[Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
To confirm this isn't Bashtop at fault I installed XTerm. Bashtop displays perfectly there as well as in LxTerminal. The issue IMHO is that QTerminal isn't correctly handling monospaced fonts and of course Bashtop relies on correct handling of those for it all to line up correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901313 Title: Incorrect output when running bashtop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bashtop/+bug/1901313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Or cool-retro-term has the same problems as QTerminal ... [Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
The fact that is occurs in cool-retro-term implies it's not QTerminal to me (where bug was originally filed) https://packages.ubuntu.com/groovy/cool-retro-term shows deps for the groovy version (I tested using my now hirsute system) It occurs on the deb packaged cool-retro-term too, which is I suspect a clue; ie. something that is the same with cool-retro-term & Qterminal, but not in konsole as I couldn't replicate it there (focal or hersute) I booted a couple of other 18.04 systems and was UNABLE to re-create it, so I've now got doubts about my prior "seen it on 18.04" opinion (inc. testing on cool-retro-term on bionic where I could not re-create) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901313 Title: Incorrect output when running bashtop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bashtop/+bug/1901313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
I beg your pardon? Did I mention snap? Did I recommend QTerminal - no I didn't. I don't think you can say that bashtop is at fault here, as it's the new bow of the block (QTerminal) that display the output incorrectly, while established terminal windows work fine. [Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
For one, I think we should avoid the Snap, as the author of bashtop doesn't recommend it as an installation method. Furthermore, the author of the Snap is different. Secondly, the author does recommend Qterminal, at least as one with true color support. It also seems to be really particular about locales and fonts. Freemono should have excellent support for all of the required Unicode tables. There's some mention of need for "wide characters" with no real explanation of what, exactly, that means. That said, without clearly defined requirements, I think it's much more appropriate to blame bashtop itself here. Finally: the description of the problem is poor to say the very least. Linking elsewhere is not great, especially to somewhere that requires a log in to see screenshots. Even there, there's some argument as to what the problem is, or at least that's how I see it. That said, I'm setting this as incomplete, to boot. ** Package changed: qterminal (Ubuntu) => bashtop (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: bashtop (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901313 Title: Incorrect output when running bashtop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bashtop/+bug/1901313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
I changed fonts in QTerminal to use the same monospaced font as LxTerminal (I think). The output was still incorrect, but differently so. [Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
Booted a Ubuntu 20.04 LTS system (d755-5; one of 18.04 in comment #4) and logged in using Plasma (Lubuntu & LXQt is installed too) Installed bashtop (via PPA), and vertical bars are all lined up in konsole. Opening Qterminal though & vertical bars are ~wavy Installed bashtop using SNAP, and again vertical bars line up when run in konsole, yet are somewhat wavy on Qterminal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901313 Title: Incorrect output when running bashtop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qterminal/+bug/1901313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
I just noted a `bashtop` running on as my background using `cool-retro- term` (snap) exhibits this flaw cool-retro-term1.1.1 150latest/stable flscogna classic My system is now Lubuntu hirsute (development) though it's almost equivalent of a groovy system. I booted two (Lubuntu) 18.04 systems and didn't get the behavior (but they didn't have bashtop installed, so won't have been where I've seen it before on bionic). One was a 18.04.5 QA-test which had not been touched outside of first boot evaluation (as part of QA process). I'm of the opinion this is not a QTerminal issue, but possibly related to a font?? (or fonts? (cool-reto-term has nothing to do with QTerminal and it's using a ibm-3278 font) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901313 Title: Incorrect output when running bashtop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qterminal/+bug/1901313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
Hi Chris, Absolutely agreed, I don't think it's Ubuntu per se - strictly a QTerminal problem I think as LxTerminal displays correctly. [Bug 1901313] Re: Incorrect output when running bashtop
Just a comment, this is not limited to anything in Ubuntu, as I saw it last night using `bpytop` on Debian Bullseye/Sid (it occurs there with `bashtop` too) I also suspect it occurs in other shells too (not just QTerminal) as I've seen it on systems where I wasn't using LXQt (including 18.04) though wasn't recent enough for me to recall details sorry.
