[Bug 1061001] Re: Shutter only shows Wallpaper / black screen in Ubuntu 12.10 (with fglrx)

2018-09-11 Thread Photon
corqpub, this is actually
https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/1502263

Since fglrx is not in use for several years already, I think, it is safe
to close this bug. Such symptoms in the 2018 world will almost certainly
originate from Wayland usage rather than fglrx.

[Bug 1061001] Re: Shutter only shows Wallpaper / black screen in Ubuntu 12.10 (with fglrx)

2014-01-04 Thread Vernie
I recently noticed on my Asus X550DP with ATI Radeon HD 8550 768MB and
HD 8670 2048MB, the problem (captured wallpaper only) will only occur
when I use the secondary graphics device, that is the HD 8550 which is
intended for battery savings.

Using the primary graphics card, HD 8670 that is intended for
performance, gnome-screenshot and shutter captured the correct data.
One can switch between graphics card using the AMD Catalyst Control
Center and each time you switch requires a reboot. I also noticed when
using the secondary graphics device, the primary graphics device is not
listed on the Information section of the AMD Catalyst Control Center.
However, these two devices is listed when the primary graphics device is
in use. I'm using PearOS 8 that is using Ubuntu 13.04.

uname -a output:

Linux mbox 3.8.0-35-lowlatency #27-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 10
05:05:36 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

fglrxinfo output when using the primary graphics device:

display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 8600M Series
OpenGL version string: 4.2.12217 Compatibility Profile Context 12.104

2013-11-30 Thread Phillip Pether
EDIT UPDATE ***

Shutter seems to work like normal after killing it from Terminal;

$ killall shutter -9

and even tested by calling Shutter from the CLI and successfully takes a
screenshot without turning screen black with just mouse cursor. This is
only a temporary fix measure when it plays up. I've added screenshot
here with a bunch of errors it throws out from starting by command line

2013-11-29 Thread Phillip Pether
Tried taking screenshot with Shutter and it blacks the entire screen,
does this for every other screenshot options; Full Screen, Selection,
Window, etc...

I did try cleaning up the image data files stored by Shutter in the home
directory ~/.shutter I think must of been because of that, but I had
deleted them through the shutter application.

[Bug 1061001] Re: Shutter only shows Wallpaper / black screen in Ubuntu 12.10 (with fglrx)

2013-01-28 Thread Kyle Bentley
After updating to the AMD catalyst 13.1, I no longer have any trouble
with shutter. I've tried a lot of different test cases, and it is now
working fine for me! I'm not sure what exactly has fixed the problem,
since I've added the Ubuntu xorg edgers ppa. Many things have been
updated since my last post. My catalyst version is: 9.01-121106a-
150335C-EDG_Direct via catalyst control center, while synaptic shows the
installed version as 2:9.012-0ubuntu1~xedgers~quantal1.

I hope that info helps!

I think the bug occurs when using the latest available version of the

2013-01-02 Thread Photon
The driver version shouldn't be the only reason, 12.11 is actually the
latest version available and still it works here. Also Unity shouldn't
be the only reason, since Greg has the bug using KDE. I would rather
suspect that the problem is in the ubuntufied version of the driver
from Ubuntu's repos.

[Bug 1061001] Re: Shutter only shows Wallpaper / black screen in Ubuntu 12.10 (with fglrx)

2013-01-02 Thread Kyle Bentley
Now that I've updated my drivers to the newest in the Ubuntu repos, I'm
displaying some more odd behavior. The good news is that now that black
background isn't happening. My driver packaging version is 9.00.11
-120920a-147436C-ATI. 2D Driver version is 9.0.2.

When I try to take a screen cap now, it's as if shutter is reading from
the graphics adapter's memory, as if the image it takes is a snapshot of
what the screen looked like in the past. For example, When I try to
take a snapshot of my Thunderbird email client in full screen, I get an
image of my desktop instead. I was going to submit that, until I
noticed I had two pictures of my wife that I didn't really want in the
attached image. I moved those to my pictures folder, and tried to take
the screen shot of Thunderbird again. As it happens, it showed the same
background as before, pictures included. It also showed another
window, the play on linux console, which hasn't been open for at least
15 hours. I get oddities even using the select area option.

I've attached the output of my screen cap of the AMD Catalyst control
center. you can see the prompt where it asks for the administrative
password, which has already happened in the past. On another note, I'm
not sure how you are installing Catalyst 12.12, even AMD's support web
page shows 12.10 as the latest non-beta version. 12.10 (or some version
thereof) is the version in the Ubuntu repos?
