[Bug 1162360] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude E6420] suspend/resume failure
I have also updated to A19 and my E6420 still will not properly resume from sleep. My output from sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date is A19 06/24/2013. Steve Moon has already described exactly what I see. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162360 Title: [Dell Inc. [Bug 1162360] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude E6420] suspend/resume failure
Steve Moon / Steve C. Holt, despite you both having Dell E6420 computers, could you please file a report by executing the following in a terminal while booted into a Ubuntu repository kernel (not a mainline one) via: ubuntu-bug linux For more on this, please read the official Ubuntu documentation: Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu Bug Squad: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue Ubuntu Kernel Team: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Filing_Kernel_Bug_reports Ubuntu Community: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. Please note, not filing a new report would delay your problem being addressed as quickly as possible. [Bug 1162360] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude E6420] suspend/resume failure
I updated my 6420's BIOS from A08 to A19 and found the same behavior -- if the computer goes to sleep the X session accepts no mouse clicks, though the mouse pointer will still move. I can ctrl-alt-f6 (or f4 etc.) and get to a text console, log in, sudo, kill the active X session and log into the computer again. This isn't exactly a useful workaround. For the time being I have set the system to do nothing when I close the lid -- instead of sleep. This doesn't help my battery life, but I keep it plugged in most of the time. I'd love to see a fix for this.
Dwayne Sullivan, as per www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/latitude-e6420 an update is available for your BIOS (A19). If you update to this, does it change anything? If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a19 needs-upstream-testing potential regression ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162360 Title: [Dell Inc. [Bug 1162360] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude E6420] suspend/resume failure
In my opinion, this deserves a higher severity than medium. Without the ability to suspend/resume, 13.04 is unusable on my E6420. I am stuck on 12.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162360 Title: [Dell Inc.
