[Bug 146394] Re: xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace
Tony: it just means that the bug is in mesa. Nvidia has it's own libGL. It also seems that the issue happens only when there is no DRI (vesa, vmware ..). Please try to reproduce on hardy, and report back if it still crashes or not. ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: xorg-server => mesa ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146394] Re: xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace
I'm not sure how relevant this is to other people reporting this problem, but up until today, I've been rolling my own kernel and manually installing the Nvidia driver. Today I decided (for various reasons) to revert to the Ubuntu stock kernel and driver and have found that the crash no longer happens. So certainly in my own case, using the stock kernel fixes this bug. I have a feeling though that it might be some underlying mis-match between various GLX-related modules. GLX wasn't initially working when I reverted kernels (but at least not crashing X) and I found from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=378982 that the installation of Ubuntu's Nvidia driver was failing to over-write the links to other versions of a lot of libraries. Sorting out those links enabled GLX for me, without the crashes. -- xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think bug 145881 (raised against xscreensaver) is actually one manifestation of this bug. On my system, it's not just xscreensaver that causes the problem, but I also see it when I run Google Earth or Internet Explorer (using WINE) -- xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 146394] Re: xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace
Interesting, I noticed the same. I disabled power management on the screensaver, but found that even at gdm login, if I just let it sit there, it would restart as well.. dunno if Xscreensaver works at gdm login, I didn't think it did. I'm using the vesa driver. But I just switched this morning to the fglrx to see if I get any more stability (ha!!!) I noticed too, that suspend was undergoing the same "fun". -l On 10/4/07, Roel Groeneveld <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I'm having the same problem: Xorg crashes randomly. I'm having the same problem: Xorg crashes randomly. The Xorg.0.log also states "Caught signal 11. Server aborting". In my case, it only happens when I am not sitting behind the pc. I presume it has to do with the screensaver kicking in.
