[Bug 1304568] Re: Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel & launch
Since no answer has been found, I went elsewhere, in fact to the support people at "System76.com" There after talking about my problem the gentleman suggested that my problem might be in the /home directory which I had carefully preserved each time an installation was done. So I reunstalled 14.04LTS and changed the name of /home and installed new /home on the SSD PROBLEM FIXED. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1304568 Title: Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel & launch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1304568/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1304568] Re: Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel & launch
Found a way to do the apport-collect thing, I wiil try to attach it here ** Tags added: apport-collected trusty ubuntu ** Description changed: Have used 14.04LTS Beta 2 for about a week, it was an in place upgrade, all seemed well. However this morning starting the system I got the background but no panel and no launcher. Right click on the screen gave the settings menu and all settings could be accessed, but still no launcher or panel. I downloaded 14.04LTS Beta2 and made a USB stick, did a complete install, formatting "/" but not the other paritions. When restarted again no panel, no launcher but access to the settings menuis available. I used to be able to start terminal by using ctrl+alt+t, but that does not work anymore. ICannot access anything on the perfectly good screen. Shutting down by pressing the startup knob and then restarting provides the sam eproblem. + + --- + ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.1 + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: trusty + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + EcryptfsInUse: Yes + GraphicsCard: + Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0412] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) +Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:d000] + InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-05-17 (1 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) + MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. [Bug 1304568] Re: Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel & launch
I do not have the system available at all, when last I started from an external dvd, (12.10) the main screen remained blank, no further acces exisited, thus no way of providing any more info. Please note that in earlier posts I indicated that I tried different monitors, all to no avail as well. Furthermore, with 3 different Linux versions tried, each presenting the same problem, (each of them installed formatting the "/" partition) I finally concluded that my new (Nov 2013) motherboard could be at fault, so I have instigated warranty service on that. I must add, that I have 2 other instances of 14.04LTS Beta2 and they are working just fine running updates and generally behaving well. My repaired motherboard wil take some time to be installed again so I cannot help anymore except reporting any problems that might prop up. Hopefully none will.
This is a symptom of the compiz program not running for some reason, likely due to a local (user-specific) configuration issue. We're going to need a littl e bit more information about your system configuration. Please open a terminal (or, if not possible, switch to an alternate VT using control-alt-F1) and enter the command apport-collect 1304568 which will collect local configuration information and attach it to this bug for further analysis. In addition, please attach the file $HOME/.cache/upstart/gnome-session- Unity.log to this bug. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1304568 Title: Upgrade 12.04 LTS to 14.04LTS Beta 2 lost panel & launch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1304568/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
