I found some troubleshooting documentation that helped out. I wound up editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. In the Monitor Section, I put in the HorizSync and VertRefresh values for the Hyundai L90D+ display that I looked up on their web site: HorizSync 31-80, VertRefresh 56-75. I rebooted and now I can select 1280x1024. It seems the monitor auto- detection still has troubles, but at least there's an easy workaround. Well, I tried both those commands and didn't have any luck. It DID add a 4th option to the resolution list (1152x768 @ 55 Hz) that I didn't select when running the command. And it also doesn't work at all. My display says Video mode not supported when I select it. It times out and goes back to 1024x768.
