[Bug 200405] Re: Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions.
Warmask, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: hardy needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: intrepid ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200405 Title: Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions. I have attempted to install 8.10 Alpha6. Live CD would not completely load. The desktop attempts to load but hangs with the first gray window, that window stays blank. -- Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200405 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 200405] Re: Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions.
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200405 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 200405] Re: Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions.
Ok, I have made some progress on this situation. If I go into the b.i.o.s., there is a section for On-Chip ATA Devices and 4 options for On-Chip SATA Type: Native IDE RAID Legacy IDE AHCI Native IDE was on by default. If i change that to Legacy IDE I can boot to Hardy and it recognizes both of my SATA drives. I can install and do. Then when i restart during the b.i.o.s. load I get an error saying 4th Master Hard Disk Error. That is my Seagate drive. When I get to the GRUB screen, I can choose the newly installed Hardy, but it will not load. (I have Hardy loaded on the Seagate drive).
I tried installing from the alternate CD and it still does not recognize my SATA drives. dah66, can you please tell me what I would need to do to get my system to install HH from cd? I am a green Ubuntu user, so could you elaborate? Where and how do I add pci-nomsi and what does that mean, and where do I add it to menu.lst? [Bug 200405] Re: Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions.
I had the same issue hit my system when I used the updater to upgrade to HH. When I tried to reboot, it couldn't find the SATA drive. I had to add pci=nomsi to the boot parameters in order to get the system running. Then I had to add the same to the /boot/grub/menu.lst file. A flaw like this will scare off green Ubuntu users.
I just tried the distribution release. I was hoping this bug would be fixed by now, but it I am still getting the same problem with the 'Live' installation. I have tried the alternate CD but am having a problem with that too. After I select 'Install' it won't go any further than a blank screen. [Bug 200405] Re: Hardy A6: Not detecting SATA drives/partitions.
Hi Warmask, I'm also curious if you've tried installing from the Alternate CD installer and run into the same issue. This may not be a kernel bug but rather an issue with Ubiquity which is the Live CD installer. I'd like to try and narrow things down a bit.
