So should I reassign this bug to LibreOffice? The behaviour persisted in
the most recent builds I tried.

2011-01-27 Thread Dave Neary
And just to document the workaround for sticky keys here: hitting Alt
twice dismisses the file menu, and locks Alt for sticky keys (until Alt
is pressed a third time), so to switch windows you can do Alt-Alt-Tab-
Alt (in that order) to achieve the same effect as Alt-Tab.

2011-01-27 Thread Chris Wilson
Rather than reassigning this bug to LibreOffice, a new report should be
filed instead. Even though this is not a valid paper cut, since
OpenOffice is in the Software Centre, it's a valid bug.

If someone who understands this bug could file a report against
LibreOffice as well as One Hundred Paper Cuts, that would be awesome.

There are already subscribers to this bug report. Let's just open the LibO task
here , we know the bug
This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You
can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream .
Once submitted upstream , do report back here with the upstream bug
number.Thanks in advance!

[Bug 123500] Re: [upstream] Alt-key behavior doesn't match the rest of Ubuntu

2011-01-27 Thread Dave Neary
Perhaps I can re-explain the bug if you don't understand it, Chris? It's
quite simple. When you hit Alt and release it in OpenOffice.org or
LibreOffice, the File menu is activated (same as if you hit Alt-F). This
doesn't match every other GNOME or KDE application, and (importantly)
prevents StickyKeys from working properly.

StickyKeys allows people who can't chord on the keyboard (say, people
with babies on their knees, or with one arm, or with stiffness in their
fingers) to still be able to do things like Ctrl-C or Alt-Tab, because
they can hit the Alt key, and it's sticky until the next key is hit -
so they first hit Alt, then hit Tab, and they switch applications.

Vish: The bug has already been reported upstream in OOo:
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=80604 Isn't that good
enough?

Dave, LibO being a fork is now using FDO:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org//describecomponents.cgi?product=LibreOffice .
I wouldnt expect /all/ old OOo bugs to just be switched over. it is better if
we report the bug at FDO.

2011-01-26 Thread Chris Wilson
Since LibreOffice is going to replace OpenOffice in 11.04, the
OpenOffice task on this bug is no longer valid. Can someone who is
familiar with this bug please text out the LibreOffice package in the
repos and see if the bug is still present? This can be done either using
the latest Natty daily build, or pulling down onto you current deaktop
installation from the Software Centre.

2011-01-26 Thread Chris Wilson
Sorry, when I said the 'OpenOffice task is no longer valid' I meant with
respect to the One Hundred Paper Cuts task. Since LibreOffice is going
to replace OpenOffice in April, this can only be considered a paper cut
if the bug is still in LibreOffice.

[Bug 123500] Re: [upstream] Alt-key behavior doesn't match the rest of Ubuntu

2009-11-20 Thread Eric Brasseur
I almost never restart my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6000, using Ubuntu
9.04), only put it to sleep. After a few days I get this strange
behavior with OpenOffice. Shortly after it is started, the Files menu
just pops open. It will go on popping open and close, sometimes shifting
to other menus, whatever I do. That makes OpenOffice unusable. The only
solution is to at least log out from Gnome and log back in. I've tried
to kill and restart metacity but it didn't help. Having to log out and
back in, is a problem because I've programs open on non-savable
positions.
