One of the core stay at 100% Bad thing for me, i'm a graphic designer and inkscape works fine on Windows 7 ( dual boot Ubuntu 10.04 x64/ win 7 x64 ). I can confirm a similar behavior—several seconds of high cpu load at every start— in Debian Lenny (32bit) backporting version 0.47 from testing. Let it initialize and then go to Filters - Remove filters. This could be related to something I just saw in 0.47. Opened Inkscape, opened an image, opened the XML Editor and Undo History windows. Confirmed with 0.47 in Karmic also, This happens *for every instance of Inkscape I open* , For me its not 100% , Since i have a Dual Core , one core uses 100% , its an overall ~50% I timed the delay , Each time there is a delay of 10 secs for opening the window and The CPU usage stays at 50% [100% for 1 core] for ~25 secs even after the window is open. Other problem i face is , there is a delay in the response time when i have zoomed to 1000% [maybe it is not related just mentioning in case it is]. I get similair behaviour. with 0.46. It uses 100% cpu before it starts. And it takes about two minutes before it starts. This is the 0.46 version available from the standard ubuntu repo's, on jaunty jackalope. Finally got the 0.46 version through the package repository (it always takes a few days to get there it seems). I'm sorry, but Inkscape still does the same thing: wait (appears to hang) with 100% CPU (good thing there's two of them in this PC, eh?) for about 1.5 minutes (or so; I didn't time it) before showing the window and running normally. I've also tried it on my root account (which hadn't run inkscape before I think), but the same thing happens there. Ah well, take your time finding/fixing this bug.
