Thanks for your comment. You're absolutely right about livecd/alternate. usplash needs to probe good resolution automatically at boot. [Bug 127414] Re: Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output)
Soory for not responding earlier. Mine sort of works too. On my Philips 20" 200W6 TFT (1680x1050) usplash now displays, albeit at a lower resolution of 1024x768. That's ok for now though, but it would be nice to close the bug fully. I have an install script, part of which changes the resolution of usplash so it's not a huge problem for me. >From what I can remember on my Dell XPS M1330, if I install from the Alternate CD, the usplash resolution is wrong. But if I install from the Live CD it's ok. I think my usplash shows as 1600x1200 now on a 1920x1200 panel, I'm happy with that (Hardy). Also here it is now: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/usplash.conf # Usplash configuration file # These parameters will only apply after running update-initramfs. xres=1920 yres=1200 Seems fine. [Bug 127414] Re: Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output)
I've also had a similiar problem today, but usplash detected a resolution of 1440x1440 on my LG L194WT. Manually setting it to 1440x900 and regenerating the initrd solved the issue. I've also had a lot of trouble configuring X for the widescreen, but I'll report this in a separate bug. Wow, thanks for responding so quickly. I've tried the Windows app you mentioned, I'll post the output. I've also run "sudo xresprobe vesa" and got the output from that. [Bug 127414] Re: Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output)
I probably should have checked before I said it "probably wasn't a ddcprobe bug", but my monitor (NEC 20WMGX2) reports 1680x1680, too. ctiming: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've never seen this under Windows, so the possibility is good that it's a problem with the X server's detection of widescreens. [Bug 127414] Re: Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output)
If you have a Windows installation available you may run EnTech's Monitor Asset Manager: http://entechtaiwan.net/util/moninfo.shtm to rule out the possibility of it being a ddcprobe/X server DDC bug. If 1680x1680 or 1600x1200 are listed there also, then your monitor's firmware has a problem. -- Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 127414] Re: Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output)
It looks like your monitor has a bug in the EDID (you could re-upload a fixed version to the monitor but it's probably not worth the risk). Any Philips 200W6 series LCD (20.1" widescreen) should have a max/native resolution of 1680x1050, not 1680x1680 as reported by DDC. Unfortunately with this reportedly wrong information, usplash can't select the proper resolution. Apparently your monitor doesn't support 1680x1680 as it says (some monitors can report higher resolutions then downscale them). You should instead contact Philips about their monitor's firmware being incorrect. If it can not display 1680x1680 it should not be in the EDID. 1600x1200 is incorrectly listed for your LCD as well. There's always a chance it's a bug in ddcprobe but I really doubt this. -- Incorrect resolution in usplash.conf (no output) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
