[Bug 1509776] Re: xubuntu 15.10 synaptics ps2 touchpad mouse cursor jumps
I am currently using 15.04 with kernel 3.19.0-61 with no problem. I have tried 4.30 in 15.04 with no problem. I have only tried 15.10 and 16.04 run from a usb stick but the problem is there in 15.10 with both kernels 4.2.0-16 and 4.30 and whatever 16.04 had on release. The problem is linked to the 15.10 release not the kernel version; a different driver?. Incidentally the bug is also present in lubuntu 16.04, but maybe this is predictable. If you really think it will help I will install 16.04 instead of testing it from a usb stick but it is a lot of trouble as I have to then re-install 15.04 and all my other software; the bug makes 16.04 unusable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509776 Title: xubuntu 15.10 synaptics ps2 touchpad mouse cursor jumps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1509776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1509776] Re: xubuntu 15.10 synaptics ps2 touchpad mouse cursor jumps
The following sequence of operations produces the bug every time. xubuntu 16.04 as released, default settings for touchpad. Open file manager window on directory big enough to require scrollbar. Using touchpad move mouse pointer onto scrollbar slider. Press and hold down left (pad) button. Using right finger on touchpad operate scroll slider. So far all operates correctly. Remove R finger from touchpad to stop scroll but still holding down L button. Replace R finger on touchpad to resume scrolling and mouse pointer jumps to the right, often to the screen edge. If before replacing the R finger the L button is released and repressed scrolling can be resumed correctly.

Sorry I am being slow to think. I tried installing kernel 4.30 in 15.04 in place of 3-3.19-0-31 and the bug is not present with either but it is present in 15.10 with either 4.30 or 4.2.0-16. Re: [Bug 1509776] Re: xubuntu 15.10 synaptics ps2 touchpad mouse cursor jumps
Thank you for looking into this problem. I am sorry that the information I have given is so limited but I ran 15.10 from a memory stick, without installing, to check that it would work before actually installing, and discovered the problem. I am not going to install 15.10 as it is more-or-less unusable with this problem and I do not want to install it to get debug info and reinstall 15.04 to continue to use the machine. I do not khow the live versions work but will the apport command work and can I install xdiagnose, if so I will do this. 15.04 run from a usb stick does not show the same problem so it is something that has been changed. [Bug 1509776] Re: xubuntu 15.10 synaptics ps2 touchpad mouse cursor jumps
liontamer, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1509776/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
