What is the status of this bug? Is it more relevant to package the wade
in stead of Vodafone Mobile Connection Card Drivers Linux?

Anybody?

2009-05-18 Thread Pablo Martí
Hi Jarl,

thank you for your interest in wader/VMC. To be honest it makes sense to
package them both, they are established and have a significant user
base, and they are going to co-exist for a long time. You might want to
coordinate yourself with Alexander Sack ( @asac ), the Ubuntu
NetworkManager maintainer, who expressed interest on packaging both
projects too just a couple of days ago. Both projects already sport a
debian dir, so it should be a matter of checking that the packaging
conforms with Ubuntu/Debian guidelines.

Regards,
Pablo

First I would like to thank you for an excellent application.

Would it be possible for the application to support other networks
besides vodafone? I have heard of other people editing the config file
manually to get access to networks like Orange, TMobile etc. Would be
nice if people weren't restricted to just the vodafone network.

Thanks

NM 0.7 is capable of dialing up with 3G devices yes, and is gonna be
_the solution_ for dialing up. However NM 0.7 currently lacks the
ability of changing the band or the connection mode. Those operations
are implemented with proprietary at extensions by every vendor.
ModemManager ( http://trac.warp.es/wader/wiki/WhatsModemManager ) comes
to the rescue. Wader (which is how we named the project) will implement
its API and as it supports almost 30 devices right now we're pretty sure
it will be used with NetworkManager 0.8. Till that happens we also
provide a simple gtk+ UI for dialing up and other operations.

Regards,
Pablo

2008-09-19 Thread Pablo Martí

[Bug 164369] Re: [needs-packaging] Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver for Linux

2007-11-24 Thread Pablo Martí
I'm the main developer behind this application and I'd be more than happy to
provide assistance or even maintain it. My development platform is Ubuntu and
its already included on some Ubuntu-derived distros like Guadalinex or Linex.
Further, there's a blueprint where this package is mentioned and proposed
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/gprs-connection-out-of-the-box
although it needs guidance.

[Bug 164369] Re: [needs-packaging] Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver for Linux

2007-11-24 Thread ReonToerien
Hi Pablo,

First I would like to thank you for an excellent application.

Would it be possible for the application to support other networks
besides vodafone? I have heard of other people editing the config file
manually to get access to networks like Orange, TMobile etc. Would be
nice if people weren't restricted to just the vodafone network.

Thanks
Reon

I'm no longer involved with the development of VMC, so if you want it
included in Ubuntu you should contact the current maintainers at
https://forge.vodafonebetavine.net/projects/vodafonemobilec/ In the
mean time, we've forked VMC and we're preparing an integration with
NetworkManager 0.8 http://public.warp.es/vmc

What about the "show signal strength" function? This is currently
lacking in networkmanager, which makes it less functional than the
Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver.

Rean,

when you reply to Launchpad via email, NEVER quote the original message
because this makes people's email addresses public and so you make them
subject to spam mail. Would you please send an email to Canonical and
ask them to remove my email address from your post. Thank you.

Regards,
Pablo
