[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2022-04-26 Thread Sebastian
Eh... so on a fresh 22.04 installation (dell xps 13) my internet connection
drops rougly every minute or so. It all worked fine on 21.04, the wifi hasn't
changed.
This is horrible I have to say not sure if this is the right bug report for
it. Any terminal output I should present?

2020-10-01 Thread Michael Jensen
I have the same problem. On wired connection it constantly disconnects and
connects.
I am running Ubuntu VM inside vmware with NAT network adapter setting.
It had been stable for a long time, but this last week has been incredible
horrible.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2020-05-02 Thread Fabrício Pereira
I fixed in my network, but the problem was in router security settings.

Maybe the issue is in the security settings from the router, according
to this link: [https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1533/][1]

In the router page, I discovered that the MAC address from my laptop was
in a "Blocked DoS Host List", then I cleaned this list. Additionally, I
increased the threshold values to 500.

2020-04-27 Thread Fabrício Pereira
I uninstalled the network-manager, and started using the traditional
Linux networking service with wpa_supplicant, but the problem continues.

The wifi connects and ping to my router IP. But seems to don't lookup
over DNS correctly.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2019-12-18 Thread Kent Lion
Perhaps this can help: The symptoms I experience started sometime during
the past year after an update (sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade &&
sudo apt autoremove) are that some indefinite time (usually less than ½
hour) after I log on, the network disconnects without warning or error.
Clicking on the up/down arrows of the indicator plugin and selecting the
interface reconnects; however, I recently discovered that if, as soon as
I log on, I select "Disconnect" and then select the adapter to
reconnect, my session will be fine until I log out and back in again. So
perhaps the bug is not with network-manager, samba or ifupdown, but with
the logon process(es). My version is 18.04 and I'm using LiteDM GTK+. I
haven't the faintest idea where to look for a cause that might be
related to the logon process(s), but none of the very many "solutions"
offered on various web pages I found on the problem have fixed it for
me.

One other unexpected thing I've noticed is that in editing Ethernet
connections (I don't used wireless enough to have noticed a problem), I
can't edit (or delete) the one the system creates without first adding
another (even if it's the same, e.g., enp2s0, with the same settings)
and switching to it; however, after I did that the first time, and
deleted the system's entry ("Wired connection 1", I think it was
called), at some point the system added another entry, identical in
every way to the one I had added, but called "Ifupdown (enp2s0)" and
connects to that when I log on, not to the one I created (which I have
since deleted, but the original problem still occurs, and disconnecting
and reconnecting still prevents the random disconnect).

All of this applies to 2 other machines, also running up-to-date xubuntu
18.04, although on one of the other machines, the adapter is enp4s25. It
also occurs with xubuntu and xfce sessions. I suspect the difficutly in
finding the cause(s) is in part due to the confusing way samba/network
settings are stored, with the same setting sometimes stored in different
locations, entered via GUI or command line or both, possibly leading to
conflicts.

I have spent many hours on this problem, and have only the above work-
around, not a fix. Even though this problem has been around longer than
18.04, since 18.04, samba has clearly been broken, and until networking
is as reliable and as easy to set up as in Windows, (x/l/k)ubuntu will
not be suitable for typical home users.

Manually entering the dns servers in the /etc/netplan yaml file worked
for me. Perhaps a workaround would be to have the netplan file pull the
dns servers from dhcp and then populate the yaml file?

See this fix article:

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2019-07-14 Thread Tom Reynolds
Hi.

I am just a fellow Ubuntu user, but I am afraid this bug report is most
likely not something anyone could solve, because so many different
chipsets and issues are being discussed here (I assume this is also why
no developers felt inclined to touch it so far).

I very much recommend that anyone still experiencing wireless issues should
(look for, and if none exists) file a new bug against their wireless driver,
and anyone with Ethernet issues should (look for, and if none exists) file a
new bug against their Ethernet driver. Your drivers will usually be listed in
the output of one of these commands:
lspci -knn
lsusb

You are also welcome to check back with community support to check whether a
fix (or a workaround) is already available for your very issue, or just to get
help with filing a bug report that is specific and can get handled more easily.
https://ubuntu.com/support/community-support

If TylerKinkade's issue (where both Wireless and Ethernet disconnect at
the same time, on a now supported Ubuntu version) persists then it is
more likely a platform (hardware / mainboard / ACPI / firmware) specific
issue and should be treated as such, affecting Inspiron 5567 with this
specific Ubuntu version (was 16.04.1 originally).

I am facing the same problem with 2 wired connections. No matter what I
do, if I connect with 1st ethernet or switch to 2nd wired, the problem
persists. After boot up, when the problem starts, I switch the cable of
ethernet and temporally the problem finishes.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2019-01-16 Thread Dan Candeto
Persists on a freshly reinstalled system.

Output from ping -i6 [host] follows. Note the spike in ping time and
high packet loss.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2019-01-14 Thread Dan Candeto
I'm experiencing what may be the same thing in bug #1804280. I can't
duplicate the issue on wireless networks, only Ethernet (but the issue
is the same whether I use the onboard Ethernet or a USB Ethernet
interface).

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2019-01-11 Thread elpidio
I can't add to much, apart from saying that this bug affects me too.
Wired and wireless internet connectivity fails about 2 or 3 times per
hour. Sometimes it comes back after a couple of minutes, particularly
if I diconnect and reconnect the wirelss connection. I use Lubuntu 18.04
on an Asus X99 Deluxe II motherboard. It's annoying !

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2018-12-16 Thread Marc
I experienced the same problem (wired AND wireless both down) on KDE
Neon 18.04

Tried several things
- plug in a LAN cable
- restart network service
- 2 reboots
- checked that my router was not down (I had internet access on my cell phone
wifi)

The laptop is dual boot W10-KDE Neon
Booting W10 --> I have network connection again.
Boot KDE Neon again --> network wifi and Ethernet works again

Unfortunately I cannot provide debug/error msgs as the problem was quickly
solved by booting W10
and up to now it has not occured anymore.

The only info I can provide is that it happened a few hours after doing
updates.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2018-11-07 Thread Michael Morisette
This started happening for me within the last week or so. A recent
update may have triggered it?

I'm on a wired connection. The connection randomly drops within a half
hour of system startup. I can disconnect and reconnect and it seems to
fix it.

I dual-boot occasionally to Windows 7 (same machine), and it doesn't
appear to be an issue there.Definitely an Ubuntu specific bug

Have same RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller and

Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [1462:7b33]
Kernel driver in use: r8169
Kernel modules: r8169

See the difference in controller and driver?

I'm online for an hour since:

try connecting via wifi and
1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo apt-get install r8168-dkms
 - to install the r8168 kernel driver (suppressing the r8169 driver that came
default with the kernel)
3. Reboot the PC
4. Enroll the MOK

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2018-09-02 Thread VilijaR via ubuntu-bugs
I had (fingers crossed that I fixed it) this same thing with my brand
new Dell 3567 laptop that came with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

I noticed that the wifi (no wired connection in my home) behaved exactly
like the initial report... but only when my mother turned on her tablet,
other times it worked perfectly. However, once she connects her tablet,
my laptop every 5-10 min seemed to "forget" it was connected. Most of
the times the network manager showed the connected indicator but
Chromium was telling me that there's no internet, occasionally the issue
appeared as asking to re-sign in randomly.

After searching the internet, I found this rather cryptic sentence in a
HP laptop support site: "There are some compatibility issues when using
802.11g and 802.11n devices on the same WLAN". Mother's tablet is b/g,
my laptop b/g/n - the router was set to b/g/n mixed mode, with provider
restriction to 2.4GHz channels only. On a hunch I changed the router
setting to b/g mixed (I couldn't find how to temporary disable the
802.11n protocol in my laptop to check) and it's now been 3 days without
any interruption, so I assume at least in my case the bug had something
to do with that.

Since it seems that I can fix the issue via router settings, I assume I
can reenable the issue if data is needed.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2018-09-02 Thread spirit
I had the same problem on 17.04 with an ASUS USB-N13 wireless adapter. I
hoped upgrading the OS to 18.04 would solve it. I did that a few days
ago and the problem persists.

So I bought a network cable. But guess what: it also happens on the
wired Ethernet connection.

The problem is that the interfaces seem to somehow lose their IPs. This
only happens on my desktop, the laptop works fine. The desktop has dual
boot with a Win 10 installation, it also works fine under Win 10 (both
wired and wireless).

2018-08-16 Thread Sahand Vahidnia
I am also having a similar issue in Ubuntu 18.04.
This happens right after opening some tabs and streams. The network icon stays
there, but internet drops. Restarting the wifi doesn't solve the problem most
times.
The laptop is ASUS Vivobook S14.

I've also tried using a realtek wifi dongle, which solved the problem to a
point. However when I use that, it fails to connect to the wifi and takes about
3-5 minutes of constant connection attempts. So I gave up on that too.
I don't have this problem with my other laptops.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2018-03-29 Thread Daniel B
I am also having the same issue on my Thinkpad E460 under Ubuntu 17.10.
It started a couple of week ago and got really annoying. Sometimes the
connection is just gone for a few seconds up to 2 or 3 minutes and
sometimes it seems turning the WiFi module off and on again helps. The
same problem occurs via Ethernet too, but less frequently.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2018-01-18 Thread Ryan Lounsbury
I am also getting this in 17.10 on a Dell Optiplex 9020. It works fine
for about 20-30 minutes and then I can't ping the network and all
network connected jobs stop responding. It stays that way for 2-5
minutes and then it comes back up. Network status shows connected and
never indicates that the network connection itself stopped working. It
is driving me batty.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2017-06-10 Thread thinow
I have the same problem under Ubuntu 17.04. Wifi connection is dropped
randomly after a couple of minutes.

Having said that, it just happened again. An hour after my previous

2017-05-12 Thread RumtumTugger
Must say, since my post of April 24th, the problem has not reoccurred.
Settings still as mentioned above. So with these settings it was a one-
off incident.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2017-04-24 Thread RumtumTugger
Same problem here after a fresh install the day after the release date. This is
really annoying. I already changed the ipv4 method to Automatic (DHCP)
addresses only and added DNS servers 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, but the problem is still
there. Under 16.10 no such problem here.
I hope there will be a fix soon.

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2017-04-20 Thread Giampi Frello
I'm having the same problem since when I fresh installed Ubuntu (Budgie) 17.04.
I then reinstalled Ubuntu (Unity) 16.04 LTS and having the same problem, LIVE
versions included.

Interestingly this seems happening on my home router only, at work
(always wifi) it works with no issue.

Sorry, just now saw your comment, Po-Hsu Lin. I will try with 17.04
LiveCD when I have a spare moment. It's the beginning of the school year
here, so I have my hands full teaching at the moment.

2017-03-06 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello, as you mentioned that this can be reproduced with LiveCD, do you mind to
give 16.04.2 (which is using 4.8 kernel, or even test it with 17.04 daylive) a
try?
Thanks

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2017-03-02 Thread TylerKinkade
** Description changed:

Internet drops every 1-30 minutes when connected via wired or wireless
(i.e., this is a problem on both wired and wireless) even though
connection icon indicates the computer is still connected.

Disconnecting and reconnecting via the connection icon resets internet
  temporarily until the next time.

Dropped internet is discovered with "The site can't be reached" screens
in Chromium, or error messages when downloading/updating in Terminal, or
missing connection in Ubuntu Software app, or stalled syncing in Insync
  application (occurred even without Insync).

Internet drops more frequently on wireless than on wired.

It seems to disconnect more frequently with heavier internet use (e.g.,
downloading multiple files, opening several webpages in quick
  succession).

This is a fresh install (yesterday) of Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron
- 15 5567 (dual boot).
+ 15 5567 (dual boot). It occurs when running Live CD as well though.

Ethernet and wifi both work without randomly disconnecting in Windows 10
on the same machine, and ethernet and wifi work on other machines
running Ubuntu and Windows with the same router, so it is not a hardware
  or router issue.
