works.

it occurs to me that once when I tried out some tutorial the red exclamation
mark on the printer's icon in system-config-printer vanished, but when I tried
to print a test page it gave me another problem, something like no connection
to the printer... maybe not important at all, because I don't know exactly
what I did...

to be clear, I can't even finish the installation process of the driver,
after installing the driver's files, the installer prompts me to connect
the printer and press next, but when I do so, it says the printer is
not connected and I can't get to the next step. but all the driver files
appear to be installed at that point, though.

[Bug 910262] [NEW] Chromium unable to download files from certain common websites including images of Ubuntu

2011-12-30 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

At first I thought that the size is the problem, but not, because I
can download test files from this site:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/download.html and I can also download the
latest version of Ubuntu from:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download.

The sites that do not work are for instance:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ or
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M9X4BYB8. No other files work from these
sites. The download stops after a second, downloading just a couple of
megabites, then the bottom bar says interrupted. It creates a broken
file on a disk with the ending .crdownload.

FIrefox downloads all those files without problems.

Haven't seen this before... I think this might have started after an
update to Chromium 15.

result, all the time the same messages:

I did it some 50 times consecutively, am I doing something wrong?

and give you a chance to allow or deny the accesses so future runs of
the programs can work as you expect

where is it supposed to give me chances? onscreen?

2011-12-27 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
no change has been made, at least not to windows I mention in the bug
description. here is a screenshot.

btw, did I mention that Compiz config settings manager's window is
unpleasantly jumping up and down when clicking on it, trying to fill
that little space.

I think this should be of highest priority and a solution similar to
WinXP's is very professional.

[Bug 908864] [NEW] My Lexmark x2650 printer stopped working after upgrading to 11.10: Idle - File /usr/local/lexmark/lxk08/bin/printdriver has insecure permissions (0100775/uid=0/gid=2).

2011-12-26 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

I used Ubuntu 9.04 for a long time and the driver available on the
manufacturer's site:
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=contentid=DR860actp=searchviewlocale=en_USsegment=SUPPORTproductCode=LEXMARK_X2650locale=ENuserlocale=EN_USsearchid=1324929199490
worked perfectly! after installing the newest Ubuntu, I can't even
finish the installation process of the driver, the Setup says no
connection, even though there is connection to the printer, because it
appears in the list of printers when introduced to the USB.

from what I have learnt on the web, recent changes in Cups and AppArmor
caused that the connection to a printer with 3rd party driver is often
blocked. but this is too high a game for me to solve here...

have tried in another machine too, the same result, which means that
THIS PRINTER JUST STOPPED WORKING IN LINUX at all. That is sad. I have
to go back to older Ubuntu's just for the printer!

This is insane.

See my debugging results.

[Bug 527458] Re: please include status messages/tooltips

2011-12-12 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
both solutions look terrific. I like more the on-hover tooltips,
however, it might probably cause some issues with adjusting font sizes
of the tooltip text etc., which should fit different icons and that
might cause problems if the icon theme is changed. I assume this might
have been the reason why it wasn't accepted, but it is not impossible,
though...

the filenames originally contained some central-european symbols like
čšťž, etc. so first, during the compression the names were distorted,
which created unreadable content.

[Bug 844302] Re: the searchbar shouldn't vanish after clicking on the more info button in software center (gtk3)

2011-09-23 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
hmm, I see the point, Matthew, but what if it just searched the last
cathegory you were in (or the whole list if there was none specified)?
that is the most likely place you may want to search in...

I really agree with you, that it would be a little messup, if the
searchbar whas this multifuncional, but if you try to look at it from
the perspective of a normal user who is not bothered by this, it feels
annoying for him that the searchabar keeps vanishing and he is less
concerned about what it will search through, because he will be notified
anyway if he is searching through a cathegory and not the whole list.

but that is my opinion, you may disagree, of course

[Bug 843256] [NEW] any window should be able to fit into a netbook screen, if not it should be scrollable at least

2011-09-06 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

there is a couple of windows that are too large for my 10'' screen, f.e.
-the Preferences window in Nautilus
-Compiz config settings manager
-and certainly others too.
I used to work it around by decreasing the system font. and not everybody knows
that you can move the window by Alt+Button 1. in windows XP, these windows move
automatically up and down after you cross the half of the screen with the
pointer.

in terms of this, windows is more desktop optimised... so how about a
similar solution or integrate scrollability?

[Bug 839057] [NEW] Unity appmenu: the 1st item (File) can't be selected and remains looking like clicked on

if I click on one of the items in the menu and hover over the 1st item to reach
it, it behaves as if it wasn't there. and you can see the way it looks on the

I know a similar type of behaviour from natty, but the visual problem always
disappeared after clicking on the misbihaving item, so it's a different problem.

this happened on the live image form USB. I installed a couple of

nothing that could affect this behaviour in my opinion...

[Bug 782640] Re: Unity Panel: in Nautilus the Bookmarks menu has icons for the bookmarked folders, which disappear when you click on one

2011-08-29 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
I have also realized the problem with the indent, and it's also present
in the Go menu in Nautilus. in the Go menu, the indent is always slid.
in the Bookmarks menu it's only slid after the icons disappear, that's
how it behaves for me...

e.g.: some entries should have icons, but sometimes they do not. and
when the icons are not there THAT IS WHEN THE INDENT SLIDES too. is it
how your system behaves? I'm still on Natty, but Oneiric alpha 3
suffered from the same problem in my machine.

[Bug 825791] [NEW] The theme sometimes changes to fallback theme on itself, can't change it back

2011-08-13 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
Public bug reported:

In spite of the fact that the fallback theme is the one in use, my
original theme still remains selected in Appearance. I can't change the
theme, because clicking on other themes only changes it for the window
of the program Appearance, other windows stay with the fallback theme.
The icon theme will stay the fallback even in the Apprearance window.
After I log out and back in, everything is fine.

I don't know how to reproduce it yet. It happens like once in 2 weeks.

[Bug 527458] Re: please include status messages/tooltips

2011-07-25 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
treviňo and matthew, what exactly did you mean by clicking?
unconsistency of the animation of the sliding icons, or collision with
the fading part of the window title? well, it is a difficult question, I
am not a developer... but I really can imagine it to work. however, the
second idea treviňo gave is not good for me, we are trying to use space
in the most efficient way, so imagine that u have to look on the icon
just to be able to hit it with the pointer and then u have to look
somewhere else. it is not logical to have the info so far away form the
icon it belongs to, clicking or no clicking, the first idea is still
something to consider. there has been many suggestions, but when I read
the one with sliding icons, I could imagine it right away, which is not
true about any other here.

[Bug 527458] Re: please include status messages/tooltips

2011-07-25 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
damn, treviňo's idea is a break-through! but I would rather suggest
the extra information to be not the title of the icon, but real extra
info, like volume percentage, wifi signal strength, or all undisplayed
data in the calendar (like weekday, ...). u could also consider putting
(the now missing) weather info into this.

but anything u put there, treviňo's idea (with sliding icons showing
more info on the space that has been freed up) is the best damn solution
from all those 202 comments and I read all of them!! this is not
just practical and beautiful, but would also nicely fit into unity...

[Bug 587132] Re: no smooth scroll option in mouse preferences for GNOME environment

2011-07-08 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
yeah, it is still an issue... gnome 3 sadly doesn't come with
smoothscroll, as far as I know. but I have to say that the smoothscroll
in Unity 2D dashboard is terrific, that is exactly that what we are
missing in our regular windows! but still I believe, it should be
turnable off.

[Bug 593059] Re: oggconvert: sound distorted in the output file

2011-07-08 Thread zsolt . ruszinyák
the problem is still there, no matter what audio quality I select! this
kind of distortion resembles the one that occurs when changing the
sample rate during encoding, but in case of the file I tried the rate
was identical with the original one (44.100), which was FLV format, by
the way. should I upload the 2 files for u?
