The laptop shipped with a Windows Installer, but I never ran it, because I wanted Linux right from the start. [Bug 1063485] Re: Crash on boot --- possibly atl1c-related
Tim Makarios, thank you for providing the requested information. Your Bug Description did include this information: dmi.product.version: PSC09A-017019 But I was confused due to the correct support page being from New Zealand, while I was searching toshibadirect.com. :) Anyways, as per http://www.mytoshiba.co.nz/support/computers/satellite/pro/c650/psc09a-017019/download , an upgrade is available for your BIOS (1.70). Could you please upgrade and comment on if this addresses your issue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063485 Title: Crash on boot --- possibly atl1c-related To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1063485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1063485] Re: Crash on boot --- possibly atl1c-related
On second thought, I did get an Ubuntu crash report window automatically come up while using this kernel, but it wasn't a kernel panic like I was getting sometimes with the standard kernel, and it wasn't at boot. Still, it could be a different presentation of the same underlying bug, so I'll mention it here in case it's useful. I sent the crash report, so I guess it's available somewhere to some Ubuntu developers, although I might not be able to find it if it was automatically marked as confidential. Looking at the crash report information before I sent it, I remember seeing the end of dmesg at the time, which I can now look up, and tell you that it was this: [ 705.275711] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state [ 705.277028] i915: render error detected, EIR: 0x0010 [ 705.277031] i915: IPEIR: 0x [ 705.277033] i915: IPEHR: 0x [ 705.277034] i915: INSTDONE: 0xfffe [ 705.277036] i915: INSTPS: 0x0001e000 [ 705.277037] i915: INSTDONE1: 0x [ 705.277039] i915: ACTHD: 0x01a13cb0 [ 705.277041] i915: page table error [ 705.277042] i915: PGTBL_ER: 0x0001 [ 705.277046] [drm:i915_report_and_clear_eir] *ERROR* EIR stuck: 0x0010, masking [ 705.632027] atl1c :02:00.0: vpd r/w failed. [Bug 1063485] Re: Crash on boot --- possibly atl1c-related
I installed both linux-image*amd64.deb files in the v3.6.2-quantal directory. Using this kernel, I cannot reproduce the crash any more, though I can still reproduce it with linux-image-3.2.0-32-generic. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063485 Title: Crash on boot --- possibly atl1c-related To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1063485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1063485] Re: Crash on boot --- possibly atl1c-related
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
