Having the same Problem. It's 17.04 (newest). I can confirm this bug which I can reproduce since many Ubuntu releases. This is why I switched to Fedora --> No problems! I can confirm, that restarting Network Manager CAN help, but not always! The best thing to do is to restart Network Manager and immediately refresh a web page. Pinging doesn't work reliable. This time, I can reproduce this bug with Ubuntu 17.04 Alpha/Beta. [Bug 1566987] Re: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network
this is a thought/hack only for consideration: searching online: a debian[-testing] user had issues with a t460 (power-management or wake from suspend on battery; yes a different issue to you; {stefon:2016-03-26}) which was fixed with a later 4.5 kernel. the following is a link to install another kernel should you feel comfortable to try. http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2016/05/install-linux-kernel-4-6-ubuntu-16-04/ note: I would NOT delete your existing kernel. I am also assuming you have GRUB installed. If there are problems select an older kernel (at grub menu) & just remove (dpkg -r) the newer kernel. This is something you might want to consider trying/testing. Any questions, please ask. Yan don't get your hopes up; I'm not a dev, and won't be able to fix the problem, I just HOPE to come up with something better for you. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Chris Guiver (guiverc) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566987 Title: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1566987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1566987] Re: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network
Thanks Yan Your responses point towards a module (driver) problem (yes bug) to me, and my 'dirty-workaround' won't help. I'll give it some thought and play around with the wireless on my x201 & t43 (closest I have to your t460) & see if I come up with anything. ps: today/tomorrow i'm unlikely to be on web; so expect response (my) thursday or later. next dirty workaround|hack coming to mind is disabling & re-enabling wireless. have you tried this? or did it do anything? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566987 Title: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1566987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

a comment in bugzilla.gnome noted your machine had changed bandwidth. do you have problems with your wireless connection (paula) with other devices? is it a crowded location (dorm/university or setting where lots of people use wireless devices)? is there any fridge(refrigerator), microwave oven or like object that can block traffic between you & ruoter when you have issues? ie. normal troubleshooting for wireless has been followed thru with? any thoughts (another question I didn't get answer to on irc #ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566987 Title: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1566987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1566987] Re: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network
when it's "not working" can you ping (icmp echo request) your router? "ping 192.168.1.1" (when using "paula" network) if the answer is YES; you might want to try adding a "nameserver" to the /etc/resolv.conf DNS lookup file when you've problems. eg. adding the line "nameserver 8.8.8.8" if this (dirty horrid work-around) works; you could could put in a file; you run when you have problems (say in /usr/local/bin/, or better ~/bin if you have one). this is NOT a fix; a thought about a dirty-work-around after discussion ended on #ubuntu earlier.
[Bug 1566987] Re: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network
After some time that the network worked without further problems, I'm now back to where I was before, but with some changes. After boot, there is no internet connection although I'm connected to my local WLAN. But after some minutes, the connection does work. Usually, after another (longer) period of time, the connection stops working again. I can't find anything that would trigger such behavior. I noticed something: When I'm connected to my home network ("paula") and there is no internet connection, I can connect to a mobile hotspot of my smartphone and then I do have internet access. As soon as I reeconnect to my home network, the connection is broken again. Today I ran the wireless info script (https://github.com/UbuntuForums /wireless-info) in three scenarios: 1) After boot, connected to home network, no internet connection 2) Connected to mobile hotspot instead of home network, internet connection is working 3) Connected to home network and waited a while, internet connection is working I attach the three files with the output. Can somebody please help me? It's so annoying - and it's been months already. ** Attachment added: "Case 1) - no working connection" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1566987/+attachment/4762599/+files/1-wireless-info-not-working.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1566987 Title: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1566987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1566987] Re: No internet connection through WLAN although connected to network
I have been struggling with this problem for two months now. Since it was suggested that this bug is a Network Manager bug, I had filed a report there: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=765578 But after many attempts, it seems that this is not related to Network Manager. So I'm coming back here hoping to finally be able to use wireless without problems. I'm currently running kernel 4.6 and Network Manager 1.2.0. After boot and after suspend, wireless doesn't work (most of the times), i.e. I'm connected to WLAN, but I have no internet access. Through ethernet (cable) it does work always. And after being connected through ethernet for a while, the wireless connection does work (with the cable unplugged). See detailed reports in the bug report. Can anybody please help me? It's so annoying to depend on a wired connection.
