[Bug 145718] Re: [Gutsy] Allow to choose a different version of nVidia driver

2010-03-10 Thread zeroseven0183
I believe that as early as Ubuntu 8.10 this feature is already
available. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and I can see options

I think it would be really convenient to allow a user to choose among
different drivers in the restricted drivers manager.

[Bug 145718] Re: [Gutsy] Allow to choose a different version of nVidia driver

2007-10-15 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Ubuntu already ships 3 different nvidia drivers: nvidia-glx-legacy (7xxx
series), nvidia-glx (9xxx series), and nvidia-glx-new (100.xxx series).
If you don't want to use the 100 series drivers, it should be as simple
as "sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx", providing that the 9xxx series
drivers actually support your card.

If what you are asking for is a way of selecting this driver from the
restricted drivers manager, then it might be a good idea to re-target
this bug at that package.

2007-10-13 Thread Omaha
I fully agree on your proposal.Either the 9xxx driver as default, or a
choice between them.

I've had this problem since the early beta of the 100.xx.xx driver and
it is persistent in both Feisty and Gutsy. Had to reinstall Gutsy Rc and
install the 9xxx with "manual" configuration. Although this might be the
wrong fora, using the 100.xx.xx driver as default will hit newbies -
trying Ubuntu for the first time - straight in the planet. I'm using a
mainstream HP Pav 6xxx. So are manymany others
