On further inspection, this may actually be a problem with our compiz- fusion plugins packaging. According to this page http://wiki.compiz- fusion.org/Plugins/Mousepoll the mousepoll plugin is required for showmouse to work. However, mousepoll is not installed by either compiz- fusion-plugins-main or compiz-fusion-plugins-extra. Confirmed occurs as reported. This added a couple of new plugins, along with the missing 'Mouse position polling' plugin which is required for the Show Mouse plugin. It is now possible to enable the Show Mouse plugin in Compiz. However, unfortunately I have still not managed to initiate the plugin.
