NM 0.7 is capable of dialing up with 3G devices yes, and is gonna be _the solution_ for dialing up. However NM 0.7 currently lacks the ability of changing the band or the connection mode. Those operations are implemented with proprietary at extensions by every vendor. ModemManager ( http://trac.warp.es/wader/wiki/WhatsModemManager ) comes to the rescue. Wader (which is how we named the project) will implement its API and as it supports almost 30 devices right now we're pretty sure it will be used with NetworkManager 0.8. Till that happens we also provide a simple gtk+ UI for dialing up and other operations. -- [needs-packaging] Vodafone Mobile Connect Card Driver for Linux https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Jarl, thank you for your interest in wader/VMC. To be honest it makes sense to package them both, they are established and have a significant user base, and they are going to co-exist for a long time. You might want to coordinate yourself with Alexander Sack ( @asac ), the Ubuntu NetworkManager maintainer, who expressed interest on packaging both projects too just a couple of days ago. Both projects already sport a debian dir, so it should be a matter of checking that the packaging conforms with Ubuntu/Debian guidelines.
