[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2008-10-30 Thread Bryce Harrington

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we
may be able to pass upstream for help.

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2008-10-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi a-wolter,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from
cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

The output of lspci -vvnn would also be worth having.

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2008-02-04 Thread Andrey
The monitor's configuration are ok. I hava a Sansung SyncMaster 740n.
I used nvidia-glx driver in feisty, with the same hardware (monitor and
graphics card), and without problems.
I dont know whats wrong.
Maybe the solution is downgrade to feisty... ;-(

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2008-02-02 Thread awol
Well,

now i'm using nvidia-glx i.e. - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x/X.Org driver

xorg.conf pieces below.

note it's in 16 bit mode so you wont get the fancier options in the
Appearence menu, but OpenGL still works. Also i dropped the composite
switch.

Are your Monitor Synch ranges good ??

have a look in System Administration Screens and Graphics for a
monitor that matches yours.

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2007-11-01 Thread David Wynn
The error message you listed indicates that you're using nvidia-glx-new.
That one is not intended for use with a GeForce 3. The nvidia-glx is,
although you may need to do some tweaking under nvidia-xconfig.

For the record, there are now two generations of legacy drivers. That's
why there's now three different versions of nvidia-glx.

According to nvidia, these cards are supported by the nvidia-glx-new driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_18897.html

Cards supported by the two legacy drivers are here. nvidia-glx cards first,
then nvidia-glx-legacy cards:

tried a bunch of options (some) as were used in Feisty - no use.

well - that tells the story. the legacy driver is required despite NOT
being necessary in Feisty AND indication in the package descriptions
that GForce3 needs standard nvidia-glx.

nvidia-glx-legacy works giving screen-blanker 3d support and 3d support
for games like trigger. gnome GUI extras are NOT supported.

here some pieces of my working xorg.conf -

snip

Option AddARGBVisualsTrue
Option AddARGBGLXVisuals True

Option AllowGLXWithComposite True

the AllowGLXWithComposite allows screenblanker 3d, 3d games (eg.
trigger), and blender3d, with this hardware/driver.

hope this helps.

thanks ubuntu.

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2007-10-25 Thread David Wynn
Found this yesterday:
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3087867.0

Try 'man nvidia-xconfig'. There are a lot of options here, and what works for
one, may not work for all. Try to think back as to whether there was anything
you needed to tweak for your card in Feisty.. Personally, in Feisty, I had to
add this to the Screen section of xorg.conf to keep my screen from locking up:
 Option NvAGP 0
In Gutsy, this is accomplished by sudo nvidia-xconfig --nvagp=0.

If you still have it available, look back at your Feisty xorg.conf for
hints that may determine what you need to add.

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy

2007-10-24 Thread David Wynn
I use Kubuntu, so can't help on the Gnome front. There may be something
with your computer trying to run Compiz Fusion -- which is supposed to
be installed by default in Gutsy for machines that can handle it.

That being said, according to nvidia, the GeForce 3 should be supported
by the later drivers included in nvidia-glx. There are issues with the
nvidia-glx driver in Gutsy that were not present in Feisty. nvidia-glx
worked find in Feisty for my GeForce FX 5700 LE. In Gutsy, I get basic
KDE functionality, but anything that requires glx is broken.

As an example, under Gutsy, when I run glxgears, the window that
*should* show a set of moving gears is just blank. Meanwhile, in the
console screen where I ran the glxgears command, its showing appalling
performance calculations around 1.0 fps or less, until it finally
crashes.

I don't think that the issue is a matter of your card not being
supported as much as it seems to be an issue of nvidia-glx not working
correctly.
