[Bug 1634537] Re: mnemosyne appears to connect to PRISM company on OpenSM2
I'll gladly accept any patch that works in a equally robust manner. Or would you feel better if rather than connecting to Google we connected to another site with near 100% uptime? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634537 Title: mnemosyne appears to connect to PRISM company on OpenSM2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mnemosyne/+bug/1634537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

...but the metadata that someone made a connection from my ip is present on their servers. It is a 'well known trick' yes, but one that relies on betraying our metadata to a 3rd party known for betraying the privacy of its users, nevermind those who are accidentally opening sockets without realizing what they are doing.
[Bug 1634537] Re: mnemosyne appears to connect to PRISM company on OpenSM2
The nice thing about open source is that you can exactly see what's going on and what data is sent across (if any). In this case, I'm using a well-known trick in Python to determine your local IP address by opening a connection to an ubiquitously available site, and then using that connection to get your local IP address. As you can see, absolutely no data is sent across. ** Changed in: mnemosyne (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634537 Title: mnemosyne appears to connect to PRISM company on OpenSM2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mnemosyne/+bug/1634537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
