[Bug 1094800] Re: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4
Greetings, I also hit this issue on the recently released Toshiva Kirabook. I bisected the v3.3->v3.4 change (with the help of patching in the kvm clock fix as needed) and tracked it down to this commit: commit 2feec47d4c5f80b05f1650f5a24865718978eea4 Author: Bob Moore Date: Tue Feb 14 15:00:53 2012 +0800 ACPICA: ACPI 5: Support for new FADT SleepStatus, SleepControl registers Adds sleep and wake support for systems with these registers. One new file, hwxfsleep.c Signed-off-by: Bob Moore Signed-off-by: Len Brown Specifically, when the sleep status/control registeres are detected they are used instead of the traditional registers. The failure to resume a second time is triggered by this write in the new acpi_hw_extended_wake_prep function: status = acpi_get_sleep_type_data(ACPI_STATE_S0, &acpi_gbl_sleep_type_a, &acpi_gbl_sleep_type_b); if (ACPI_SUCCESS(status)) { sleep_type_value = ((acpi_gbl_sleep_type_a << ACPI_X_SLEEP_TYPE_POSITION) & ACPI_X_SLEEP_TYPE_MASK); (void)acpi_write((u64)(sleep_type_value | ACPI_X_SLEEP_ENABLE), &acpi_gbl_FADT.sleep_control); } Replacing that write with the corresponding code from acpi_hw_legacy_wake_prep while leaving the other acpi_hw_extended_* functions alone gets suspend/resume working consistantly. That isn't quite enough as events don't seem to get re-enabled so acpi buttons and such don't work after resume. Copying the enable power button code from acpi_hw_legacy_wake to acpi_hw_extended_wake at least gets the power button back but lid, brightness, etc remain dead. At the moment I've hacked these changes into v3.10.0-rc2 along with another hack to fix a video regression and it seems to behave reasonabley well. I'm not sure what the apropriate fix is, maybe a blacklist of devices that provide the new registers but don't implement them properly? I'll also post this to the linux-acpi list to see if anyone there offers advice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094800 Title: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1094800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug report is about failing to resume from *second* suspension, where I just get with a blank display. In 3.4-rc1 reboots while trying to resume from *first* suspend. That fix, however, was incomplete in comparision to the 3.3 and previous codelines -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094800 Title: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1094800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1094800] Re: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4
Thanks for the update. So you can't confirm if the bug exists in v3.4-rc1 or not because it reboots during resume. That might indicate that the bug for this report may not exists in rc1, since it's at least waking up. Also, when I was referring to 3.3 final, I was referring to v3.3. That kernel can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.3-precise/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094800 Title: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1094800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1094800] Re: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4
Just a note: "I'll start a bisect between v3.4-rc1 and v3.4-rc2." There seem to be a bug in v3.4-rc1, since it didn't even resume from suspend. In summary: 3.x -> 3.3.8: All working! 3.4-rc1: rebooted automatically while resuming from suspension 3.4-rc2 -> 3.8-rc2: behavior described in this report -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094800 Title: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1094800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1094800] Re: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4
Hello Joseph. I'm assuming 3.3 final is 3.3.8 - I do confirm the bug does not exist in 3.3.8 (and as far as my tests went, didn't happen in any previous kernels I tested). Let me know if you want more tests on 3.3 series. The bug, as I reported it, happens in 3.4-rc2. In 3.4-rc1 the system is able to suspend, but reboots when trying to resume from suspension ** Tags removed: performing-bisect -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094800 Title: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1094800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1094800] Re: Toshiba z930 fails to resume after second suspend on kernel >=3.4
Can you confirm the bug did not exist in v3.3 final? v3.4 is not a linear commit to v3.3.8 stable. This test will rule out that the bug was fixed in a v3.3 stable release. Also, did you test any of the v3.4 release candidates? v3.4-rc1, v3.4-rc2, etc? If not, that should be done to confirm the bug wasn't introduced in one of the release candidates. The best way to test the release candidates is to pick on in the middle, such as v3.4-rc4. If it has the bug, then test v3.4-rc2. If v3.4-rc4 does not have the bug, then test v3.4-rc6. Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1094800/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
