[Bug 112331] Re: impossible to print via cups

2008-06-11 Thread Andreas Sindermann
This is also the case with Ubuntu Hardy!

Using strace it turns out that xfig is using lp instead of lpr so that
if the environment variables LPDEST or PRINTER have been set
a wrong print command is created (mixture of lp with BSD lpr options),
in this example the queue 'x1' is preselected via LPDEST/PRINTER:

[pid 16884] execve("/usr/bin/lp", ["lp", "-o raw", "-Px1"], [/* 42 vars
*/]

/usr/share/doc/xfig/README.gz says:

If you have a SYSV system but use BSD-style printing (lpr instead of lp) you
must define -DBSDLPR in the Imakefile/Makefile.

So either xfig needs to be recompiled with this option switched on or it needs
to be recompiled so that it will use SYSV options ("-d x1" instead of "-Px1").

[Bug 112331] Re: impossible to print via cups

2007-09-10 Thread Pierre Frenkiel
the error comes from the lp implementation: some guy there did'nt know that
usually, lp and lpr MUST behave as filters, i.e. accept stdin when no file
argument is given, This not tha case with this Lp, which needs a "-" as
file argument (cf "man lp"). One obviuos solution would be
to let the user choose the print command used by xfig. Meanwhile,
Ill be obliged to replace lp by a link to lpr, or to do an export
