The syslog file contains various warning and error messages related to external devices. Unfortunately, I am not sure how to further debug your problem. I suggest that you create a thread on Ubuntu forums [1] and try to get more people involved into resolving this. Other than that, make sure that your system never overheats, not even after several hours, and run some general tests to detect hardware failures. Overheating is a common problem and may be the cause of random freezes. Does your system freeze completely without recovering or can you still switch to the linux console (Ctrl+Alt+F1)? I have not tried the linux console option. May be next time I will if the freeze occures I can get back to you with the option. The log files requested are attached. The Heating problem did occur before using Xubuntu. As my laptop operating temp is between 5-35 deg C, it used to get frozen due to heat. Hello, Unfortunately freezing don't show a pattern. Sometime it do gets frozen after 5-10 mins, somtime after 30-40 mins. I went through somme other bugs reported regarding freezing issue after log in. But in my case I can't really relate to that! I wish I could give you more detail about this. Don't get me wrong but I am also wonderiing if I installed the correct Linux distributionn or not. I have a HP Pavilion dm1 mini laptop.
