Re: [Bug 1088992] Re: Sony backlight brightness controls not working in 12.10

2013-08-12 Thread Dave Peck
Hello.

I have updated to the latest BIOS release for my machine, but the screen
brightness still does not change when I use the brightness controls (the
onscreen brightness slider moves, but the actual screen brightness does
not change).

The output from the dmidecode command is;
R0170D6
03/13/2012

Regards, David Peck.

[Bug 1088992] Re: Sony backlight brightness controls not working in 12.10

2012-12-12 Thread Dave Peck
I have installed and tested the v3.7 kernel as requested.

Unfortunately the v3.7 kernel does not fix the problem and it makes
Unity fail to load.

With no additional kernel command line parameters Ubuntu boots, but when
it gets to the point where the Unity login screen should appear all I
get is a blank orange screen, no cursor and no mouse pointer and from
here I can only power the machine off by holding down the power button
for 5 seconds. If I add the nomodeset kernel command line parameter then
Ubuntu boots and drops to a terminal session where I can log in, but not
start the X-server (it reports no screens present).

I'm not sure where I should be adding the 'kernel-unable-to-test-
upstream' tag. Please advise (I have never raised an Ubuntu bug report
before).

Regards, Dave.

Hi Joseph.

I don't know if you've seen my update regarding testing of this bug, but if
not I've reproduced it below for your reference -

I have installed and tested the v3.7 kernel as requested.

Unfortunately the v3.7 kernel does not fix the problem and it makes Unity
fail to load.

With no additional kernel command line parameters Ubuntu boots, but when it
gets to the point where the Unity login screen should appear all I get is a

drops to a terminal session where I can log in, but not start the X-server
(it reports no screens present).

I'm not sure where I should be adding the 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'
tag. Please advise (I have never raised an Ubuntu bug report before).

Regards, Dave.
